She just gazed at him with a nonchalant expression on her face. It was just a plain fact that his subtle or not so subtle threats and general crankiness had no effect on her. Too many Links with him had made her immune to it. “Uh huh. You know she’ll probably be mad at me too once she realizes all this is connected, right?” Relann leaned in. “So, what’s our self-defence mechanism here? I’m going to guess avoidance won’t work at all.”

He sighed, “Well we just won’t tell her will we. Solves that issue,” he said seriously and drank more coffee. “We don’t talk about it and comment on her hair? I don’t know, there’s a reason I don’t talk to my parents often. I never know what to say to them.”

There were lots of things that Relann knew and understood about Ryley that they simply didn’t speak about. After all, through Links they had seen parts of each others lives that they rarely spoke about with others. Only Jacen knew more than Ryley did about her. And if there was one topic they simply never discussed, it was his father. However, his reference to my parents made her tilt her head and gaze at her friend intently. “Do… you think she’ll be coming alone?” she asked carefully.
