River didn’t know what she was doing this. Well she knew why, the captain had requested it. But she didn’t see the point River knew what she was feeling. Anger, frustration and annoyance. She had done her duty once again and once again Star fleet had tried to shaft her. Sure she had won her trial and got a promotion but still the point and the principle stood. It was another time River found herself wondering why she was doing what she was. She could just accept the offers from the Klingons or the Romulans and actual maybe get somewhere. She knew she would certainly not be put on trail every time she tried to so her job. It hadn’t helped that she had barely enough time to morn her own loses and give them a proper burial.
River shook her head sighed trying to bury the thoughts. She just wanted to get this over with and get on with her job. Taking one more deep breath she reached out and pressed thew chime to the CNS’s office.

Cara got up from her desk and walked over to the door and opened. “Cap’n Styxx. Please come in.” Immediately to the left of the door was a desk. A variety of places to sit and low tables dotted the rest of the open area. The right wall was taken up with a wall to wall, floor to ceiling storage until. Books, various pieces of art, and nick knacks covered the shelves. “Help yerself te the replicator and have a seat.” O’Farrell grabbed a glass of tea off her desk and had a seat in one of the chairs.

River nodded and walked over the the replicator “Coffee, black, strong, sweet.” she Ordered taking her drink as it appeared. She walked over to the chair opposite the Cara sipped her coffee and took a seat. “Replicated stuff is never as good as the real thing. I have a proper coffee machine and beans in my office. That is until the captain finds out of course, then their won’t be any left” she said attempting humour but probably failing spectacularly.
Cara laughed. It was funny, but it was also quite true. “Don’a worry, yer secret is safe with me. Though I admit I’m glad I prefer tea ta coffee once I got here. One of these days the replicator is goin’ ta run out of rations cause of her coffee addiction.”
“I understand congratulations are in order. I always knew that under that tough exterior Mardusk was all gooie, Just took a good woman to uncover it” she said kindly.
Mar. Capt Styxx (Marine OIC)
“Thank you, Captain.” She was touched by the compliment because Styxx struck her as the type of person who never gave compliments just to do so. “I always knew the attitude that came with this red hair was goin’ ta be good for somethin’.” She laughed at herself.

River smiled ever so slightly “Still getting used to being a captain again.” she said wistfully. “Its been a long time. Another life, some would say” she added with a shrug. River didn’t say anything for a few seconds she seemed almost lost in thought, But she snapped out of it quickly.
Cara could only take an educated guess on what being captain again was really like for River. The woman had been through enough without all the political grandstanding that had gone as well. This newest ‘event’ wasn’t going to help with the healing. It should. It should show her she was a leader, that she had what it took to do the job, that she was seen and appreciated and valued. But then Perkins came along…
“Oh I moved Lily’s poster. To my office. It still hurts looking at it, but the pain is slowly being replaced with fondness. The same for my old family photo its on my desk now.” she said a she snapped out of her thoughts. Cara had helped river unpack the boxes and it had signified a turning point for River, it was still a long road ahead but for River it was start. Now that shea dh moved those items to the place she spent most of her time made another big step.

“I’m sure that was a difficult moment for you. Are you having any regrets about putting them in your office?” It would be normal to have doubts and regrets. Even sudden bouts of grief.
Lt. Mardusk, counselor
River shrugged “I don’t know if regret is the right word. I have moments when I go to look at, at in my quarters and realise its in my office. But then I go to my office see it and feel fond of its new place.” she said simply taking a sip of her coffee.
“It has created situation I didn’t see though. I get people coming in and out of my office as most office’s do. A lot of people ask about the poster, then I have to keep explaining who drew it, what happened and its tough on a good day. And down right near impossible and draining on a bad one. At least in my quarters few people saw it and the ones that did already knew the story.” she said sighing and taking another sip.
