As the Atlantis drifted in the quit of space, her outer shape not betraying the turmoil inside the ship. A crew who where being persecuted for doing their duties. On her seizors a Romulan scout ship appeared, normally a cause for concern but this time it was known to be coming. For the ship belonged to Ty’lin River’s Romulan lawyer.

Ty’lin looked like your average Romulan, sharp features slightly green tinted skin and shirt black hair. Her eyes where a shrewd and as cold as any Romulan and her face neutral. A mask honed and perfected of the years. The only thing that made her stand out was her outfit, black heels, black tights, a black pinstripe pencil skirt, black pinstripe suit jacket and a white blouse.

Her feet where up on a console her eyes scanning a padd as the auto pilot brought her closer to the Atlantis. Ty’lin had not bene supervised by River call, they Had kept in good contact with each other since her Acheron case, but what had surprised her was how serious River was in the call. The seriousness had caused Ty’lin to pause and as River told her what was happening she could see why River was so stern. Ty’lin could not believe it was happening again and worth such laughable charges

She had wondered to herself which idiot had put these together then she found out who had pressed the charges and she had rolled her eyes. Perkins, he was a thorn in the side of the federation. He was a self centred, shelf obsessed narcissist who thought all where lesser then him. But despite this Ty’lin was glad in a way she was facing him. She had beat him twice before each time in an embarrassing and brutal way. She was looking forward to a third win and scoring as the humans said a hattrick against him.

As she reread her notes and the charges, now that her laughter had died down, she remembered what her sister in the Tal shi’ar had said about Perkins, that he was of so little interest that he was the only flag officer in star fleet they didn’t bother to have a file on. She was bought form her thoughts by the sound of her com beeping.

After a few more moments she had safety landed in the Atlantis hanger. Grabbing her case she double checked she all she needed and head out of her ship. Once in the hanger her eyes landed on a person waiting for her. She smiled and walked over to River

“Captain Styxx, good to see you again.” she said professionally and calmly. Ty’lin would play the professional until River and her were in private. Paranoia was apart of her genes and it always paid to be careful.

River nodded “Mrs Ty’lin it good to see you again. But remember I was demoted to Lieutenant after Acheron” she said her tone friendly but professional as well.

“Well as far as myself and the Romulan empire are concerned you should still be a captain, if not higher in rank” she replied.

John was not sure if his presence was welcomed or needed however River was assigned to him via the Federation as a client. This did not mean he felt snubbed or upset River had chosen the famed Romulan lawyer to represent her. The charges were ludicrous but that did not mean they weren’t leveled or came with a heavy price tag if River was convicted. Neither he nor Ty’lin would let that happen but it was a stressful situation all around.

“Counselor Ty’lin,” John McDevitt approached the pair in the hanger extending his hand. “John McDevitt JAG officer. Your reputation proceeds you.”

“I was assigned to help with the defense of Lt. Styxx. She has already stated that she wants you as her lawyer and I have filled out both the T-39 and F-418 forms with Starfleet granting her request and making you her primary attorney of record. I did list myself as her secondary attorney of record. I hope this hasn’t overstepped a boundary but with the trial starting tomorrow, I did not want to be held up with any technicality. I have also taken the liberty to bring up the punishment associated with her charges.” John handed over the PaDD. He knew full well that Ty’lin had probably already filled out ten briefs for dismissal of all the charges however he just wanted to make sure the Romulan had everything she needed at the tip of her fingers. To make sure River knew what legalese the two of them would be using, John read out what was on the Padd as they walked.

“The dereliction of duty charge, since we are outside of wartime, only carries a maximum punishment of dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 1 year whereas the Negligent Homicide charges are the same but with a three-year confinement. The charges for Article 134 which is Straggling and the disloyalty statements means River faces a maximum possible punishment of three months confinement which may also include forfeiture of two-thirds of her pay per month for three months. They are not asking for non-concurrent sentences on this. It’s probably because they are banking on the more aggressive charges to pin prison time on River. On the charge for Article 134 Indecent Language it is always pleaded down to a bad-conduct discharge with the max penalty of forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for six months, except that they are stating there were children present under the age of 16. This increases confinement to two years. All in all they look to be aiming for dishonorable discharge of the lieutenant but would settle on three years confinement and no pay but we are not going to let that happen,” John looked over at Styxx. It was just instinct for him to try and reassure his clients whether he was representing them or referring them to someone else as in this case.
