Jen nodded. That was a really good thought. It might not be as quick but it would be safe. They could soup up the computing power in it physically but all the same, that would take time too and that was a trade off. “I agree. That is the best barrier we can have in using a separate computer system. If I might suggest the Longevity Runabouts would have more computing power than the Armadillos. It would take longer than using the main computer, but safer.”

Which was relative in this area of space with the risk of Darkness showing up.

While there was a ton of computing power in the shuttles and runabouts, they were not a starship computer. An accurate analogy was running a city off a train engine opposed to the power plant. The time factor would be to a factor of 100. So ten minutes would be more like 1000… 16 plus hours.

OOC: so we are definitely going with using a runabout to break the computer system.

Jen mused over the time that would be added to the mix here. How long would it take? Hours? A day? Maybe they’d get lucky and hit on something sooner than later. Either way it was a step ahead. In the meantime how might they mask themselves to not be in any line of scanning from the Darkness? “Captain, if we are going to be around longer we might want to get the Atlantis somewhere more out of view. Perhaps settle the ship at the pole where the geomagnetic effect may mask us while we work this through.”

Tapping her comm badge, Kelly ordered one of the Runabouts into position to create essentially a sandbox where they could access the Bunker’s computer but not use the Atlantis’ main frame. This hopefully would nulify any potential damage in the act. Once the Runabout was in position, Kelly ordered the download to start. Hopefully they would gain some answers about what happened to the Aliens and more importantly, find a way home in the process.

While they waited, watching the others doing tests and setting up, Jen said, “So what do we have? A potential wormhole effect caused by the Genesis project failure all those years ago that caused the destruction of a ship and affected this world, apparently for the worse. They themselves were playing with what here? The same thing? Is this to suggest that we take their resources and attempt to duplicate that state, generate a wormhole to get home? All the while under the threat of these Darkness ships?” He shrugged. “A regular day by the sounds of it.” He knew he likely had some facts off. Jen was not a scientist in the least. But throwing out such thoughts did help him to try to understand what were the facts.

The math was probably very complicated, but since they were planning on cheating off the computers in the room there should be a high probability of success in a short period of time. What was going to be hard to do/figure out was how they were going to get the genesis wave. While it seemed everything they needed aside from that was on the other side of that wall.

As Jen watched the others he felt rather like when he read about Kirk battling the Gorn and having to work through the building blocks to find the thing to defeat it. Did they have all those blocks here? Or was this a science field trip that will be good for the logs but of no practical benefit? He shifted restlessly. How extensive was this lab? Perhaps he should send some people through it to make sure they weren’t missing anything important. His thoughts were interrupted by ..

“Well hopefully but less drastically impacting like it was here,” Kelly confessed. “Maybe we can even do some good here by figuring out a way to communicate with the Darkness so the people here can broker some treaty with it.” Kelly had no idea if this was possible or not. She hoped that it could be accomplished before they left.

“That would be a step ahead,” Jen said. His opinion was mixed. That was optimistic but did the bully on the block want to talk?

An interesting idea especially considering if the theory was correct. The Federation/Khan have some responsibility for the hyper evolution of the Darkness race and the death of billions of sentient individuals on this side of the galaxy.

Jen was dubious that the Darkness actually were interested in a treaty. However, that said, Starfleet was ever the optimists in things like this. “Do we really think that the beings here were progenitors of the Darkness?” They packed a pretty big punch for bugs. How did they even develop anti-proton technology? “Still why do they act out of utter chaos theory rather than doing something with their power? They seem to not want to claim territory, issue demands or have any sense of economic or social structure. They just are and what does that even mean? They aren’t just a soldier gone rogue or a rebel pirate pillaging the space lanes but a society that simply destroys. That is not possible without a reason. Even an animal has reason for what they do.”

OOC: Wow, if you knew what you just said, you’d lose your mind how close you were to the secret plot.

Looking at Tenzig and the rest of the team, she asked any of them, “so how are we coming with the hack of the bunker?”

The controls for the items on the other side of the wall were connected to the computer they were in the process of hacking.
