Three of Five stepped up to the door of the Captain’s office. He was sent off ship to train for an engineering Starfleet exercise. He felt he was chosen because he was the lowest ranked engineer on the ship and could be the one officer the ship could spare and not miss, but chose to believe it was because he had cool ex-borg implants. He waited for the Captain to respond to the door’s chime of his arrival, hushingly giggling at his thoughts.
Three of Five, Engineering

“You look like someone thinking of secretly formulating the Captain’s tea to tasting like Tellarite beetle-juice,” Jen said. “I’ve had it. Once was enough.” his tone was neutral but humored. “Welcome back by the way. How did the exercise go?” He paused and had a look at the ex-borg. It was an astonishing thing how quickly one could go from an enemy to a part of Starfleet. He had even heard of a Cardassian on Titan some years past. Given Jen’s marine career and combat experience with the Dominion and their Cardassian allies, he had mixed feelings on that yet.

“Some may ask for a report on that exercise. I think that a briefing with the engineering staff, at least the officers, on what you learned may reinforce those skills and perhaps bring in some positive changes. What do you think of that, Ensign?”

“It went well. I learned a lot over the span of the course.” He responded to the XO. “Of course, Sir. I would be delighted to share the details of what they taught us to the Engineering team.” Three of Five continued answering the XO’s second question, still slightly taken back he was in the captain’s office.

OOC: Well, still outside the CO’s office but still ..

Jen couldn’t recall the details of his absence. “How long was the course? Where was it?” Jen’s antennae shifted in thought as he sorted between the types of courses possible between a presentation to a seminar lasting a couple days to a week or more long course. Three of Five’s answer would determine what kind of presentation he would suggest making and how much detail to put into it. Jen had done considerable ‘military briefings’ on various subjects, run classes on anything from basic tactics to care and feeding of one’s phaser rifle and learned one thing that was important - engagement.
