Gravel laughed. “You are being sarcastic, but I know for a fact you got lost in Sickbay. You couldn’t find the door out of the room for almost a minute! And it’s a circle!” he said loudly as he climbed out and dried off.

“Gravel Mardusk that is a vicious rumor and I am surprised ya are repeatin’ it! I was no lost, I was pacing while I was thinkin’.” Did she manage to say that with a straight face? Yes she did.

He walked into the bedroom and climbed into bed next to her, putting an arm under her neck and shoulders like a firm pillow and pulling her close. “Thanks for the massage, doll. When we get up, you get one.”

Cara rolled to her side, pulling up a light blanket, and kissed his shoulder before laying her head back on his arm. Her hand and arm rested on his chest. “Yer welcome. Ya know I’d do anythin’ for you. Now go ta sleep ‘fore that gives ya ideas.” She chuckled softly, finger tracing soft pattern on his chest until they both fell asleep.

When they woke the next morning, Gravel was sore. But he rolled out of bed while giving Cara a playful snack on some exposed flesh and he said “Wake up, lazy. You have patients and I have a date with the investigator.” and he went into the bathroom and shut the door. A few minutes later he emerged and went to the closet and began getting dressed.

“Ah!” Cara rolled away from him and his michevious hands. Not that he couldn’t reach her with no effort at all. “Hey I thought you said I was gettin’ a massage.” She called after him, chuckling. She stood, pulling the sheet and blanket back to rights on the massive bed. She grabbed her shirt and skirt, and her discarded towel. “Yep clothes get moved taday,” she grinned at him as she passed by him to the bathroom. She was going to have to get dressed, just to go next door to get dressed. Cara looked at herself in the mirror, “And a hairbrush is second!” She came out, dressed in her shirt and skirt. She reached up on her toes, still having to tug him down to her and kissed him. “10 minutes, I’ll be back.”

Cara left and entered her quarters. She hadn’t turned the wrong direction in months. But she blamed those incidents solely on Gravel’s shoulders and his causing her lack of sleep.

Cara actually still had an empty tote in her room and as she pulled clothes out to get dressed, the rest got dumped into the tote. It wasn’t the neatest packing job, but it would do for now. Her hair took the longest…Twister and her hair did not go together. She finally managed to tame it into a frazzled braid. 10 minutes after she left Cara stepped back through the door of his quarters. “I need tea. Do ya want coffee or anythin’?”

Mardusk shook his head. “Naw, I’m okay. And you get a massage tonight. Promise. And now-” he said as he looked at the chronometer, “-I gotta go. I’ll. All ya when I’m done with the investigator.” He bent down and kissed her, grabbed a handful of wholly inappropriateness, chuckled, and then moved to the door. “Love ya. Wish me luck.” he said as he stepped into the passageway.

Mardusk

Cara kissed him and hugged him tightly. “Ya don’t need it, yer my favorite shade of green. That’s already lucky. Besides ya did right and ya know it, so does everyone else on the ship.” She kissed him again. “Ya’ll be fine. I love ya, Gravel. I’ll be in my office when yer done.”

She let him go, grabbed a cup of darjeeling sungma summer tea. Then she left, turning left to the lift and deck 11 and her office. The morning was blocked off for all of them and a group session with the 15 children and their parents. Cara had to back track because she’d turned left instead of right off the lift. That’s what she got for being distracted.

It was late when he got back, close to 2300 ship time. The reason was not unknown, either. A steady stream of people had raced to the Counseling Suites to try and tell Cara the investigator was after Mardusk’s hide. Asking leading questions and trying to get them to say Mardusk’s actions were out of line… or worse, criminal. Which of course none of them did. According to the last person, Mardusk’s day culminated with a conference call between the investigator, Mardusk, two Admirals, and some Klingon who was screaming at all of them. But… Mardusk had been cleared (they thought), and the investigator was gone.

Waiting for word from Gravel and not the endless stream of informants was nerve wracking. Threats had been issued that ranged from putting laxative in his coffee instead of creamer to using the man for phaser practice to having the children line up outside the room and beg to see Cmdr Mardusk. None of them were from Cara, though a few made it to her good idea list. Cara even considered pulling the investigators psychological profile and screwing with him, but she didn’t. No matter how satisfying that might be it wouldn’t help Gravel. Royo had insisted on walking her back to her quarters, she put up with it until he point blank asked her how she could be so calm. The implication was clear and she lost her temper, ranting at him in the corridor for a full solid two minutes. Royo nodded and grinned, “Use that temper on the investigator. I wanna see him wet his pants.” Cara stepped into her quarters and turned back not amused at all. She held her palm up and open and blew. Royo would be covered in rainbow glitter for at least a week.

Cara had nothing else to do while she waited but move. By the time the door opened to let him in, Cara’s things were moved and put away. Cara was quite efficient when she was motivated.

The door slid open and an obviously exhausted Gravel stumbled in and fell face-first into the couch and groaned. “Second day ina row somebody was damn near killed on this ship.” he said, his voice muffled by the couch cushions.

Mardusk

Cara sat on the floor next to him. She kissed his cheek, her fingers stroked over his scalp and then down to rub his neck. Her other hand rested on his arm. “I love ya.”

O’Farrell

Face still buried in the cushion, the muffled voice said “Hope that holds up when I’m unemployed and destitute. Man, I hope your family is rich. I know how much you make and when I get fired we’re screwed.” He was silent a moment and then began shaking. His while body trembled… and then it was clear he was laughing.

Cara shook her head and quietly kissed his shoulder. “Of course it holds.” Crazy man. But she knew he was just decompressing, even as he began to laugh.

He finally sat up and leaned back, arms across the back of the couch, and he looked at the ceiling. “Oh, for f_<k’s sake, Car… I musta slept with his mom AND dad for him to come at me like that.” He shook his head and said “I honestly don’t know quite what happened. We were reviewing the vid footage and suddenly I was number one on his ‘Who can I ruin today?’ list. WOW, what an a$$hole.”

Mardusk

She got up and went to the cabinet and poured him a decent amount of whatever bottle her hand landed on. She brought it back and handed it to him as she sat. “Some people are over zealous about their jobs.” Given they were dealing with religious zealots that wasn’t a wise approach for the investigator to take. “Well he’s gone and yer here with me and no in the brig. So that is somethin’. So what do ya need? What do ya want? Wanna go down ta Mike’s and listen ta the music and drunk that really over powering beer of yers?”
