Jen reported back in. =^= Captain, the Orb confirms that 142.2 years ago three was an energy pulse with no identified power source that originated in the Bryast system. We are correlating uniform style and missing ships from that era. =^=

Trainor continued to listen to the conversation. He believed Hammond’s statement would add more questions to the mix, than answers though. “Why not take a little field trip to the system?” Tenzing asked, questioning the growing elephant in the room. The Ops Officer wasn’t trying to jump at the first sign of an adventure, but it beat trying to get answers out of this old man.

Ops“Excellent idea Trainor. Hammond…Rose…care to join us?” Kelly was going to make sure the people at the table knew she was now like a dog with a bone. She was not going to bring up the real reason they were here and if they did, Kelly could talk in circles like a counselor.

Rose made a face. “That system is off limits. The Darkness has smoked virtually every ship that’s gone anywhere near that sector in the past 10 years. Even at maximum speed I don’t think we could get in an out.” Rose looked about guilty.
“You might have a chance, it seems that your top speed is higher than theirs so at least you could run away. They’d run us down and blow us to bits.”
GM
“So go for a ride with us,” Kelly countered. “You can’t tell me you are not itching to get more intel on it. Besides, it would have to find us and we just lure away from systems and then reverse course. It is not like someone has a keep-out sign. It is just unincorporated space correct?”

Rose looked over at Hammond. Again even though they both carried the title/rank of commander it was clear that he outranked her in a significant manner. Their communication was non-verbal. “You’ll have to put your First Officer in command. We can’t have a battle cruiser doing nothing for however long the trip takes.”
He looked over at Kelly, “If you don’t mind Captain. Please take care of Rose. I need a living Commander, not a dead Explorer.”
Hammond
GM“This should be interesting,” Tenzing chuckled at Hammond’s response. Trainor was sure the man would try and find a way out of them venturing to the system, but instead, he sends Rose. The Ops Officer gave a slight nod towards Rose then turned to the Captain. “I’m sure we’ll be able to find comfortable quarters for our guest, though I can’t promise I’ve been able to clear the little goblins out of the replicator yet.” The Ops Manager stated with a smile.

Ops“I will return Rose safe and sound,” Kelly nodded. “I am sure Rose will be invaluable as a liaison and representative between your government and ours. Of course, anything we learn on our expedition will be given to you in the sense of fostering diplomacy. Commander Rose we will await the communication that you have squared away your ship and are prepared to come over to the Atlantis. If there is nothing else then my team and I will return to our ship and await departure instructions from Base Five. Hammond, Rose,” Kelly stood up and nodded her head at them in a slightly less formal version of a handshake goodbye.

“If the other races learn that you have taken a representative of the Endorian’s aboard your vessel, they might think you have made an alliance with us. Add the fact of the the numerous technological advances.” He tilted his head, “it isn’t a problem for us, but it might affect your negotiations with them in the future. I just want you to know what you are getting yourselves in to..”
“Well, the best way for everyone to know we are looking for friendly and open contact with this sector of space is making friends with one person at a time. I think we will be fine.”’
“I have forwarded our maps of the area, but the system was never well explored. There are a few planets there but none can hold life as we know it and whole system’s it’s mineral resources were fairly low.”

GMJen, after some time replied . =^= Jen to the Captain. Best guess on the ship is that this may have been the USS Okudo, destroyed by an unknown ribbon of energy according to her data recorder. However that is speculation. I’m sure a Vulcan would balk at making such guesses. =^=
- Jen, XO=/\=Understood. We are headed back to the Atlantis. We are bringing a guest with us from the Base. Please see that we have the diplomatic suites ready. We also have the coordinates of the location where the jacket was found. Inform the crew that after we get the proper clearance for departure we will be on our way there. Bordeaux out.=/\=
=^= Acknowledged, Captain =^= Jen said.

“OOhh, diplomatic suites, sounds fancy.” Rose added. “”I’m sure I be able to have some ‘state dinners’ during our trip.” It was going to be at least a week even at the Atlantis’ higher warp.
Kelly looked at Cara and gave her a small nod. She was a brilliant counselor and would be the perfect liaison for Rose on the ship. While it was not exactly in her job specifications, dealing with other cultures was and she was damn good at her job. “Commander Rose, Commander Hammond,” she nodded at both men. “If you would not mind granting us permission for departure to prepare for the mission it would be appreciated.” Kelly stood up and extended her hand.

“Of course.” His voice had a rich tenor now that he nasty business of restitution had been finished. “Leaving the base is much easier than getting permission to board.”
Cara returned the nod simply to say she noticed. She assumed the captain wanted her to ‘handle’ Cmdr Rose. But Cara didn’t know the Cap well and ‘assuming’ was dangerous. She hoped the CO planned to pay her fine quickly. Hammond didn’t strike Cara as a person that would tolerate the untrustworthy and deceitful. Overall the meeting didn’t tell Cara anything that was unexpected.

Tenzing was about to say something about the energy ribbon but decided against it. He wasn’t sure that these people would care to hear about the Nexus, and may find it close to a fairytale. The Ops Officer looked at everyone in attendance, hoping they’d start the beaming up process. The Lt Commander had some business to take care of ship side, that could probably have been done before they left, but having a teenage mind sort of throws maturity out the window sometimes.
