Main Engineering - Ensign Ronar's Check-In

Posted by Lieutenant Commander Ethan Nash (Chief Engineer) in Main Engineering - Ensign Ronar’s Check-In
Dropping his tool belt in the middle of his desk and rubbing his hands over his face, Nash yawned and looked at the daily schedule that was showing on the screen of his workstation in his office in Main Engineering. Next up, a check-in with his new Engineer, a Bajoran who had arrived recently.

Nash grunted as he removed the stub of the cigar from the pocket of his tunic and stuck it between his teeth, then moved to the replicator. “Coffee, double shot, no sugar,” and once the drink had appeared in front of him, picked it up and sat in the large comfortable looking chair behind his desk. Hopefully, this Bajoran wasn’t as much trouble as the one that was already on the ship. The Intelligence Officer Devon Rand was a good Officer but a pain in his rear end.

Hitting the button on his desk that opened the doors to his Office, Nash looked out and watched the goings on in his Engineering department a moment while he waited for the new Engineer to arrive, then sat back and nursed the coffee in one hand, the cigar stub in the other.

Lt Cmdr Nash, CE

Ronar stood in awe at the threshold of Main Engineering, stunned by the sheer impressiveness of the ship’s systems. He’d never imagined he would ever be able to work on such a state-of-the-art ship, especially one with such spectacular systems. The room was very large, people bustling about in a hurry, not pausing to take a second glance at him. It was his kind of a place.

The buzz of conversation eventually brought him back down from Cloud 9 and into reality but he couldn’t help but shoot glances at the systems as he wandered about, trying to find some help.

“Excuse me,” Ronar asked an engineer who was hurrying past, her arms laden with PADDs, “Where’s Lt. Commander Nash’s office?”

The woman directed him towards the other side of the warp core where he saw an open door that seemed to taunt him closer. Inside, he spotted a large figure– presumably the Chief.

He thanked her and started towards the room, his apprehension growing with each step. He’d always balked at visiting his engineering professors at the Academy. Eventually, he’d realized that his nerves stemmed from a fear of disappointing them though that revelation never really brought him any comfort. He sped up his pace to a brisk walk after a minute of slowly inching across the carpet in which he’d realized the Chief could see him and was probably wondering what the hell he was doing.

Quickly, he reached the entrance to the room and stood at attention.
“Ensign Ronar, reporting for duty, sir!”

-Ens. Ronar
