Relann shifted the bag on her shoulders. It was a simple cloth affair with some objects inside of an indeterminate shape- at least from a distance. Cradled in one hand was a small stack of PADDs on the off chance that they actually did the performance reviews they needed to. And in any case it maintained that pretence long enough for her to move through the corridors.Arriving at Kelly’s she adjusted the sleeveless ice blue tunic that revealed the white stripes on her brown arms. opting for something other than her usual linen dresses, the tunic was layered over slim fitting navy trousers made with a thick stretchy material. Making sure she didn’t drop anything, Relann freed one hand to tap the chime, hoping she wasn’t too early.

“Coming,” Kelly said walking to the door. Normally she would just yell come in or enter but tonight she actually wanted to greet the person behind the door.
Ten minutes ago Kelly had kicked Ian out of their quarters with the bogus excuse of having to confer with the XO over sensitive material he was not classified to view. Kelly could barely hold back the grin remembering how Ian leaned against the wall, looked at her like with one eye brow raised and said “really cause I sign your name better than you now.”
After a bit of sweet talking and promises to make up the hours he would spend like a homeless man wandering the halls until Kelly comes he could return Ian left wearing his hallmark grin.
Opening the door Kelly held a five pound chocolate bar in one hand and a huge bag of chips in the other. Her smile faded a hint looking at Relann. “You look fabulous. I said fat pants,” Kelly laughed gesturing to her large flannel pj pants and a sweatshirt that has to be Ian’s. “Girl we are going shopping next,” Kelly laughed gesturing the woman in the room.
Captain Kelly Shultz.
Relann gave a lopsided grin. “Well, you know me, even after all these years there are still a lot of Human concepts I’m still not accustomed to. I’m sure you’ll show me the way,” she said as she moved into Kelly’s quarters.
Once the door closed she moved over to the dining table and set down the padds with a glance over her shoulder. I approve of the food choices.” Relann reached into her bag and pulled out two bottles of wine, setting them on the table. “A merlot and sauv blanc from Napa Valley, care of my parents.” She grinned. “It’s good to have connections and people who live close to wine country. “

“I loved Napa. I went there once,” Kelly let out a half laugh. “I was young…in my twenties. Ric took me for a weekend getaway. He paid for one of those expensive wine tastings. You know where they take you in the back room with your own personal wine expert,” Kelly said taking a seat at the table and picking up a bottle of wine. Looking at it so many memories flooded her. All of them happy making her smile. She held up the bottle in a gesture asking if is was okay to open it.
Relann nodded and gestured for her to go ahead.
“Any way I had drank a lot by then. A lot,” Kelly’s eyes widened as if to drive home the point. “So they take us to this seating area with huge plush chairs and fireplace. The expert begins to talk about the nuttiness and fruit-like flavors infused in the vintage. I am nodding like I am getting every word. My eyes were also so freaking heavy that I couldn’t keep them open. Two hours later I wake up to Rick and the expert drunker than skunks watching the football game. Fun times,” Kelly laughed pulling the cork from the bottle.
Relann chuckled. “I’ve done a nice tasting once as part of a graduation trip I did with Jerome and Anita. It might have been lost on me then though, as I wasn’t much of of a drinker. Mine certainly didn’t end like yours, and well, my Human father is a mostly retired “
“Which vineyard was your favorite” Kelly asked pouring a glass.
Captain Kelly Shultz
“Rutherford Hill,” Relann replied with a deep smile as she accepted a glass. “It’s sort of become a tradition that when I’m visiting, that we go up there. Anita brings an incredible picnic and after sampling some wines we sit up on the hill with out lunch and enjoy the incredible views. We did that quite a bit when I was at the Academy, even though they lived so close in Martinez. The landscape reminds me quite a bit of my childhood home, though it’s a bit more dry, and I grew up right by the water.”
