Two weeks Cara had been onboard. She could now make it with minimal error from her quarters to her office, from her office to primary sickbay, and from her office to the bridge without getting lost. As long as she went the same way every time, and that simply would not do. So armed with a list of places that she felt, duty wise, she needed to know how to get there, and Gravel’s explanation of how the sections fit together and were identified and labelled she left her quarters. She turned left, instead of right, away from Gravel’s quarters and the lift she usually used, and got herself well and truly turned on deck 4 then found the nearest lift and took it to Deck 11. She stepped off the lift, out of the way and looked around. Her offices were on the curve of the outside hull port side. Now she just had to figure out if she was facing the bow or aft of the ship. Oh and if she had taken an interior or exterior lift. She looked around to get her bearings, she was at the NCO quarters. Guest Quarters were right before her office, she knew that much, she passed them everyday. She turned right and began to walk, taking note of what she passed, and making a full circuit of the circular corridor she had stepped out on and no office. So an interior corridor, which she had surmised with the way the connecting corridors angled out, but Cara never took that for granted. She began walking again, this time taking the first connecting corridor…
Noticed by a security officer on patrol who began to follow her, Cara sighed. Lost she might be, oblivious she was not. She stopped and turned, “I’m no lost Crewman. I’m just takin’ a walk.”
O’Farrell, CNS
“Of course, Lieutenant. I was just wondering if you needed any… uh… assistance… on making your walk… um… more… uh… destination-centric, is all.” the Security officer stammered.
Security NE
Cara turned a dazzling smile on him. “I have no destination in mind, Lad. Yer so sweet ta offer, though. I’m just explorin’. Atlantis is big, and I thought I might spend the day seeing it all.” And then Cara, still planning to find her office continued on her way. She laughed silently to herself. Let him chew on that for awhile. After a few minutes she encountered a dead end. The opposite side of the back wall of the counseling suite, or that’s what she thought it was. She turned down another of those connecting corridors to go around, but at some point turned the wrong way and ended back near the NCO quarters. Well at least she found the turbolift again.
O’Farrell, CNS
Or a turbolift. This one was currently not in service, as the large ‘Out Of Service’ holo stated.
Navigation Is Not Your Friend
Cara glared at the holo sign. That was not there before. Now it was possible that it had just been put up, but she doubted it. Cara refused to sigh or get frustrated, she just continued in the direction she was going....OH! The section color just changed from orange to yellow. So she was…at the fore of the ship tracking the starboard side. So if kept heading in the same direction, eventually she’d make it aft and cross to port. yeah that was great, if she could just get that information to match with muddled map in her head she’d be fine. There were no view ports so she knew she was on the inner corridor.
She turned down what she thought was a connecting corridor and through an door way and into....sensor pallet access....Okay so she wasn’t anywhere she shouldn’t be, but this was not where she wanted to be. She turned around back tracking the way she had come and somehow moved from yellow back to orange. Now she really wasn’t sure how she had done that because she’d gone back down the same corridor she’d come from and there were no options to turn left or right. She paused and looked around and it suddenly made sense, she was right at the switch over of sections. Seeing the yellow she started that way again and waited till she made it to green before trying another connecting corridor again.
O’Farrell (It’s been two hours already)
Thunder rolled off in the distance… except it was a voice. =/\= Security Chief to Counselor. I have a case I’d like your input on. Could you please be in my office in five minutes, Lieutenant? Thank you. =/\=
Mardusk, CoS
Awww crap… At first Cara thought he had snuck up behind her. The sound of his voice sent a thrill through her. And then frustration because either the Sec JO told on her, or he was watching her and knew she was lost. So much for trying to learn her way around. Before answering Cara resigned herself to it and put a hand to the LCARS panel. “Show me the way ta the nearest turbolift.” The roaving dots began and she followed. Cara’s Irish lilt came back over the com, =^=On my way, Cmdr. More like 15 minutes.=^=
=/\= I figured as much. See you then. =/\= came the reply.
The dots stopped, she hadn’t been far from the lift, and Cara pressed the button to call the lift. Once it arrives she stepped on. She’d only been to the security office once, but she did know what deck it was on. “Deck 14.” And the lift started its 3 deck decent.
O’Farrell, CNS
The doors opened and a Security JO was standing there. He smiled at the Counselor and said “Hello, Lieutenant. Second passage on the right, first door on the left. Have a good day!” and he stepped past her and into the lift and disappeared when the doors closed.
