USS Atlantis

Lost City of Atlantis or Saoghal eile

(snip)

Cara’s pale skin flushed hotly…”Yeah that was me.” Grant had been…fun for awhile. But what he was good at didn’t make up for the rest of him that was a HUGE pretentious jerk. “Yeah I’m no allowed back there, ever. I was banned.” The fall out had been epic in scope. She was sure there was still security footage of the incident. Of course the topic of the argument didn’t make the recordings, they were past that point by the time they reached the bar. “He was warned. If the devil comes to attention then you better as well. And he was far too pretentious to run a punk bar. I hope that means he’s figured himself out then.” She grinned and then stabbed the last piece of steak before he took it. She pointed the beef laden fork at him, “But I didna stab him, thought about it, but I didn’t. Alright then, Mr Stealthy, other than stealin’ a lass’s food what do you do?”

Gravel smiled at her and said “Oh, I don’t think you are banned. Just go in with me. I’m sure ‘ol GRant won’t have an issue.” and he winked. “And yeah, he was too pretentious to run a punk bar… but he is hella smart. Good business sense. And yeah, I think he figured himself out. He’s got the bar running really well and a nice little girlfriend. Andorian girl. Plays mean drums.” He took a bite of vegetables and chewed and swallowed and then said “So… other than keeping the wolves out and stealing food from beautiful women… I play the bass guitar. I collect music. Punk, mostly. But I have a pretty good classics selection. Other than that? Hell… I work too much. I usually try and give extra time off to the folks in Security with family. And I like to drink. Not getting drunk, but the time spent on a stool in a genuinely good bar? Now that is almost without equal. What about you? Anything that doesn’t involve glue and glitter?”

Cara stole more of the mash with a grin, then leaned back and thought about it. “My da’s an archeologist, used ta take me to all the ruins of Earth’s ancient civilizations. I loved piecing together how they lived and why. Bit of a nerd that way. I always thought I’d go see things like that from other civilizations but me wanderin’ around alone in strange places ain’t a good idea.” She chuckled. “Music, live music. That probably comes from my mum. She’s a concert flutist. Hard Rock, Punk, classics, but I love classical too. Reminds me of her. I donna play anythin’, never had the desire, but I love ta listen. As for the bar, well that took me a long time to learn. Back in Ireland we’re still stuck thinkin’ we’re in the midst of ‘The Troubles’ of the 20th century and that the only way out is ta get drunk. ‘Specially the teenagers. Never wanted to be like that. Took me awhile ta learn there was a difference between a drink, drinking, and gettin’ drunk. I love ta swim, went every day I could, warm or cold weather. Donna get a lot of that in space though.” She eyed him, “That’s good of ya to give them the extra time, but as ship’s counselor I have ta insist you take a break some time. Ya might be a big strappin’ lad but ya gotta relax sometime.”

Mardusk’s expression changed slightly, becoming somewhat more… curious.... and maybe a little mischievous. “Well… I haven’t really had any good reason to take many ‘breaks’. Think you might have an idea on how to change that?” he asked and smiled.

Cara nodded slowly. “Oh yeah, one really big reason ta take a break comes ta mind in the form of a homicidal ex-girlfriend. As for how ta neutralize that reason…maybe you need a body guard ta make sure you stay outta her cross hairs, or,” and a wicked grin appeared on her face, “one willing ta draw her ire. But that’s a temporary solution ta working ta much. See what it really boils down ta, is finding out what you think is worth taking a break for. Your current interests and hobbies aren’t enough. Keepin the wolves away is work. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that music ain’t enough because ya ain’t taken enough breaks just for that. But ya like playin’ guitar maybe ya need a band ta play with. That brings us to drinkin’ in a genuinely good bar. That might be lost to ya now, unless you wanna go the body guard route.” Cara slid the plate to the center of the table and leaned forward, one forearm resting on the edge, “So that brings us back ta the issue of explorin’ what would peak your interest enough ta want ta take more breaks.”
