“And here we are on our final stop… and also where we will eat. Replicators are there…” and he pointed, “… and fresh food is there. If you want to tell me what you want, I’ll fetch and bring it over. You can grab us that table by the window.” he suggested.Mardusk
Cara looked over at the fresh food options. The meds were working so, “Thank you, Gravel, anythin’ fresh, as long as there’s no fish. I’m allergic.” She moved over towards the table and put her back towards the windows. Sitting still or at impulse she could stare at the stars all day long, but the weird streaks that seemed to never move and stay stationary while she could feel the ship moving gave her vertigo and made her sick to her stomach without the meds. Hopefully in a few days it wouldn’t matter, but she didn’t feel like pushing her luck.

Gravel nodded and came back a few minutes later with bangers and mash, sautéed mushrooms, steamed vegetables, peas, corn, marinated beef kabobs. “Didnt know exactly, so I hot an assortment. Now… what would you like to drink?” he asked.
Mardusk
“I don’t suppose they have Guinness?” Cara laughed, “Joking, maybe another time. Strawberry lemonade.” The food smelled amazing and despite earlier she was suddenly hungry.
O’Farrell
“Guinness is at Mike’s, and its on tap. Strawberry lemonade, coming up.” and he walked away and came back a few moments later and set a tall glass in front of her. “There you go.” For himself he had a pitcher of what looked like blue milk. As he sat down, the chair gave a protesting groan and Mardusk glared at it, then looked at Cara and smiled. “So… tell me all about you.” and he stabbed a sausage, cut it in half, and ate the half in a single bite.
Mardusk
If Cara thought anything about the groaning chair it wasn’t apparent. She slid several of the beef tips off of a kabob stick, cut them in half and then stabbed one along with a mushroom. She thought while she ate, such a broad question and so many way to answer. “I grew up in near Dublin, Ireland. I like ta play cards, I used ta swim a lot. Donna come anywhere near my quarters when I’m crafting. You will get covered in glue and glitter through no fault of ya own. And I read, a lot, because then I can go on great adventures and not get lost.” It was said totally dead pan, but there was laughter in her eyes as she quickly speared the steamed vegetables and ate them to stop herself from laughing.
O’Farrell
Mardusk smiled and said “Oh, from what I’ve seen you could probably get lost in a PaDD or a book. MIght even take you hours to figure what order the pages go in.” and he laughed. He stabbed the other half of sausage and said “Why Star Fleet? Why be a Counselor? Why not a glue and glitter craftsman somewhere?” and he ate the sausage and took a drink from the pitcher, his eyes never leaving her.
Mardusk
She had picked up her glass to take a drink and paused and made a face at him and rolled her eyes. “My older sister joined Star Fleet. I visited her in San Francisco when she was a cadet and was taken in by all the shinny Star Fleet glitz. It all seemed incredibly exciting. So I joined when I graduated. As for counselin’, I was always really curious about why people do the things they do, and I like helping people find where they want ta go and watch ‘em get there.” She ate another piece of steak. “Ever heard the phrase ‘starvin’ artist’? Well I donna like starvin’ and no one, even when I’m long gone, is gonna buy my glue and glitter.” She laughs, “I do it cause it’s fun and messy and no serious. What about you? Why Star Fleet?”
O’Farrell
“My mom’s an Admiral.” he said flatly and then grinned. “And playing bass in a punk band may get you girls, but it doesn’t exactly lend itself to stability.” He laughed and shook his head. “Naw, but seriously… I grew up in Star Fleet. I watched the different species come in, saw the ships being built, all shiny and massive and new… and being scrapped after something happened and they were done for. I watched Star Fleet reunite families, save the sick, protect the weak… and I’ve seen them watch people die because the bureaucracy didn’t move fast enough… or their politics weren’t in line.” and he shook his head dismissively. “But I want to help people, ya know? Help them be happy, thrive, live their best lives. And sometimes for that to happen… people like them need people like me to be there to keep the wolves away.” and he grinned as he stabbed a bite of her steak and popped it in his mouth.
“And I’m really good at keeping wolves away.” and he smiled and chewed.
Mardusk
“Uh huh…what do ya do, lead ‘em around in circles, drop ‘em off blind folded and say find your way home?”
He leaned forward and looked at her seriously. “You see any wolves on this ship when we walked all of it?” he asked… then he winked and grinned and sat back.
She eyed him eating her steak. “Alright, so if this is gonna be a share off one plate kinda thing,” she grinned at him, obviously not bothered it as she stole a fork full of mash off his plate. “I gotta ask…how crazy is this ex-girlfriend? Like quirky and weird crazy, or I need a crazy and phaser proof vest kinda crazy? Donna bother me none I just like ta be prepared.” Then she reached over, stabbed a piece of sausage and winked at him.
O’Farrell
“Why you worried? Think she may think you and I are a thing and come after you?” and he laughed. “And as far as level of crazy… on a scale of one to ten she’s an exclamation mark. You follow music at all? Ever hear of a punk rock musician named Rachael Mathis? Everyone calls her ‘Bubbles’?”
Mardusk
Cara paused, put her fork down and leaned back in the chair, eyeing him. “So you’re the Orion ‘scumbag’. Oh yeah, I know who she is. Clinically speaking, we ain’t got a word ta describe her kinda crazy. Worried? Nah, she ain’t met a red head like me before. Worried for you? D@%^ straight. She’s tried and succeeded ta maim ya more than once. I also got ta worry ‘bout a skipper and security chief who would let that kinda crazy on a ‘family’ star ship. She’s the kinda crazy that would steal your uniform, add a blood pack ta it so when she shreds it with shears she can watch it bleed because it was touchin’ your skin and she wasn’t. Yeah professionally I’m concerned. So what did you do to piss off the last bar owner he’d hire her to take over knowin’ you were here?”
O’Farrell
Mardusk smiled and said “No, no. I’m the Orion ‘bastard’. ‘Scumbag’ is the one that she stabbed in the eye with the nail clippers when he tried to hijack her band’s ship. Now the bar owner? Mike? He’s my oldest friend. But he got married, so he needed someone to look out for the place. She’s a friend of his from when he was a musician of no small reputation. And she needed help. So… she needed a spot to get away from ‘scumbag’… because apparently getting your eye taken out with spa equipment means I love you to him or something and he’s tryin’ to find her so he can marry her… anyway… she’s here for the bar. I’m not sure she knows if I am on board or not. She will soon enough. Until then… you’d be amazed at how stealthy I can be when I wanna.” and he grinned and then was chewing another bite of her steak… but when he took it was anyone’s guess.
Mardusk
Cara chuckled, “Alright were to the point of it’s safe to use vulgarities then. Yes you’re the b@$^!@&%. Alright so now things are starting to make sense. Big Mike McKenzie. And it is one of his Mike’s Place then?” Cara grinned and then a light went off. “The large bar stool is for you then. My sister took me ta the one in New York when I visited her at the Academy. But the one in New Orleans, the view from the balconies above the bar were outstanding and ya could hear the music for BLOCKS. And before ya ask how I got to the balcony, I mighta made friends with da manager and he let me up there.” She took a sip of her drink and then after carefully setting it down began to laugh. “Oh my word I knew that was Revna Edman on those Vids going around. Knew that woman had a wild streak somewhere.” Cara laughed and shook her head and then eyed him, hard. “Alright tha’ was impressive, lad. Ya had ta take that one off the kabob. Amazed…I canna wait to not see that.”
O’Farrell
“You know Revna? Yeah… that was her. She and Big Mike just got married. And yeah, it really is one of his bars. And I happen to know Grant, the manager of the New Orleans bar. And if he let you up on the balcony, that means you are either one of Mike’s dear friends… which you’re not… or you and he were a touch more than friends.” and he laughed as his eyes went wide and he pointed at her. “NO! NO way! You’re the… the… oh how the hell did he say it… the ‘fire-haired Irish vixen that stole, cradled, and shattered his heart into a million unmendable pieces’?!” and he roared with laughter, drawing a few looks from the other Lounge patrons, but most just ignored it… it was Mardusk, after all.
“OH MY GODS THAT IS RICH!” and he laughed some more, then looked at her as he chewed some more of her food. Winking, he said “Good for you, hun. He was kind of a pretentious jerk till you came along and took him down a peg or ten.” and he chuckled.
Mardusk
Cara’s pale skin flushed hotly…”Yeah that was me.” Grant had been…fun for awhile. But what he was good at didn’t make up for the rest of him that was a HUGE pretentious jerk. “Yeah I’m no allowed back there, ever. I was banned.” The fall out had been epic in scope. She was sure there was still security footage of the incident. Of course the topic of the argument didn’t make the recordings, they were past that point by the time they reached the bar. “He was warned. If the devil comes to attention then you better as well. And he was far too pretentious to run a punk bar. I hope that means he’s figured himself out then.” She grinned and then stabbed the last piece of steak before he took it. She pointed the beef laden fork at him, “But I didna stab him, thought about it, but I didn’t. Alright then, Mr Stealthy, other than stealin’ a lass’s food what do you do?”
