Popping a second piece of ginger candy from her bag Cara turned into the small alcove where the turbolift access was. Of course she was on deck 29 instead of the shuttle bay on deck 4 where her quarters would be. The ship was massive. With any bit of luck the man in the shuttle bay was right and maybe this time she’d finally get used to traveling at warp speed. Until then, she would have to deal with it. She pressed the call button for the lift and stepped back waiting for it to arrive. When it did she waited for the two officers inside to step out and then stepped onto the lift, “Deck 4.”Lt O’Farrell
As the door slid closed, it wa suddenly stopped with a THUNK as a truly massive green hand and the cuff of a gold uniform suddenly appeared between it and the recess it was trying to slide into; with no luck at all. As the retracted… retreated?… from the barrier, the lift doorway now framed most of a gigantic figure. Over seven feet tall, their shoulders were as wide as the turbolift doorway. In fact, they turned sideways and ducked slightly in order for their hairless green head to clear it and get inside the lift; their sheer size moving Cara to the far side. The face on the head looked way down, and they smiled. In a voice more reminiscent of thunder, or maybe a rockslide, the figure said “Hey. How are ya? Sorry, these things get crowed when I get on.” and they looked at the wall and said “Deck 4.”
Mardusk, CoS
Cara swallowed in dread at the THUNK thinking it was the precursor to the ship doing some weird thing with the warp field. When there was no actual feeling of her stomach rebelling she sighed with relief and then noticed the hand. Someone wanting on the lift. She moved to the side out of politeness and then was moved to the side out of sheer necessity. Cara looked up and up and then up a little more. Whoa…the Sidhe were alive and well and here on the Atlantis. Who knew? “Ireland has 40 shades of green, Lad, and wouldn’t you luck out, you’re my favorite.”
Lt O’Farrell, CNS
The big green figure smiled and, looking at her hair briefly, said “And who woulda guessed red is my favorite color? I guess we both win today. We’ll make quite the pair at Christmas… won’t even have to dress up.” and he chuckled. He held out his hand and said “Mardusk, Security Chief. I’m guessing your the new Counselor, right? Lt. O’Farrell?”
Mardusk, CoS
“Oh that’s good, I hate trying to come up with costumes. Guess we lucked out again.” She took his hand, which dwarfed hers, but she didn’t seem to be phased by it. “I am, and I’m guessing that lady boarding the shuttle after me was the last counselor. What did ya’ll do to run her and the previous one off in less than 3 months? Call me Cara by the way. Nice to meet you, Mardusk?”
Lt O’Farrell, CNS
Mardusk chuckled. “First one married the guy that owns the dive bar here on the ship. Second was her twin sister, and she decided that a change of scenery was necessary and went to be closer to her twin sister. So.. third time gonna be the charm? And yeah, Mardusk. Gravel. Hey you. Any of those and few vulgar ones that I won’t mention to a lady without knowing them are what I answer to.” He then realized he hadn’t let go of her hand and let go as the doors opened. “Uh, yeah… after you. You know where your quarters are?”
Mardusk, CoS
Her eyes widened, “Oh trouble in paradise then? She didna wanna stay with him on board? Or did they both leave? And a twin? They tend to be closer than most siblings. Hope the fella is okay with that.” She paused, back tracking, “A dive bar? On a Federation ship? I will have to check that out.” She glanced at the PaDD, after he let go of her hand, sucking on the ginger candy for a moment, “4210,” she looked at the nearest corridor marker, “Nope, no idea. This ship is a bit massive.”
O’Farrell, CNS
Mardusk looked at her and said “Fate again… neighbor. Follow me.” He led her down the passageway and said “I’m in 4208, right next door. And yeah, its a big ship. But surprisingly easy to navigate once you get your bearings.” He stopped and turned in front of her and looked down at her. “This is you.” He jerked a thumb behind him. “Thats me, next door down. I’m coming off shift. If you want a tour or anything, feel free to come by. And if your luggage gets mixed up, maybe I can lend a hand.” He held his hand out to her and said “Nice to meet ya, Red.” and he grinned and winked.
Mardusk, CoS
Fate? Cara shook her head and followed the man down the corridor. “Well I may have to just go get lost and hope I find my way.” She actually had to lean to the side to see past him to the door he indicated as his. “A tour sounds great, ifin my stomach settles.” She eyed the gold uniform, there were other colors that went better with the India Green. “Enjoy your evening, Malachite.” Cara turned and palmed the door lock. The doors swished open, she stepped in, “Lights” and instead of her 3 moving crates, there were eight, five marked for ‘enlisted mess.’ “Bloody thick pup!”
O’Farrell, CNS
Mardusk leaned past and said “Yeah… Im guessing not yours?” and he chuckled. “Hang on. You call Ops and let ‘em know about their mixup. I’ll go get changed and come back. Gimme like, five minutes.” and he took the necessary few steps and was at his door and disappeared inside.
Her voice dripped annoyed sarcasm, at ops and not her neighbor, “Nope, Lad, it’s all mine. Ops said so.” She set her bag down inside the door and shook her head, “You don’t need ta do tha’…” And he was gone. Forget ops. =^=Lt O’Farrell to the enlisted mess.=^=
A confused voice responded. =^=This is petty officer K’rrril. What can I do for you Lt.?=^=
=^=Ops has left five crates in my quarters that belong ta you guys. From the stasis locks on ‘em I’m gonna guess it’s perishable. I’m on deck 4, 4210.=^=
=^=We were wondering what happened to the rest. You can set them outside if they aren’t too heavy, or not, and I’ll have someone up right away. Thanks, Lt.=^=
Not even five minutes later, there was a chime at Cara’s door.
Cara let go of the crate she was lugging towards the door and pressed the control to open the door. She didn’t think the pretty officer was there that fast, but who knew.
The door swished open to reveal the Orion. Without waiting for a word or asking, he walked in, hefted two of the crates off the floor and moved them into the passageway. He then came back and picked up the other three and took them out. He stacked all of them against the bulkhead and then tapped his comms. =/\= Security Chief to Operations. You have five crates in the passageway of Deck 4, section 9, zone Alpha. They’re an impediment to emergency evacuation and need to be moved right now. Security patrol will be by every ten minutes. If they aren’t gone in thirty, they’ll be confiscated and searched. Hope there’s nothing perishable in there. Mardusk out. =/\=
Mardusk, CoS
As he moved past her she laughed slightly, “Well come on in, then.” Cara watched him move multiple crates at a time and muttered something about ‘show offs’ under her breath. Something about the way he spoke told Cara he wasn’t one to suffer foolish antics and he was very good at using the rules work for him. She grinned.
The voice came back in spurts trying to interrupt the security chief. =^=Lt Chambers here. In a passage way?....realization of the location oh right amusement....I’ll see to it myself....Ummm No sir! I’ll come right now.=^= Destroyed consumables would not go over well.
A moment later two crewmen came around the corner with an antigrav sled, checked the labels and grabbed the crates. Seeing Cara in the door way, one of them, smiled politely but interestedly at her. “Thanks for letting us know Lt. You’re welcome to join us anytime you like.” Cara smiled politely, “That’s sweet of you lads. Thanks for comin’ and gettin’ these before they went bad.” And then she stepped back letting the door close. Ops was going to be very confused when the crates were ‘missing.’
“Well Security Chief Mardusk, Gravel, Malachite, Hey you, and few vulgar ones that you won’t mention to a lady can I at least offer you a drink to thank you for your help?” Cara made her way over towards the replicator, “Carbonated citrus soda with ginger, over ice.” A gold swirl and the glass appeared. She sipped a small amount letting it hit her stomach and settle before drinking more. She hated space sickness.
Lt. O’Farrell
Mardusk’s emerald eyes narrowed and he said “Space sickness? Yeah, it can be brutal. And a drink, sure. Pitcher of water, if you don’t mind.”
“Pitcher, no pour spout, cold water.” The replicator whirled to life and Cara grasped the handle of what now looked like a large mug instead of a pitcher and gave it to him. “Yeah, always get it at warp speeds.”
“So… how’d you handle space duty in the past? Just wait for it to go away? Medical can give you a hypo, ya know. Be done in seconds. Or are you one of those ‘doctors who are a terrible patient’ kind?” and he smiled and chuckled.
Mardusk
“If only it would go away. All my duty assignments have been stationary.” She eyed him for a moment. “Ya know, ‘nother lad in the shuttle bay told me the same thing. Doctors can do marvelous things these days. Never knew,” she grinned. “I try ta be a good patient. Ta date I’ve no had a doctor complain. Just haven’t made it ta Sickbay yet. See this nice strappin’ lad offered to show me my quarters so I didna get lost.” She tipped her head towards him slightly and then drank a large portion of her drink, her stomach, for the moment, not arguing with her.
