Runa walked over and sat back down next to him and kissed him softly, and then shook her head with a grin as she got up and finished getting dressed. “As much as I would love to play hooky with you, I can’t. School might start at 0800 for the older kids, but I have to be there at 0600 for all the little kids whose parents have to be on duty at 0700. And do you know what happens, Cmdr,” she poked him playfully in the chest, “when the teacher doesn’t show up? The whole ship stops functioning because parents can’t go to their posts because there is no one to watch their children. So as much as I would much rather stay here with you, the ship simply can’t function without me. But,” she kissed him again, “You can pick me up at 1630 or whenever you get off after that.” She slipped her shoes on and turned to look at him. “You going to walk me home?”
Runa

He sighed in dejection as Runa finished dressing.. He slid to the edge of the bed and began dressing himself.

“1630 should work just fine. I’ll let you know if I’ll be late.”

Finally, pulling his boots on, D’vash moved to the holodeck door beside Runa. “Of course, I’ll walk you, but,” he paused and grinned, “how do you explain to the kids AND parents that their teacher gets a personal escort from the ship’s chief of Intel. I mean, you could put it down to being the most important person on the ship, as you said.”

Runa grinned, “Oh, no worries, I’ve got that covered.” She didn’t say another word about it but her eyes danced. She had to stop by her quarters and change into something NOT ski gear: faded denim pants, deck shoes, and a slightly too big t-shirt covered in paint splatters. Her copper blonde hair was braided and then twisted up and pinned into a bun. She grinned as she came back out, “Arts and crafts today.”

Down the corridor and a couple of turns later Runa reached for the control to the door. “Ms Wuna!” and she was ‘tackled’ by a still very sleepy little boy, with a mop of black hair, about 3, clutching a tiny stuffed targ. “Good morning, Kavok,” she bent down and picked him up. “I sweepy.” She laughed softly and carried him inside. His father, a medical officer, glanced at D’Vash, “Good morning, Cmdr,” and then Runa. His wife had come home with some crazy rumor about Ms Edman being arrested and escorted off the ship. Obviously not the case, but it did beg the question why she was being escorted by the chief intel officer.

D’vash simply nodded in return and replied, “Doctor.”

Runa hid a grin, oh the rumors! “I bet you aren’t that sleepy. If I put you on a cot I bet you wake right up,” she spoke softly to Kavok, who suddenly seemed to notice the intimidating man who had walked up with his teacher. He straightened up where he was perched on her hip, “You aren’t taking Ms Wuna away are you?” It was all Runa could do not to laugh, Kavok was very serious, his father looked mortified, obviously Kavok had overhead his parents gossip the night before.

The CIO leaned in closer to the boy and whispered. “Of course not, young man. In fact I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that Ms. Runa stays aboard this ship as long as I can. I think she’s a wonderful teacher, and I’d hate to see her taken away from her students.”

“Do you remember what we’ve been learning about?” Kovak nodded, “Piwates!” Runa nodded, “That’s right. Well this guy over here, his name is Cmdr Odinson, and he knows all about catching pirates.” And just like that Kovak had shimmied to the floor and was now tugging on D’Vash’s hand leading him all around the room, showing off his drawing, and stick ships, and ‘P for Pirate’ letter pages. She grinned as Kovak pulled him past her. That was how you dealt with having an Intel escort.

D’vash followed the boy and winked as he passed Runa. “Those are some very fine drawings of pirate ships. In fact, can I tell you a secret?”

Kovak nodded his head so fast and hard it was at risk of rolling around the room. “I’m good a keeping secrets. Like Dekra hid Ms Runa’s favorite bouncy ball in the bottom of the blanket bin.” Runa covered her mouth with a hand and turned away. She’d found the ball days ago, but sometimes they needed their secrets. She spoke to Kovak’s father briefly and then was busy as more and more children arrived.

He knelt down beside the boy and said in a low voice, “My father was a pirate, and I was born on a pirate ship. That’s why, as Miss Runa said, I know a lot about pirates, at least Orion pirates.”

Kovak’s eyes went wide, “Whoa! Weally?!” He dropped his voice, “I’ll tell you a secwet, Ms Wuna said her family were piwates too. Called…umm..I forgot.” He twisted up his little face, “Bikings!”

D’vash lowered his head to stifle the laugh. “That’s right. Her family comes from a place on Earth called Scandinavia and hundreds of years ago, the Vikings were known as fierce warriors who weren’t afraid of anything. That’s why you must always listen to Miss Runa and do whatever she asks of you. Otherwise, she might go all berzerker rage on you guys, and well, I’ve never seen it happen, but I don’t want to be around when it does.” He raised his eyebrows in mock fear and looked over his shoulder in Runa’s direction. After turning back to the kids, he raised a finger to his lips to ‘shh’ the kids.

Several more children had arrived and Kovak excited to tell everyone had them dragged over, “Ms Wuna says he knows all about piwates! And he does too. He was born on a piwate ship! BUT oh SHHHHHH it’s a secwet!” An older girl, probably around five laughed, “Kovak, you don’t know what a secret is do you?”

Again, he looked down to hide his smirk.

From across the room Runa laughed. She walked over, and knelt down looking at each of them in the eye, “Alright, come on it’s time to let the Cmdr go to work.” There were protests and groans, “I know it’s so exciting, but he has important work to do, and you all have....breakfast.” It sounded like an explosion went off as the children all got up and ran for the tables. She laughed, stood up and handed him a PaDD, “Just in case you need to double check my credentials, Cmdr.” She grinned and winked at him before turning to the chaos that was breakfast.

(OOC: New Thread )

The CIO stood up and smiled at her.
“I don’t think that will me necessary, Ms. Edman. I believe you’re a highly qualified teacher. In fact, you were able to teach me a thing or two.”

He turned to the kids one last time and waved to them. “Perhaps if you’re all good, Miss Runa will invite me back sometimes and I can share some pirate stories with.”
