side-sim Sisters

“Revna, I don’t like it.” Runa huffed. She paced across the room getting an amused side-eye from her sister. She grabbed a throw blanket from the back of the chair and shaking it out set it over Revna.
Revna laughed, the blanket wasn’t even hers. Runa had brought it and insisted she needed it because she got cold. And she did with this horrible injury, but she just raised the environmental controls. Or maybe put on warmer socks or something. But the throw blanket always hanging about drove Revna crazy. Her sister thought it was ‘homey’ Revna thought it was messy.
“Have you HEARD the rumors about that man? It’s…it’s….” and Runa huffed again. “He’s NOT for you. I mean, tall-dark-brooding. I get it, the man has the look down, but really?”
Revna just blinked at her sister. How would she know or not? Okay so Revna would give her that if the rumors were true Runa had a point. But Runa hadn’t taken the time to talk to him or get to know him. And that irritated Revna. Not just because she liked him, but because she didn’t like people who jumped to conclusions. Hence the files she and the rest of the medical team on Centurion had. False reports and evaluations made to appease someone with political clout, or to make the brass look better, or to cover their own rears. Revna expected better of her sister.
“I mean I know you’re a counselor, and people talk to you, but the gossip. You don’t hear that. People don’t talk about gossip to counselors.” She glanced over at the amused and disbelieving snort that came from her sister’s direction. “I’m a civilian. People don’t worry about how I’m going to tell. I have nothing to gain by telling anyone the gossip. The man has a list of women that would rival Freyr’s. I don’t want you being on that list.”
Revna couldn’t laugh. She wanted to, Runa was being so….sisterly but if she laughed, she’d end up having trouble breathing. “So he likes to spend his time in female company. What’s wrong with that? You like spending your time in male company.”
Runa just looked at Revna like she’d grown 3 extra heads. “Well yes and that’s fine for me. But you deserve….more than that. That’s fine for HIM. But not you.” Runa was going to have a talk with this man. Her sister could barely breathe. He needed to keep his amorous intentions to someone else. Runa had no problem with the kind of relationships, or lack there of, the man engaged in. But Revna was OFF limits. That’s just how it was going to be. “Doesn’t he know you’re injured?!”
Revna sighed, she couldn’t yell either. Her voice snapped and her eyes flashed. Runa, gods love her, because sometimes Revna struggled to do so - sisters. “Yes, he DOES. And it doesn’t stop him from being my friend. You’d lock me in a tower guarded by the world serpent and all the tricks Loki could create. Knock it OFF, Runa. What’s your problem?”
“You aren’t a one night stand.” How could Revna not see what she was saying to her?
“Maybe I am and maybe I’m not. It’s been a long time since we’ve lived in close proximity. But that’s not the issue. You don’t even know him, you haven’t talked to him, and you are going off rumor and gossip. That’s beneath you.” Revna snapped and then sighed because it didn’t hold the steel it should to get through to her sister. “I’m physically injured Runa, I’m not stupid. I didn’t lose my capacity to think or make decisions. And using gossip to make character judgements….I’m ashamed of you and you should be ashamed of yourself. I’ve heard all the rumors. Yes I’m a counselor and people love to tell me about everything but themselves. So just drop it. Besides I know what your problem is.”
Runa turned around from the replicator and stared at Revna. “Oh you do do you? And what exactly is that?”
Runa Edman, Teacher
“You’re mad I found him first,” Revna said from her comfy seat on the couch as her sister, mouth gapping open, mouthed like a fish and then turned and walked out of her quarters. Revna grinned, she’d won that round.
