Ghubari peered at Nico and then nodded. “Right.” Without saying anything else for the moment, she moved over to the sofa and sat down, processing this very strange set of circumstances. At length she continued, “By any chance have people been helping you with this… training, or have you been finding things of use that perhaps were not your to begin with?” Oh, now she was amused, but she knew if Nico was getting around the ship too much she might need to put a stop to some of this. But she’d need more information first.

Nico paused, he was not certain he was in trouble, his person seemed amused, but that did not mean he might not be in trouble, she had laughed and punished him before. Nico considered the moment. Never once considered lying that was just not a thing he understood in the least. There was truth, and not saying a thing. Those were the options. Then again many telempathic societies were the same way. It was hard to lie when the information was shared mind to mind. As Nightskin pushed him to do, he signed, instead of sending her the story mentally.

“Shadowbrother tell I be good Sneaky Thieving Weasal, if I learn good me go to school near the gates of gold. Shadow brother teach me, but I teach me too. Learn good!” Nico signed excitedly. “I find things others forget, I trade for things I no have” Nico said about the items since she wanted to know. “I no take things people still want, just things forgot, dirty dusty forgot long time.” Which was easy enough to believe. Items left in a Jefferies tube might as well be gone to the sands of time for the likelihood of someone remembering where they left it. It did seem Nico had done a good bit of exploring. “I help shadowbrother chase down money cost when he sneak around ship. But we only find Sunrise Secret, and Moneycost hurt Sunrise Secret.” Nico looked sad for a moment, “I get better next time, I help better, and no one get hurted.”

Ghubari knew that Nico was a protective creature at his core. His priorities might not always match the ones of Starfleet. Since she came first no matter the situation, and he did not really understand diplomacy beyond trade and aggressive negoations.

She was momentarily perplexed as she went over what he had told her. Moneycost.... moneycost… ohhhh! Price. He was talking about Israel Price and Kallen Reese. As a flood of sadness swept through her also, she save a sad sort of smile to her companion and patted the sofa, inviting him over. She’d deal with the cat hair before she went back on duty.

“Sunset Secret, huh? I think that’s a wonderful name for her,” Ghubari told Nico. “I think Kallen would have enjoyed that very much.” It hurt, even now, to think of the woman for whom justice had slipped out of their grasp so unexpectedly. She wasn’t just another member of her crew who had died under her command, and even now she wasn’t sure.

“I don’t mind you doing this… training with Shadowbrother. I trust him to be careful. But remember that things can get dangerous quickly and while you can do many amazing things, you are not to put yourself in danger without one of us there and saying it’s okay. Do you understand, Nico?” she said somewhat sternly, more out of concern for the treecat. He didn’t always understand implications and didn’t have a way to really assess consequences at this point.

Nico nodded, “People are mean and hateful creatures as often as nice” Nico responded. “Me help but me stay safe, Shadow Brother think he trains me, and he does but he wishes he had a cub of his own, and it makes him smile to train me, even if he never plans to let me ue the training” Nico had understood from the beginning that that training was not for him but for Shadow Brother as well.
