: “No, Kaylee surprised me when she boarded the ship. We had just lost the Athena and were working through our grief over that mission. And As I was boarding the ship, there was Kaylee behind me. It was a genuine surprise to see an old face, and a welcome one after losing a quarter of my crew. Somehow it just felt…” Ghubari shook her head, not sure there was even a right word for that moment.

Orvos soaked in the captain’s reply thoughtfully. Truth be told, Orvos had a special connection with nearly most people he came in contact with, but he had heard of the Diplomatic Officer before even coming aboard. Orvos was certain of a few things about her, and if he was right, there was the potential she had never been introduced to the current holodeck program. Time. Time would remedy that.

They finally made it back to the village, albeit in wet clothes. He paused soaking in the folks heading home after a day’s worth of work. There were still plenty of people out and about, enjoying some of the evening events. But he couldn’t help but reminisce. “Can you believe it?” he said turning to his comrades with a grin. “This place is nearly an exact replica of my birthplace.” He added a laugh at how incredible it sounded. Then again, he wasn’t positive either of them knew his true age.

“It is remarkable,” Ghubari observed, knowing more than about him and less than one might suspect. “Do you miss it?” asked gently, imagining she knew the answer, but knowing it was probably far more complicated than Orvos could answer in a single reply.
