Cara finally arrived at sickbay 1 and it had been a bit of a walk through the ship to find it despite the fact she studied the schematics of Athena before hand. Cara couldn’t wait to get acquainted with her equipement and her fellow medical officers. She paused by the door a moment to tucked stray black hair back into her braid on her head and was trying to catch her breath before she met her CMO. When the doors slid open Cara took a deep breath as she held her bag over her arm. Her deep green eyes looked around in awe at the the bio-beds and the scanners and relaxed. This was what she knew and was familiar.
“Ensign Daniels reporting,” Cara announced to the first person she saw. Hopefully she would be directed what to do from here.Behind the desk sat a thin man holding a metal cup and humming a song. He was reading something on his desk Console. He looked up at the young Ensign in a slow, almost lazy manner and half smiled “Right, Daniels. Please sit” There was the slightest hint of a Scottish heritage could be heard but he was very well spoken. He looked directly in her eyes, answering green with green. He couldn’t be more than a few years older than her. “So, tell me about yerself” He leaned forward in his seat and started tapping leisurely with his left hand on the console, not releasing his cup from his right. He seemed extremely relaxed at the current moment.

Cara relaxed when she saw just how laid back her commanding officer was. The man clearly had learned bedside manner well. He looked like an experienced doctor, lanky with intelligent eyes. It made her feel as if she had finally come home. Cara took a seat with a shy smile. She noted the office took in all she could about her surroundings.
“I’ll tell you whatever you want to know,” She said with an easy grin as her foot tapped nervously. Though it wasn’t always so easy to tell others about herself but she knew she had to try.
“I graduated top of my class in medical with a specialization in human neurology and alien species physiology and neurology. I figured it would be useful since in space that is one our primary concerns is learning about new medical advances and how to help others out here as we explore,” Cara replied though she knew that wasn’t exactly what he meant. Cara leaned forward her grin growing and her eyes shining with determination.
“I grew up with a closed minded family on a colony who held their beliefs. So I am here to see what’s out there and prove them wrong.”Ensign Cara Daniels- Doctor
Benjamin nodded as he read through her file “Tell me about any experiences you have doing live medicine.” The office was clean. A single potted plant was in the corner behind Ben, there was a large discolored mark on the pot itself as if something had been spilled and not cleaned. the plant itself was young and seemed freshly planted, the pot seemed older than the plant. On his desk was a picture frame of him in his Cadet’s Uniform, standing next to him was another man of similar age, slightly taller and with blond hair also in his academy attire. Other than that it was simply a clean desk with a single computer and one PaDD. “Either through residencies or practical experience gained at the academy.” He took another sip from his cup.

Cara glanced at the picture and wondered if the young man next to him was still alive. She didn’t think now was the time to ask though and she looked back at Dr. Grey when he asked her about her experiences. She’d been expecting the question but it still threw her off guard a little. She bit her lip slightly and fidgeted with the end of her braid.
“During residency I volunteered to help at the refugee clinic. It allowed me to see a wide range of cases, and I was able to see experts in Xenomedicine. Other than that I picked up every shift I could in triage, but I spent my last few years in neurology studying the long term effects of deep space has on the neurological system and methods of preventative treatment.”
When there was a pause Cara smiled at the little plant in the old pot.
“Do you enjoy botany sir? I did some gardening back home on the colony,” Cara said admiringly.Ensign Cara Daniels- Doctor
Ben raised an eyebrow in a quizzical manner before turning around in his chair and looking at the plant “Hah!” He chuckled out loud “No I.. I don’t have much of a mind for gardening. I think it’s called a Golden Himeros or Pothos, something Greek like that” He turned back around “It’s the pot, not the plant. My first Department Head out of the Academy owned it, he was the most unusual man I ever met” He put his cup on the desk again “Ferengi with no lobes for business, hit on anything that moved and drank like it was his job. One time I walked in on him sleeping on the floor of his office. When I woke him up he threw up in that pot” He pointed to the discoloring on the pot itself “Had to drag him to a biobed to get him checked up, most difficult man I ever worked with.” He leaned back in his chair “When he left the ship he recommended me to take his place, I’d been out of the Academy for about two years. I was twenty-six at the time” He smiled somberly “Where was this refugee Clinic? San Fransisco?” He asked curiously without looking at her. He was looking into his desk clearly remembering something.

Cara blushed, embarrassed she had guessed wrong, but at least it let her learn something about her new CMO.
“Sounds like he really saw something in you,” Cara said before she thought better of it. The story was interesting and 26 was mighty young to take such a high position. Cara thought she was going to learn a lot from Dr. Grey. She thought about her violin and smiled.
“I have a violin my mother gave me a long time ago, I haven’t played in years but I still have it so I understand,” Cara said, it had been the last thing her parents ever gave her. When Dr. Grey asked about where the refugee station was she nodded.
“San Francisco yes, just outside the city, it was civilian run but star-fleet sent them trainees when they needed extra hands. It gave cadets something to do,” she said with a shrug.
“Though I suppose that’s nothing compared to the experience of being out here in deep space. There’s no more training modules or calling in specialist when we don’t know something. All we have out here is each other,” Cara commented as she raised her chin reflectively.Ensign Cara Daniels-Doctor
Benjamin chuckled at her final statement “That is the truth.” He grabbed his cup and went to take a sip but was greeted with an empty cup. He frowned at his empty cup “Well I have all I from need”
He looked back up and smiled again “There are three sickbays as you should know.
To start with you’ll be assigned here to Sickbay One under me”
He placed the cup back on the table “If you have any questions don’t hesitate but otherwise you can start yer shift”
