She reached for a commbadge and realized in the movement that it wasn’t there. Cursing again, she slammed a panel on the wall near the turbolift door that had interrupted her chase. “Ky’Laria to Commander Stone.” This would be much easier if her voiceprint had already been re-designated as a Starfleet officer; failing that, perhaps she was still registered as a foreign official, which might be enough to actually get in touch with the base commander. She wasn’t sure that the Security department had been made aware of her activities.

Someone’s footfalls were approaching. She looked over her shoulder at their source but paid little attention otherwise.

“I’ve located our person of interest, who has embarked a turbolift from my location,” Ky’Laria explained in a flat, firm tone. “I do not know her destination. Can we halt her lift car and deliver her to a security detail?” ‘Or to me,’ she thought, though even the Hunter within could begrudgingly defer to the more practical concern. The damage to her pride in failing to personally corner her quarry would be temporary, and she had to admit that plenty more was at stake in this moment.

While the man followed Ky’Larria, Karina had exited the establishment in the opposite direction. She was headed straight for the Commander’s Office. This wasn’t time to be playing hide-and-seek. If Ky’Larria knew where the woman was going, great. But Karina knew she was too far behind to hazard a guess.

She took the other lift and exited on the floor outside his office. Taking a moment to catch her breath, her heart racing and her breath shallow from the slow drain of adrenaline. She was pulling herself, and her thoughts, together before heading into his office and report.

The door to the Commander’s office was before her and his adjutant looked up, “Who can I say is calling” she asked politely.

Karina looked up startled. She hadn’t expected the door to be open. Some operative she’d make. The idea made her smile as she answered. “Ensign Niles to see the Commander. He’s expecting me.”

It was a little white lie. While the Commander was, technically, expecting her, it probably wasn’t at this precise moment. She stood up as she spoke and stepped towards the speaker.

From the inner door, a tall man with piercing green eyes and silver hair emerged.

“Ah, Ensign Niles,” he said in a gruff voice, “Nice to finally meet you.”

Karina stepped in and a look of confusion flashed over her face before she frowned. “Commander Stone. A pleasure.” She stepped in a bit further and tried to suss out why the Commander was acting like he had never met her. Her gaze swept the room looking for someone in there who may need lying to. Seeing no one, she wondered if someone on comms was listening.

This was interesting. What was going on?

OOC Helpful hint, you met “a” Commander Stone in a dingy little side room… it was this guys Mirror Universe counterpart, this IS the first time you’ve met your Universes Commander Stone :-) Sorry, I’m a mean man hehe.

Stone looked at her and his gaze narrowed. “What’s wrong ensign?”

“Ummm....” Karina moved in and stopped with a look of confusion on her face. There was no one else she could see. So she took a chance. “I’m … I came to report we have sight of the woman you wanted us to find. I came straight here to tell you and the others are in pursuit.” She made the report but was a little unsure why he seemed so aloof about her. She got the feeling he was treating her with a mild dismissal of their hand.

Stone looked at her with consternation, “Ensign, I haven’t told you to find any woman…” He suddenly froze and looked at her, “Ensign, tell me everything about this meeting you had with “me”.”

Karina frowned and cocked her head. “Ummm… Sir, I was here this morning at your request. You sent for me in the common room and said there was someone on the base w… I had to rack down.” She moved into the room, stopping when her hands came to rest on the back of one of the chairs across the desk from him. “Are you feeling all right?” She asked with concern on her face. As a medical doctor, the idea the man hadn’t remembered this morning’s conversation sent a million red flags up in her mind.
