Viyara laughed out loud in response and for a couple of moments she left him hanging. Then, still chuckling, she said, “Well, the short answer is: I’m a biochemist and I like to experiment. Sometimes unpredictable things happen or an experiment goes wrong.” She shrugged nonchalantly. “Let’s just say I learned that day which chemicals not to mix.”

“Wish I could’a been there to see that,” Paul laughed and crinkled his eyes “Biochemist eh, so what’s the main attraction of that field for you… or do you just like to blow stuff up?”

“Blowing things up is certainly part of the fun,” Viyara said with a wink. She then fell silent for a moment and her expression turned more pensive. Eventually she said, “For me it’s the mix of disciplines, I’d say. It’s not just chemistry or biology. But it’s all about exploring the chemistry of living organisms and the molecular basis for the changes occurring in living cells. And doing that by using methods from various fields: chemistry, physics, molecular biology and immunology. And other than say theoretical physics, it is very hands on. And it’s super helpful in my other science passion: forensic science!” Ash she spoke, her eyes sparkled with joy and excitement and she was radiating confidence.
