Liam gripped the console, his fingers bracing for the explosion. The ship rocked violently as his legs gave in. His body toppled to the floor, knocking the breath from him. Moments passed into seconds until his heart started to settle down. He lifted his head to spot the still form of Kurok.

His hand pressed his badge comm.

=^=Madison to sick bay. Kurok’s down, unconscious and appears to be bleeding from the ears.=^=

He suspected either a skull fracture or ruptured eardrums, but he couldn’t be sure. Either way, the engineer needed more care than he could give at the present.

After the uncomfortably long trip from Sickbay 3 Benjamin finally arrived in the main Transporter room. He ran over to the injured officer tricorder in one hand and the wand scanner in the other “Status?” He said from a kneeling position.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Liam, with the limited medical training he knew, prepared Kurok. He was in the middle of checking the pulse when his eyes shot up and spotted a familiar face. He instantly relaxed as he shifted over, giving the doctor more room.

“Nothing’s changed and it happened after the explosion. I suspect internal injury due to the symptoms of the ears. I was in the process of checking vitals before you arrived.”

The scanner showed that Kurok had received an electrical shock to his whole body and his extremities showed burn marks. His vitals were steady but his brain waves were flat as if there was no activity going on in the prefrontal cortex. The lights were on but no one was home.

Benjamin placed the wand in the tricorder and placed the device on the floor and then proceeded to open his medical kit “Neural oscillations flatlined” He quickly gabbed a Cortical stimulator from the kit and placed it directly on the man’s forehead and activated it “I’ll try to stimulate his brain functions before administering any medicine” He grabbed a hypospray and a vial of Cortical analeptic and prepared a dosage.

The brain function laid dormant through the first series of charges but then leaped back into activity if not somewhat muted to what it should be. There was significant neural damage still to repair but Kurok’s brain had at least taken the first step and he was in less danger of death.

Liam listened to the CMO as the man began to work on the fallen Engineer. His eyes watched intently and silence washed over him. There had been little he could do now without making things worse. When the CO’s request for an update, he pressed his com link and responded.

Benjamin closed the tricorder and let out a sigh of relief, something he tried avoid doing as it raised more concerns in people around him “He still has a considerable amount of neural damage but I should be able to repair it. Transport him down to Sickbay 3, until 1 has been given the all-clear by Engineering I won’t send another patient in there” He stood up, straightening his jacket “You feeling alright, Commander?” He asked with a tired smile.

“Depends on your definition of all ‘feeling’ all right? I ended up skipping a sleep cycle and the little bastard is irritated. Aside from that, I feel fine.” Liam knew a little radiation later would settle it down. For now, it would endure and deal with his stress.

His posture relaxed after hearing the CO mention both collecting the away team and the warp core. He hoped that meant the mission had started to resolve once and for all. With a little effort, Liam rose upright then began the teleport process.

“I just hope the CO’s message means things are settling down.”

Benjamin sat down, back against the wall, and placed his forehead in his left arm “I’ll agree with you there.” He closed his eyes for a moment, allowing the exhaustion to kick in “It’ll be a long time until people will feel comfortable in Sickbay one, even longer before I’ll allow anyone to use those blasted EMH bastards.”
