Disappointed that he hadn’t had a response from his fellow officers, and concerned that Ceres was equally quiet likely for a completely different reason, R’han used the weapon sounds to orient him to the flank of the enemy. It would be common tactical practice that the assualting force would extend their lines trying to get around the Federation officer… R’han would loop around and come on the outside of their position… laying down surprising fire from the flank or even the rear if he was lucky… not to far to the rear so he could get hit from behind by the enemies reinforcements. That were certain to be coming up.R’han
The tactical situation was grave. All of the survivors from the Athena we’re clumped in a roughly oval group around the Guardian of Forever. Security had positioned themselves around the oval but at this point there lines were stretched thin. There wasn’t a great deal of cover but Ceres had been smart enough to get someone to position the pods for cover. However the group inwards of them was in danger of being taken out by stray shots incoming. Ceres had taken a grazing hit to the chest, hence the lack of communication but he was bellowing orders at the top of his voice. The incoming shots were coming from so far out that they couldn’t really see the enemy who obviously had them outgunned and outdistanced.

Horace was an old man in a younger man’s profession. He was blowing a bit when he arrived slightly out of breath. The security forces were doing their best but someone had to do something and likely something stupid to balance the engagement. This was not his crew, this was his baby girls crew. She had died for them and he knew why.

The curved front was more ideal than a line in this situation. It allowed reinforcements to move from one point to another quickly allowing for an active defense. =^=Mass, hit, and maneuver… don’t let them pin you down to one position. =^= R’han would have to try to flank the attackers by himself. He only had one advantage, he wasn’t engaged and thus could move freely and he would have to strike hard and make it feel as if they were hit by a dozen men…

Ceres shouted over his shoulder his brown hair smudged with carbon black. “Got it sir”. The man’s eyes were tinged with anger and pain. At his feet another security officer lay dead, a blackened wound at the centre of his being, his eyes staring blankly into the heavens. Ceres eyes flickered to the man on occasion and it was obvious that this had been a friend.
“If you’re considering anything precipitous sir, I want in!” Ceres lay down a couple of shots which were hopelessly outdistanced. The line was holding but the superior range of their opponents was going to win the day, time was on their side.

=^=I’m going to hit them in the flank so they mass in the center. I want you to get one of the egg heads to go to one of the escape pods, put a phaser on overload in it, and have it use its thrusters to land in the the midst of them like a huge mortar… If we keep playing it straight they are going to crush us with numbers and firepower.=^=
R’han
Ceres bobbed his brown mane of hair and his green eyes glinted with malice. “Done sir”. Ducking and running whilst bellowing orders he headed to the outermost of the escape pods picking up two companions of route. It was going to take a minute or two to set it up.
Horace nodded at the Commander’s plan, it was bold to say the least. Horace scrounged until he found a Phaser rifle that was not in current use. The older gentleman had not had a plan beyond defend the ships company at the moment.
“Commander I am a fair shot, want some company on that flank?” Horace asked

The shots kept coming but they were less frequent and more calculating. Whoever was out there they were preparing to change their tactics.

“I need volume over accuracy… but feel free to take the lead and protect me from any erstwhile blasts.” R’han was equal parts courageous and cautious depending on the need. “We have to get them to stop thinking and just start reacting… if they use tactics, we’re toast… as you humans say.”
R’han
There was the sound of an escape pod blasting off on a low trajectory towards where the thickest of the fire had been coming from, instantly purple beams converged on the craft from multiple points to their left and right where the enemy had been involved in a flanking manoeuvre. The pod started to disintegrate but then the phaser went off and the pod exploded in a beautiful display of shrapnel that ceased enemy fire for several seconds.
Ceres came pounding up a tight grin on his face. “They fell back a bit thanks to that one sir” his face looked troubled, “I caught a glimpse, they’re not humanoid, some kind of octopoid, big and fast”.
The purple beams started up again as the foray was renewed with vigour.

Konral arrived as reinforcements for them all, looking around he nodded at R’han. “What we got today?” he asked looking at them all. It seemed they were in for a tough fight.
Vander, CoS
“Your guess is about a good as mine,” He looked skyward for a moment. “The bad guys from up there are down here now, and they continue to have advantages in number and weaponry. We have pushed them back for now…” He looked off towards the purple beams… “but you can see they are reforming. We will be pinned down in minutes… overwhelmed if the so choose a half an hour after that.”
“You know for once I would like to be in a firefight where we had the advantage.” Konral said, looking out at the enemy
“Lets get another escape pod mortar ready. They won’t fall for the same trick twice, but just in case.”
R’han CTO
Ceres was off like a shot towards another pod taking the team he had last time with him. They were intently talking to each other as they went, hatching plans to make this mortar better than the last.
Suddenly the firing stopped…

“I don’t like that.” R’han looked around. “Do you have a tricorder… I need a scan. Someone, get a scan.”
R’han
“I have one sir” A med tech who had been assisting wounded back and forth flipped out a med tricorder. “Seems the normal brand tricorder doesn’t work on whatever is out there” he said after a brief moment, I’m not even picking up heat signatures apart from our own. “Any other ideas on how we could pick up these things?”.
Ceres and his team were further out, heads together around a pod making adjustment. The silence was eerie.
Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)
“They are cephalopods, they should… ” He stared off. “Scan for the power sources, they are using energy weapons, there is no way they should be able to hide those.”

Vander, CoS
The med tech finished prepping a security ensign for transport to triage and then made a couple of adjustments to his tricorder. “Low level radiation signatures, seven of them closer in range”. He looked up at where Ceres was busy preparing another mortar and uttered an oath as he pointed, “closing on their position right now!”
