The Vulcan turned from the panel and faced the others once more. He’d managed to cut the power to the Holo Emitters in Sickbay, but he still looked distracted as he turned his hazel eyes to the Captain and Merri. Anyone with empathic ability would feel the pang of worry he was struggling to hide, about Jessica’s safety. As well as the growing dread he felt about being used in a telepathic manner. His voice nearly shook when he spoke. He didn’t want to address the issue Merri was bringing up. It would hurt… and then he’d have to explain it to people who had no business knowing his inner turmoil or the wounds he carried.
“It shames me.” He began, “However, I fear my participation would only be a detriment to your goal… I have… My feelings have been out of balance. I suspect my being connected to such an endeavor would only make it more difficult to sustain, and might even cause emotional or mental damage to others.” His eyes dropped as he hung his head.

Ghubari gazed intently at the engineer, her pale amber eyes full of understanding. As much as she wanted to address Va’rek’s issue, now was not the time. But nor was it the time for doubts. “You’d be amazed what can be accomplished in a moment of great need,” she said thoughtfully. “An open mind, perhaps, is all that is required,” she suggested. Meanwhile, the other part of her mind was preoccupied with whatever was going on down in Sickbay that had suddenly moved them into crisis mode (or more so than it had so far).

His shoulders straightened and he lifted his head, nodding silently as he composed himself. He was still afraid, and still worried about Sickbay and other things, but Va’rek found he couldn’t refuse such a duty as this.
“Alright,” He began. “What must I do?”

Merri’s mousy facade was deliberately dropped as she straightened and looked Va’rek in the eye with both kindness and resolve. “You will save two universes from destruction, in fact you are destined to do so. If you cannot believe in yourself, then lean on my belief in you, because I believe that the actions necessary will flow from you as naturally as the breath coming into and out of your lungs”.

Ghubari looked slightly amused. “Well, then, who can argue with destiny?” she said, gleam apparently in her eyes.
=/\= Sickbay to Bridge. Can you override the security protocol running in Sickbay with command codes? We are seven seconds away from an acidichloride attack. If not, beam everyone here to the secondary sickbay. =/\=
Dr. Lemann (crosspost)
Knowing that if their attempt to deactivate the EMG hadn’t helped the situation Ghuabri assumed that they would need to take stronger and faster action. “Beam them out of there, NOW!” she commanded. She would deal with the sickbay systems later , but the safety of her crew was the priority.

Already shaken, Va’rek’s stomach dropped as Jessica’s voice rang out again. Before Ghubari had finished speaking, he was turning to his console and pulling up the commands for the intra-ship site to site transporter control. He still had the power systems online at the station as well, so he took a chance to try and stall the gas attack by killing all power to Sickbay 1. Cutting power should drop any security fields that might interfere with transport, as well as perhaps slowing the gas from entering the room via the life support system. “I am cutting all power to Sickbay 1 to try and avoid interference with transport.” He stated as he worked. “Including Life Support.”
It took him only a second to align the patterns to the layout of the target coordinates. His nimble fingers flew over the console as he input commands and told the console where to send everyone in Sickbay 1. “I am sending them to Sickbay 3 on Deck 39, the farthest location possible from Sickbay 1.” Va’rek explained, his voice growing tight. He knew there were several people in Sickbay, not just Jessica and Dr. Grey. He hoped this was enough to save them. If it wasn’t… He couldn’t allow that thought. No time for fear now he thought. The pangs of frustration and sickening fear rolled through him anyhow.
He energized the Annular Confinement beam and held his breath waiting for confirmation that the site to site transport had functioned as planned… His heart pounded in his ears.
