Marishka had been behind the bar, in the shadows, watching the scene unfold. Her years of keen observation had warned her against interrupting the scene.
- Marishka
It was hardly an unusual response. Those that didn’t know her well were often surprised by their commanding officer’s presence at the piano. “Thank you,” she said warmly, her pale amber eyes taking in the newcomer keenly. Her fingers continued to dance across the keys and she continued in the blues theme. “I was just remembering how my first piano teacher would constantly tell me to watch my pacing,” she said with a light chuckle. “Later I discovered jazz and found my own feel for it.”
“Do you play?” Ghubari asked.

“I do not,” Va’rek answered, almost a subtle wistfulness in his tone. “I do play the Cello, though.” Captain Koraia’s eyes made him feel almost as if he were a book she was reading. Not just taking in, but comprehending. It made him a bit nervous. “I am sadly unfamiliar with ‘Jazz’, I shall have to research the subject.”

“Uggh,” she said with a shake of her head. “One does not research jazz.” Ghubari’s face was stern but only for a brief moment before she smirked. She slid over a bit on the bench to make room and patted it. “Come on, I’ll show you jazz.” Many of the crew might decline the offer because they were too nervous or thought they presence would be an imposition to her. And perhaps sometimes it could be when all she wanted was to relax and clear her head. But music was one of those universal languages. You didn’t have to know how to play or sing to have some music of some kind resonate with you. She didn’t know the Vulcan’s status in the realm of emotion but regardless, she was certain she could make him understand jazz even if he didn’t experience it in the same emotional way she did.
