=^=This commander R’han, we are setting up a command post off the Triage station. Security officers attached to the outermost pods, hold in place and set up a perimeter, report your position when secure.=^=The voice of Ensign Ceres came over the conn. =/\= Commander, I’m on the eastern side of the group. We’re pretty sure we saw some escape pods that weren’t ours coming down further out from our position, please advise. =/\=

=^=Observe and report from a safe position. I’m on my way. Do not engage…=^= R’han didn’t like the sound of that, but if the Athena did her job there might be escapees from the hostile vessel. Something they would have to deal with. He sprung out of the pod with large stride. He would double time it to the call.

Ensign Ceres did not acknowledge the call and did not reply for reasons as yet unknown.

OOC: I responded to this post, but I guess I hit that stupid Cancel button.
=^= Lieutenant Vander, Ensign Delaney, we have a possible security issue to the East of our landing area. Please meet me there on the double.=^= R’han continued at his double time pace. He wasn’t about to run blind into a situation. That would have two people ambushed if that was what happened to Ensign Ceres.
=^=Captain I think we have a issue to the East of the Landing Zone. Ensign Ceres reported multiple alien landing pods and now fails to respond to comms.=^=
Suddenly the comm badge sputtered back into life as a general distress call went out. =/\= Please advise, we are taking fire, I count seven hostiles… damn they’re fast… send backup…eastern quadrant…=/\= the Comm line went dead abruptly.

=^=Mr Ceres lay down suppressing fire… do not expose yourself to too much danger… I’ll be there presently.=^= Now that he knew that Ceres was at least holding his position… R’han could run to that location with relative confidence.
R’han
There was no reply but in the distance the sounds of phaser fire and a whine of some other weapon brought knowledge that the fight continued, fiercely.
Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)
Disappointed that he hadn’t had a response from his fellow officers, and concerned that Ceres was equally quiet likely for a completely different reason, R’han used the weapon sounds to orient him to the flank of the enemy. It would be common tactical practice that the assualting force would extend their lines trying to get around the Federation officer… R’han would loop around and come on the outside of their position… laying down surprising fire from the flank or even the rear if he was lucky… not to far to the rear so he could get hit from behind by the enemies reinforcements. That were certain to be coming up.

The tactical situation was grave. All of the survivors from the Athena we’re clumped in a roughly oval group around the Guardian of Forever. Security had positioned themselves around the oval but at this point there lines were stretched thin. There wasn’t a great deal of cover but Ceres had been smart enough to get someone to position the pods for cover. However the group inwards of them was in danger of being taken out by stray shots incoming. Ceres had taken a grazing hit to the chest, hence the lack of communication but he was bellowing orders at the top of his voice. The incoming shots were coming from so far out that they couldn’t really see the enemy who obviously had them outgunned and outdistanced.

Horace was an old man in a younger man’s profession. He was blowing a bit when he arrived slightly out of breath. The security forces were doing their best but someone had to do something and likely something stupid to balance the engagement. This was not his crew, this was his baby girls crew. She had died for them and he knew why.

The curved front was more ideal than a line in this situation. It allowed reinforcements to move from one point to another quickly allowing for an active defense. =^=Mass, hit, and maneuver… don’t let them pin you down to one position. =^= R’han would have to try to flank the attackers by himself. He only had one advantage, he wasn’t engaged and thus could move freely and he would have to strike hard and make it feel as if they were hit by a dozen men…

Ceres shouted over his shoulder his brown hair smudged with carbon black. “Got it sir”. The man’s eyes were tinged with anger and pain. At his feet another security officer lay dead, a blackened wound at the centre of his being, his eyes staring blankly into the heavens. Ceres eyes flickered to the man on occasion and it was obvious that this had been a friend.
“If you’re considering anything precipitous sir, I want in!” Ceres lay down a couple of shots which were hopelessly outdistanced. The line was holding but the superior range of their opponents was going to win the day, time was on their side.
