Kin had been watching silently from the back wall. While she appreciated the fast moves and flurries presented by the fighters, she shook her head and looked down to hide a small smile. Not everything was about speed and direct attacks, as her particular favored fighting style was based on almost the opposite.

While Ghubari couldn’t entirely dodge the kick, she was able to swing her staff down vertically as she let herself shift her balance to fall backwards. It meant that rather than staggering back and potentially tripping, she had control of how she landed. The mat came quickly, but her curled spine meant she could roll back and with some momentum, roll forwards to pop back onto her feet in a crouch. Though how that played out would entirely depend on if and how her bō made contact with Conner at all. Still, being down wasn’t actually the worst position to be in. Far from it.

The Bō caught its intended target. With a Grimace and a slight twist Conner backed sideways and gave her a chance to get back to her feet. He pondered her movements as he tested the weight on the now injured leg.

“Smart” Stark thought to himself as he watched the match. Many a combatant had tried to press their “advantage” with him when he was on his back only to discover that flat on your back with claws is less of a disadvantage than you’d think. Ghubari too wasn’t above seeming weak to catch an opponent off guard as they came for her. He had no idea where this would go next but he was pleased to see intelligence in the fight rather than just brute effort.

“Down never means out unless the person is incapacitated in one way or another. Never forget that, ensign, it might save your life one day,” Ghubari said as she popped back onto her feet and stood up again.

She took a step back and leaned on her staff gazing at Conner thoughtfully. “You okay?”
