Ghubari countered by turning her staff around and up as she rose to her feet and settled into her new balance. The clang of the wood was absorbed by the mats. “How long have you been training?” she asked.

With a grin the cadet paused for a moment to catch his breath and seemed to consider. “About 16 years or so give or take a few breaks due to filing schedules and exams and school transfers.” He nodded his head appreciatively atthe staff, “and you?” He caught himself “…Ma’am?”

Spinning the bō easily with two hands, Ghubari looked very much at ease, though she was deceptively aware and prepared to defend or attack as necessary. “Depends on what you consider training. Martial arts I didn’t start until I attended the Academy. But then again, I got into the early admissions program and trained in security, and I was sixteen, so… it’s been awhile,” she said with a wink.

Conner grinned back. “Well I will consider myself out matched.” He chuckled slightly and then spinning brought the sword around again for a series of attacks, ironically he moved straight into the same pattern he had just been practicing, 29 strikes and potential parries in quick succession moving forward and to the sides as needed.
