“Come in,” Koraia’s voice sounded through the comm.

Inside, Ghubari was standing behind her desk sipping from a steaming mug, spices wafting through the air. She gestured towards the sitting area. “Please come on in and get comfy. “Can I get either of you anything?”

Janna waved her hand. “No thank you.”

Laraan shook her had and took a seat. “No, thank you Captain. I’ll come right to the point, we both think that there are some crewmembers who are avoiding counseling because they need it very much after the recent traumatic events.” Laraan sang.

Koraia snorted slightly. “That does not surprise me. It’s been a series of difficult events, but this one really hard,” she said as she sat down. “That there are people going about business as if everything is fine is understandable and expected. What do you suggest?”

“Laraan was suggesting something about holo technology form her world but wanted to come see you before she explained. I have to admit, I’m curious myself, ” Janna said, gazing at Laraan with anticipation.

“Well, you remember the technology we got in exchange of the Athena’s help with the Heleen-Te’Paktan conflict? It’s a cerebral device that puts your mind only into a virutal holodeck of sorts, where you get to re-live certain traumatic situations as if they were real, only it’s supervised by the counselor and Janna and me can guide the participant to face their issues and overcome them. It’s the standard way of counseling on Heel and I’ve been trained in it. Yes the device can be used for interrogations, as Stark immediately saw, but that is not its primary purpose. In your mind you are faced with your truth, you can’t trick your own mind… this would even work with Cmdr. Rhan.” she said and smiled.

Ghubari nodded slightly, even as her eyes were shifting and the facial expressions changed with her pondering thoughts. “So, bear with me here while I try to really understand how this works. The person, the… patient, puts on the device and they… relive their experience? Or is the experience is projected externally? Like, how would you and Janna monitor and guide this process?”

Laraan nodded. “Yes they relieve the experience and the counselor can see what the patient sees as well. The device takes the memories from the patient and projects them holographically. Of course that means that sometimes they are not exactly what happened, but how the patient perceived and remembers it. The counselor wears the paired device and can decide how to counsel the patient through it. Either by changing the course of events, or by appearing in the holoprojection herself and counseling the patient through the experience. I usually did the second one, it depends on what the patient prefers. Some also simply want to relive it with the counselor watching, so that afterwards they can talk with the counselor about it and finally put it to rest.” she explained.
