“Honestly, yes,” Luka chuckled lightly. “It’s a new position and I’ve never had this type of responsibility before. The crew is just… so vast. There are so many people on this ship, and knowing I’m kinda in charge of the people who keep them alive, that is somewhat stressful.” she shrugged slightly. “I’m hopeful though. I’ve managed to adjust to my roles in the past and am confident I can do the same for this role. Maybe one day I’ll even be promoted to Captain - not of this ship. I truly hope Ghubari remains captain for many years to come,” she added.

“Well, I doubt you would be in this position if you weren’t talented at what you do. Seems like you’ve earned it to me.” he said with a grin. “I trust you’ll do excellently, as I’m sure the rest of the senior staff will as well.”

Orvos leaned back in his chair and added. “Is there any thing in particular you would like to know about me?”

“Hmm, I’m not sure exactly what to ask that isn’t just a counselor question,” she chuckled. “I guess I’ll start with background. Where are you from, what brought you to Starfleet, and why Engineering?”

Orvos leaned back as he considered her questions. He knew eventually she would find out. The team of department heads likely had to know anyway. Such security these days within the federation. It wasn’t like 19th century earth where you didn’t have to do much to infiltrate the society of the day. Nowadays, the Federation was very much aware of the El-Aurian people. The engineers need not know, but for the sake of this first officer, he felt he ough to share.

“I am El Aurian. My home is lost, and I’ve spent a great deal of time wandering about the galaxy to be fair. So, I guess you could say I am from anywhere. As for starfleet, it felt like the best opportunity within the federation to truly utilize my engineering skills.” He used one hand and gestured to the area right outside of his office window, highlighting a view of the warp core. “And for now, this is where I am.” Orvos was used to a multitude of extreme reactions when one encountered an El-Aurian. They were rare, and well known for their lifespans.

Luka’s race didn’t commonly cross paths with the El Aurians, and she didn’t really know much about them other than the fact that they had long lifespans. “Well, I guess that’s more than I expected from that question,” she chuckled lightly. “Do you enjoy being in Engineering, holographic pterodactyls aside?” She chuckled lightly.

Orvos was quick with the reply. “Most certainly! It’s home for me. Its what I’ve spent a great deal of my life involved in. Even outside of my work here I have engineered equipment I work on.” He left out the highly little known fact that he had designed an entire starship for his people–The Aurora.

At that moment the door to Legen’s office opened up. A very young, fresh faced engineering crewmen walked in. With out looking around he chimed in. “Ah Sir, Ensign Bennett said that I could just walk in here and that you have bottles of the Warp Core illumination fluid that he needs.” As soon as he finished he noticed that other person in the room and his eyes became as big as dish plates.

“Ah Crap” he muttered utterly frozen by what he saw.

Orvos blinked a couple times before giving a broad grin. “Ah, please, come in! Take a seat! The new first officer and I were just discussing some minor details. We’re just about finished. I’ll get you those bottles in just a moment.”

As the young man took an awkward seat, Orvos spoke up to Luka. “Anyway, what were we talking about? Ah yes, shenanigans committed amongst the crew. Well, you know how I feel about such things. But if you insist that things such as insubordination and tomfoolery be handled by security in the brig, then well…who am I to argue with our fine first officer? When would you like that to take effect again?” He gave the junior officer of his a sidelong glance as he listened for her reply.

Luka watched quietly throughout the entire exchange, and when Orvos began to speak again, she had to take pause for a few moments. “I was not speaking of any such sanctions, Lt. Legen,” she spoke frankly, glancing over at the young ensign, then back at the Chief Engineer. She was not a person prone to telling untruths, and would certainly not do so at the expense of a poor ensign who himself had likely been the brunt of another’s lie. Her gaze settled quietly on Orvos. She assumed he would be somewhat disappointed that she had not played along with his ruse, but she simply didn’t see the point in it.

If Orvos was disappointed, he made no indication of it. A small grin spread across his features at her before turning back to the crewman. “Honesty is always the best policy, crewman. Speak truthfully. Was it truly Mr. Bennett who sent you in here? Or was this a ruse of your own doing?” Orvos did not speak with any sort of malice, but that of an old man seeking the truth, despite the fact he looked so young.
