After finishing his physical, he figured he would go ahead and get the mental out of the way, too. He made his way to the Counselor’s office and rang the chime, waiting for an answer.

Ensign Caser Luj

The door was opened by a whip thin black Caitian, there were the sounds of muffled protestations from a secretary behind him but the figure seemed relaxed and carefree in a somewhat casually alert sort of way. His jet black eyes looked over the young Bajoran and he smiled showing copious amounts of canine.

The rookie officer was momentarily taken aback by the sudden appearance of the senior Caitian smiling at him. He leaned over the man’s shoulder, trying to get a look inside the office, but failing to notice anything.

“Welcome to the Athena Caser Luj” he pronounced in a voice barely above a sibilant whisper. “The counsellors are a little busy at the moment but perhaps I can keep you company for a minute or two”.

He looked back at the Lt Cmdr, not quite sure what was going on. “Have we met, sir?” he asked, unsure as to how the man knew who he was. Again, he tried to look inside the office to see where those muffled sounds were coming from.

“We have now” Stark said succinctly.

Behind them a high, pleasant female voice from the foyer/waiting room of the counselor’s 6 suites said “Cmdr. Stark, don’t scare off our clientel please.”

Stark turned and grinned “But Miss Cherry I’m not frightening at all, am I?” Turning back to the ensign he waved him in as he continued speaking, “Part of the problem is that this ship is so big that it’s hard for me to keep up with all the new people coming on board, but they all have to come here so here I lay in wait for them to arrive”

The ensign nodded, his brain making the connection. “Ah. Now it makes sense, sir.” He returned the senior officer’s smile with one that was 90% manners and 10% challenge. “Instead of arranging to meet with new crew in a more relaxed setting, you, by your own words, lay in wait for them to show up when they’re off balance and trying to adjust to their new duty station and pounce on them.” The words hung in the air just long enough to make the situation more uncomfortable before Luj laughed. “I’m just joking, sir,” he said. Which was true…mostly.

He turned to Caser Luj. “I’m just being efficient you see… my name is Stark Nightstalker and as I said welcome to the Athena”

The ensign nodded, extending his hand to the man. “Thank you, sir.”

He looked over at Cherry and smiled again “See Miss Cherry, pleasant, not scary” he kept grinning just a little longer than was comfortable in a social situation.

He made his way past the Intelligence Officer and walked to the desk, smiling at Cherry. “Ensign Caser Luj. I’m here for my boarding eval.”
