Rado Gainn was making his way to his room after a long shift that had included a pretty intense Tellarite breakup in the engine room. Honestly, he sided slightly with Gett, in part because Fra hadn’t mentioned that her upcoming birthday and thus shouldn’t have been all surprised when all he could pull together at the last minute was a cadet’s kazoo rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream.” Thankfully, the performance had been very light attended and thus nobody other than Gett and Fra was hurt in the brawl.

The reason why Rado was going to his room and not the cafeteria to gourge on Hasperat was because his wife T’Han messaged him to come to their room as soon as possible. Given that she had to go to the doctor because she was vomitting for no reason, he was worried that his Vulcan wife might be sick.

Taking a deep breath, he pressed the door chime. The door immediately opened to reveal T’Han sitting on a chair. “Gainn, sit down.”

“Hello, to you too.” Rado snarked. T’Han was less than amused.

“Your usage of sarcasm at this moment is illogical.” T’Han intoned, “This is a major life event for us both.”

“What makes you say that?” Rado asked, bemused. How could a case of morning sickness possibly equate to a major life event? Rado and his sister Xamis were sick all the time growing up on Bajor. Although that probably had more to with the fact that the Cardassians kept shutting down pharmacies.

“During my visit to the medical bay, it was discovered that I had inadvertently conceived a child.” T’Han explained.

Rado froze. He was going to be a father. Him! Of all the Bajorans spread across the galaxy, the Prophets deemed him among those worthy to continue the Bajoran populace. What metric were they using?

Jia’kaja, tre’nu’tol’a rem… La’por i’lanu kos… I’nar tan’a’tali nor…” He whispered to himself in Bajoran. He looked to T’Han who was staringly blankly at him, awaiting his response.

“I’m, uh, sorry but I think I need to go…process this if that’s alright with you.” He said nervously.

“It is ‘alright’, Gainn.” T’Han responded. “You may process this development as you wish.”

With that, Gainn stood up and exited the room.
