16 years ago, I stumbled upon this interesting little site that did Star Trek RP. I had never done RP in any form before. I had done a little google search for ‘Starfleet Academy’ because I was looking for the novels (I love reading the ST novels). Near the top of the search terms was this place. I started reading through posts on the Discovery and fell in love with the concept. Two weeks later, I joined.

I found the chat community in IRC and from there my life changed. At the time I had a 4 month old infant and was deep in the pit of postpartum depression. My social anxiety was so high I had a hard time leaving our apartment. STF changed that.

Here, I found community, common interests, and support. It has brought a level of joy in my life that I never anticipated and have clung to. I have made life long friends, discovered things about myself I never saw coming, and learned that I could write and that maybe I had a future with that writing.

But times change, and so do people. I’m entering a different chapter of my life, and at least for a little while I need a break from STF.

The Athena is near to my heart. I was her CO for over 10 years, and I’ve played Janna here for the last 10. And Faye is one of my favourite all-time characters.

I’m leaving the door open to returning, but for now I need the break. I’m going to wrap up the sim so we have a nice ending and I will write farewell posts for Janna and Faye (I have scenarios that leave their futures open).

Thank you all for your creativity and I will miss writing with all of you.

So sorry to see you go, linds, but it’s completely understandable. I’ve been there, too. I have loved RPing with you and sharing experiences with your characters (some of my best memories in the club). The club is not only losing an amazing writer and GM, but someone that has been an integral part of the club for many years .

Best wishes as you continue with the next chapter of your life. Hope to see you back sometime in the future!!!

End of an era. At least for now. You’ve been here, a steady presence from my first day on the site. A writer I’ve looked up to and admired even from early on. And here, years later, one of my best friends on this site. Many years of writing together and getting into and out of shenanigans. As always, I’m around on Discord. But I couldn’t not say something here.

This isn’t easy for me to write. We’ve already talked. I really hate seeing you go. But I understand. You and I have written a lot together, and I will never forget all of the memories made. You’re ALWAYS welcome back Linds.

In the spirit of Orvos’s character inspiration, I’ll leave this quote. “I always rip out the last page of a book. Then it doesn’t have to end. I hate endings!”

If you get time to come back someday, there’s a seat here waiting for you. Until then, I’ll simply say, see you later.
