“It seems the immediate area of the explosion was contaminated. The levels are low enough it shouldn’t cause any health issues for those exposed to it and is treatable.” Liam started when the CO addressed him.

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

The following came through the comms…

=/\= “I’ve detected a ruptured conduit in an adjacent section. Could attract repair teams, though I’m surprised we’ve found nobody yet. And oddly enough, all systems ten metres outside of the explosion are practically untouched. It took us significant time to get down here. Why would there be no repair crews? My first guess is that, given their limited amount of supplies, they have to ration out what is essential to repair. If I’m right, most of the systems effected near us are non-essential. Which tells me, this could easily have been an intentional explosion. Best place to do blow something up would be near unimportant systems.”=/\=

=/\=“I agree,” Faye said softly. “These people are struggling. Everything is hodgepodge, including the systems. But the explosives were highly effective and precise. Not the sort of thing these people would just have laying around. It was very intentional and I would bet you anything they were given to them but someone outside the structure. I’m starting to get a better picture of these people.”=/\=

=/\=“Which also means we could be dealing with someone or someones from outside of this hodgepodge of groupings? That or there is serious division going on with these people.” he noted, curious if the bridge would catch on to his thoughts.=/\=

Orvos spoke up. “That’s good news, especially for our away team, Madison. Is this compound something they have on inventory here? Or did they get this elsewhere?”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Liam’s answer was delay due to his processing the information from the comms. It took him a moment to realize the CO was talking to him causing him to straighten his lips. “Through replication, yes. They would leave a signature of sorts in the compounds though and I don’t recall any. However, that gives me an idea…”

He pulled up the data over the compound and the earlier scans, doing an forensic chemical analysis.

“In explosives manufactured by companies, there’s a chemical signature left that can be traced. If they stole it, we can possibly track it back to the owners. Then we can find more information from there. However, there’s a chance this might turn into a dead end if there isn’t one.”

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

Orvos stood up, eyes on the chief science officer as he meandered about the bridge. “That could be helpful. Perhaps there are other people looking for these people if it was stolen. Though if Commander Calloway is right, these people may not be entirely capable of stealing from these other vessels. Perhaps they are partnered up with someone who can?” he thought aloud.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

The chemical composition at first looked as expected, but the computer identified a 0.01% trace of seratinum, the chemical created when a particular alloy was destroyed. This alloy, though rare, was used by the Ferengi, but it wasn’t clear what part of the device had contained this alloy.

~Mischief Maker

He continued moving about the bridge, listening to the various things going on as he awaited more from his Chief Science Officer. It was different for him in recent years, being at the center of it all. His ability to lead had been pulling through, despite his desire to steer clear of the command chair. Janna had helped him come to terms with it. She was, in all honesty, a true blessing to him.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

After several moments of digesting the information, Liam broke his silence. “There is a 0.01% trace of seratinum. It’s a chemical produced when a particular alloy is destroyed. It’s rare, but used by the Ferengi. I can’t determine the what part of the device it was in, unfortunately.”

He switched over to locate the reports of the missing ships and seeing if he could pull up a cargo manifest. If it didn’t show up, it added evidence to a third party involved. If it did, it might’ve been possible to narrow down the components and figure out the part used. It was a slim chance, but worth the time to check.

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

The manifests showed what they had learned before that the cargo ships had been carrying food, medical supplies and other basic necessities. When one of the ship went missing, a new request for the supplies was filed. There were no metals or other substances as a part of the supply orders.

The following came in via comms…

=/\=He’s close by,” she said softly. She didn’t whisper, since that created harsh sibilants that were easier to hear than a quiet low tone. “Timing is everything. We need to get him, and get the shuttle. But the shuttle will draw attention. If the others haven’t found Ducante yet, we might disrupt their efforts. In that case, We might need to split up, you take Morgan back to the Athena with the auto-transporter beacons I brought and I can either retrieve the shuttle or wipe and kill the computer.”

Dawson: “That’s exceptionally risky. Your mission was to get Morgan to the ship. Let’s get him there. I can go the extra effort to take care of the shuttle.=/\=

Orvos heard what was said and made a different suggestion. Speaking to the duo, he said through the comm link, “We have Callahan in charge down there providing for distraction. Why don’t we use that to our advantage? Have them get the shuttle?”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

=/\=With any luck they will find Ducante soon,=/\= she said quietly. =/\=Maybe, if he’s in stable condition, but that explosion took out three decks. We should be anticipating medical emergencies here and the priority for them is to retrieve our Chief of Security, yes? If, and that’s a big question right now, Ducante is okay and he can just be beamed back, then maybe they can try for the shuttle.=/\=

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Orvos considered Faye’s thoughts and agreed with her assessment. “Let’s not put too much on their shoulders then. Commander, I’m also in agreement with Dawson’s recommendation. I have every confidence in my former first officer to handle extra objectives down there. Let’s keep our eyes on the main prize.”

Moving to the Liam, Orvos inquired, “Any more information?”

He then moved over to his seat and had ops connect him with Callahan. =/\=Commander Callahan, status?=/\=

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Meanwhile, the Black Ops team continued.

=/\=Splitting up is Plan B, not A. We’ll come to that if necessary. For now, let’s just find our quarry.=/\=

A couple minutes later, the open comm picked up the second team’s speech again. =/\=We might trigger an alert with the lock, though I did send a scrambling signal to disrupt it. It’s not perfect though. Cover us,” Faye said.

=/\=Morgan,=/\= Faye said softly.

A small groan sounded before Faye’s voice sounded again. =/\=Silas, we’re friends. From Starfleet. We’re going to get you out of here to safety.=/\= Then… =/\=He’s not stable enough to walk out of here. We’re going to have to beam him back.=/\=

~Mischief Maker

Dawson’s voice came in softly. =/\=Why don’t we hit two birds with one stone. What if Athena could beam us to the shuttle? From there, we can get it back to the ship and get Silas the help he needs. No need to split up. And no need to continue trapsing through this place.=/\=

-Dawson “Stillwater”

=/\=Yeah, I like that.=/\ There was some quiet rustling. “Athena… lock on to mine and Dawson’s signals and beam us to the shuttle. We should be two decks down and aft of where the away team set down. Hurry.”

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Orvos immediately linked up with the transporter room. “Transporter Room 1, lock onto Calloway and Dawson’s signals and beam them directly to our shuttle down there.”

=/\=Aye, sir. Signals confirmed. Initiating transport....Confirmed success sir.=/\=

Orvos kept his ears open for any other issues and the status report from Callahan.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

OOC: Cross post

IC: =^=We’ve spotted him, Captain. He’s injured, but alive. Has some company with him, too. We’re going to do some quick first aid and then beam them both up.=^=

Lt. Cmdr. Harrison Callahan
CTO-USS Athena

The transport was successful and moments later the structure had some sort of alerts triggered.

~Mischief Maker

Soon enough it was clear the Black Ops team was on the move through the chatter.

=/\=Stay with him,=/\= Faye told Dawson urgently. =/\=Don’t let him be alone. I’m getting us out of here.=/\= A couple moments later. =/\=We’re been found out, but that won’t matter for long,=/\= Calloway said.

=/\=You’re doing good. You just hang in there.=/\= Dawson said in a more calm manner than was typical for him. (Though who he was talking to was not automatically obvious.)

A couple minutes later… =/\=Bridge,=/\= Calloway said, bringing herself back into more external awareness. =/\=Have the shuttlebay ready. The second we land, beam us right to Sickbay.=/\=

The shuttle was coming in at a hurry. There were signs the structure had gone to some sort of alert status.

~Mischief Maker

Meadows chimed in. “Captain, the shuttle is inbound!”

=/\=Bridge to shuttle bay, get those bay doors open on the double! When Calloway lands the shuttle, lock onto them and beam them directly to sickbay.=/\= called out Orvos as events were suddenly all culminating together.

=^=Athena, this is Callahan. Ducante and the Orion need to beamed immediately to sickbay. Alarms are sounding here now. What’s the status of Calloway and Dawson?=^=

Lt. Cmdr. Harrison Callahan
CTO-USS Athena

=/\=Understood Commander. Hang tight. We’ll get you back here in no time.=/\= replied Orvos to the more obvious away team.

He then tapped his combadge.=/\= Bridge to transporter room 1, lock on to the away team and beam them back. Beam Ducante and his - er - orion friend to sickbay. Then beam the rest of the away team back.=/\=

This was bound to be interesting. He still hadn’t heard any news on their fellow in the brig. And he felt like perhaps they were on to some sort of discovery on the bridge. Turning to Madison once more, he inquired, “Anything new to report Commander?”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

A short while later, the transporter room confirmed that Calloway, Dawson and their rescued party were all in Sickbay.

~Mischief Maker

Bump

Orvos acknowledged the communique as he paced the bridge, glancing at various consoles as he processed things

Janna was likely still in the brig. He hadn’t heard anything new from her or Hammor, though he figured they would say something if they had something of use.

Commander Calloway and Dawson had retrieved their target and were now in sickbay. The same sickbay his first officer was mending in. The same sickbay taking care of Ducante. Sickbay was hopping, he was certain.

His chief science officer was still busying himself with information pouring in.

Orvos turned his gaze to the viewscreen as he came to a stop. His eyes took in the sight of what his senior staff had escaped. He moved closer to his seat, eyes still on the viewer as he processed everything.

“What’s going on down there?” he said aloud, his voice tinged with frustration. He half expected them to hail the Athena. Though if they hadn’t, he was considering doing so himself. What was he to say though? They were still investigating things and the inhabitants of the asteroid, so far, had been no help. What could they possibly provide from down there.

Orvos figured their only hope lie in what Liam discovered in his research or what Hammor and Janna might have gotten out of their prisoner in the brig. Though if Silas had been talkative at all, perhaps Faye would have more information soon? For now, he waited for a report from someone on the bridge as to what was going on in the facilities of the asteroid.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Lt. Cmdr. Callahan stepped onto the bridge and moved to the tactical station and logged in. He wanted to be ready in case the base attacked them.

“Captain, I’m assuming all the alarms going off means that Calloway and Dawson were successful?”

Orvos looked back to the tactical station. “It’s what it seems. The alarms sounded down there when the team pulled off the extraction. Any news on your side of things?”

“The Orion we retrieved with Ducante had taken a beating. He was in rough shape, but was able to share that he was being held prisoner AND was about to be sold into slavery. There are others being held and sold as well.”

Lt. Cmdr. Harrison Callahan
CTO-USS Athena

Callahan’s information was just the ticket they needed. Orvos immediately tapped his combadge while allowing his mind to search for her own on the ship. He had no idea whether she’d even pick up on it, but nevertheless he gave it a go as he spoke. =/\=Bridge to Kingston, a word if you will?=/\= His message was meant to indicate to her that he needed her out of earshot from any bystanders. They knew each other well. if she hadn’t picked it up in his words and voice, perhaps his reaching out would. If it even worked.

Once it was clear he could speak, he relayed the new information to her. =/\=I’ve gotten word from Commander Callahan that they rescued an orion who was being held prisoner. Apparently there are others being held in order to be sold into slavery. I have no idea if you or Hammor had any luck in getting more information, but this may help.=/\=

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

There were signs of something happening on the installation, and a moment later an NE spoke up. “Captain, there is a small ship leaving the facility. Sensor readings indicate it’s in a hurry as well.”
