OOC: I’m going to assume the XO’s surgery is done at this point and Stone is in recovery. You don’t have to go to the patients, everyone will be coming into this thread.
IC:
An alert came through and one of the nurses turned to the other medical staff. “We’ve got an incoming medical emergency from the away team. Black Ops team in bound with the shuttle. ETA, five minutes.”

~Mischief Maker

“Ok, thank you.” Lt. Sharvi responded, “Please let them know we are prepared.” He continued.
Lt. Sharvi, Doctor.

The first wave of patients arrived, as their missing Chief of Security and an Orion male were materialized in Sickbay. The Orion all but collapsed to the deck as the surge of adrenaline from their escape faded.

~Mischief Maker

Lt. Sharvi immediately starts scanning the Orion with the tricorder and points to Lt. Ducante. “I’ll check the Orion, someone look at the Lt. please.” He stated. He was glad to see the Chief of Security back on board. He started to get the results of the tricorder scan on the Orion. He also wondered how Lt. Janvier’s surgery on the XO was going.
Lt. Sharvi, Doctor

Janvier had done all she could on the XO and was doing one final check to make sure he was as comfortable as he could be. Now all he needed was some time. Satisfied that she had done what she could for him, she ducked away to quickly wash her arms before coming back to see where she would be needed next.

Lt. Ducante went in and out of conciousness, finally letting the adrenaline go. He and the Orion were saved, and beamed to the ship and all he could see was a bunch of blinking lights.
Lt. Ducante, Chief of Security

The Orion was in pretty bad shape. There were obvious cuts on the man’s bare arms and he could see a deep bruise on his face that did not look fresh from the fall during the explosion. It surrounded one eye and the man had a hard time opening it fully. A quick scan revealed two broken ribs and a hairline fracture of his right femur, along with multiple contusions. But aside from the obvious ones from the fall, there were signs of bruises that were older. There was a medical wrap on his ribs that was Starfleet issue and likely Ducante’s doing.

If someone scanned Ducante, he was suffering from internal bleeding from his liver. He also had contusions and lacerations that would need tending to once the emergency was dealt with.

=/\=Ensign Sinara to Sickbay. Be advised, your Orion patient’s name is Togge, and he was a prisoner. Be gentle with him.=/\=

~Mischief Maker

OOC: Not sure if I’m supposed to post here or not as the Memorial people have been left out of the sim so far, but I’ll go ahead and if the GM doesn’t want it, they can delete it, I guess.

Talia was coming from the back stores of sickbay when the patients were beamed in. Seeing how Lt Sharvi reached for the Orion, she was there for Ducante. Betweeh her and one of the nurses, they got him settled on a biobed and began scans. “Picking up internal bleeding. It looks like his liver is lacerated. I need a tissue regenerator and he’ll need blood infusions to replace what’s pooled in his abdomen.” The tool appeared in her hand from one of the other medical staff, and Ren began focusing on the internal laceration. As she mended the wound, others worked on the visible contusions and hairline fractures that also came up on the scan.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Talia Ren
Doctor USS Athena

OOC: I might just leave Elaine open for now, depending on what GM wants to do.

Lt. Janvier, CMO

OOC: waiting to hear from the GM about Ducante’s treatment.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Talia Ren
Doctor USS Athena

OOC: I was getting there. Busy few days and I was unwell for part of it. ;) The fracture (there’s several) is on the Orion. Ducante has no fractures. Someone should help the Orion, and now you have a 3rd patient. Plenty for everyone! :D
IC:
The liver laceration was small and easily repaired given Ducante hadn’t been bleeding for too long. It was enough that his blood pressure was on the low side, but not critical. The lacerations and contusions would be easily fixed with a dermal regenerator.

A moment later, their second batch of arrivals materialized into Sickbay. Dawson and Calloway (dressed in black ops gear) were crouched on either side of a man who seemed unconscious

~Mischief Maker

Talia was just finishing up healing the liver laceration on Ducante, when more officers beamed into sickbay.

“Help me get him on a biobed,” Faye said to Dawson, carefully slipping her arms under the frail officer.

“This is Silas Morgan, a rescued officer. He’s been imprisoned for awhile now and is suffering for a whole host of issues,” Calloway said aloud to any of the med staff who were free to tend to him. She moved to the head of the biobed, trying to keep out of the way, though her hand was on his shoulder. “Be gentle with him,” she said, her voice softer as her stormy grey-green eyes gazed downwards at him.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

With a nod to the nurses who were treating the contusions, she walked over to the new patient, Silas Morgan. He didn’t look well at all. She set him up for several scans to see where they were at and what she could report to the CMO for possible treatment. OOC: waiting to see if Cass wants to step in here before I go any further.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Talia Ren
Doctor USS Athena

Elaine had been crossing Sickbay to check on how Lieutenant Sharvi was doing with the Orien when Dawson and Calloway came in with Silas Morgan. Doing a quick turnaround she drew her attention over to the newcomers. Her white coat floating around her almost made her look like she was a ghost as she smoothly guided around the working staff, so quickly that all most of the staff felt was a faint breeze as she went by.

It was all hands on with the new patient and noting Ren was already setting up scans Elaine took down his details from Calloway while Ren took the results of the initial scans. “Of course,” Elaine said softly, “He’s in the best of care now, you’re welcome to stay by him while we work, you won’t be in the way there or” she paused and looked over at Dawson to make sure she had his attention as well, “Or you can both get checked over now and I promise you he will still be there once you’ve been done,”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

“I’ll stay,” Faye said firmly, doing her best to keep the waver out of her voice. She kept one hand on Silas’ shoulder and and slipped the backpack off her back, tossing it slightly behind her to the wall, and then pulled off her head covering, also tossing it behind her.

Morgan murmured something that almost sounded like a whimper and stirred back into half-consciousness. She bent forwards towards him, her words soft, her gaze unfocused. “It’s okay. I know, I do. It’s going to be okay. It doesn’t feel like it right now, but I promise you it will get better.” It wasn’t that anyone had said those exact words (that she could recall), but the soothing voice, the reassurance, those she remembered. They later turnd out to be from her own mother, but that was a different kettle of fish.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

To say Morgan was in rough shape was an understatement. He was clearly malnourished, severely dehydrated, and sleep deprived. There were multiple contusions and several micro fractures that were unhealed. There was evidence of slightly older and larger fractures that had seen some osteogeneration. In short, they had broken the man, put him back together, multiple times, though it seemed like the most recent fractures were at least a week old now. Possible because he was in too rough a shape to be of use to anyone.

~Mischief Maker

Talila brought her PaDD over to Dr Janvier and showed her the final analysis on Morgan. “He’s in terrible shape, Sir. There are signs of long term torture or abuse. He’s going to need several days in here in order to address it all. The first things to do would be to help him get his strength back and to alieviate any pain he might be feeling. After that, we can relign any fractures that need it and heal them so his limbs will work unaffected by them.”

“Thank you” Elaine said softly, reading over Talia’s shoulder, listening to the other doctor as she did.

Nearby, on one of the occupied biobeds, Serena stirred. A hand twitched first. Then a foot. Unconscious systems checks. Anesthesia wearing off

She drifted in a black void of blissful ignorance, just below unconsciousness. She could feel herself surfacing and desperately wanted to go back. Pain waited for her there, above the surface. Pain and fear. In her mind she protested, but continued to rise anyway.

The protest came out as a faint groan, almost like trying to talk in her sleep. She broke the surface and found the pain muted. Distant. Like a bruise instead of a wound. She was somewhere warm. Safe. And a dozen voices talking rapidly filtered into her consciousness. Part of her wanted to scream at them to shut up and let her sleep. But, it came out as a faint croak. Her mouth was filled with sandy paste.

The need for water brought her around more, and she became aware of the light filtering in from over head. Trying to raise her arm, she found it restricted by something. It was thin, but heavy. With effort it moved. She did her best to crack one eye and peer down. A stab of brighter light filled her blurry vision, making her groan. Trying again, she managed to get both eyes open.

In a moment the bright light resolved with her eyes adjusting to the light. She lay on a biobed, covered in a thin but weighted recovery blanket. And as far as she could tell and feel, she was apparently naked beneath it. Everything ached. She felt old.

Her bed had a privacy screen but she could make out the familiar surroundings of Athena’s Sickbay 1. A glance up at the monitors showed her vitals were in mostly acceptable ranges, as far as she could remember from years of experience, and even combat lifesaver certifications. Good news then.

Looking down under the blanket she took a quick inventory. Everything was there, for the most part. Her head dropped back onto the pillow, and that’s when she realized… her hair. One hand reached up, feeling her head. Most of her auburn hair was gone. Disappointment followed. She’d worked so hard to grow it out, maintain it, but do so in a way that was safe for a career security and tactical officer. She could have worn it short, but she’d only done that as a cadet and ensign.

She sighed. Oh well. At least it was only temporary. And… she could probably get it fixed pretty quick.

Listening to the voices chattering, she couldn’t make out what was going on. She reached out and killed the privacy field, then moved to sit up.
Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer

As the CMO stepped up to Morgan’s bed, Ren noticed movement out to her side. It looked like Cmdr Stone was comming around. The privacy field suddenly disappeared and she saw the XO sitting up with the sheet pulled around her upper body, looking confused. Talia walked over to her, one eyes on the console that displayed Stone’s vitals and one eye on the woman. “Hi, Sir. You’re in sickbay. You’ve been here for a while. If you feel weak and disoriented, its normal as you’ve been in a coma the last several days.”

Here, she called back over her shoulder, “Dr Janvier, Cmdr Stone is awake and alert. All signs are reading within normal limits.” Talia advised the XO to lean back and give them a minute to get to her. “In the meantime, how about a cup of juice?” She nodded to a nearby nurse. “Orange juice for the Cmdr, please.”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Talia Ren
Doctor USS Athena

Elaine automatically looked up when Talia called out her name and smiled, relieved to know that the Commander was doing well for someone who had just come out of surgery. She hadn’t known Talia that long but she knew that the Commander was in the best of care.

The redhead was mostly reclined against the bed, and after a moment of fiddling it shifted to accommodate and make her more comfortable. She tried to speak but her throat was so dry she couldn’t get out more than a few parched notes. Taking a moment she tried to work up a little saliva with only mild success. She nodded to the juiced, and finally managed, through the desert of her throat, “Report.”

She’d been out for days? It sounded like a very close call. She tried to remember, retracing her steps. Confusion passed over her face again. Not that she lacked understanding of what she was hearing and seeing but....

One of the nurses, NE Janice returned with a sealed cup with a drinking straw poking out of the top. The end of which she offered to the Commander. Reaching out, Serena took the cup in both hands gently, though Janice didn’t relinquish yet. The juice stung slightly cracked lips and parched tongue. But the moisture, sugars, and other nutrients were life-giving. Serena took a long pull from the straw, downing half the cup in seconds.

Licking her lips she rested her head back. “Last I remember was getting ready to transport over to the.. the… station. Thing. Junkyard mess.” Stormy eyes settled back on Ren, The doctor was… so young looking. To Serena’s eyes she looked like she still belonged in first or second year of the Academy, not wearing the pips of a junior grade lieutenant on the flagship of the Pioneer Fleet. But, how old had Serena been when she was cleaning and calibrating phaser rifles and learning to clear rooms? Ten? Eleven? Those pips were her stripes and she’d earned them, Stone was sure.

Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer

Confident Ren had things under control, Elaine gave her full attention to her patient.

One look at him she didn’t need the scans to tell her he was in a deal of pain, she could hear it in his vague mumbles. She leaned forward and spoke gently hoping he could hear her “Silas, I’m going to give you some painkillers now, they’re going to be strong so I expect them to knock you out for a bit,” She was half speaking to Morgan but also making sure the officer who brought him in could also hear her as well. “You’re in a safe place now, wo we’re going to let your body rest and when you wake up you are going to be feeling much better than you do now,”

Silas blinked open his eyes, and for a brief moment made direct eye contact with Elaine. There was pain, but also gratitude. “Oh… kay,” he murmured.

She turned around and told a male nurse of what she needed him to get. While he was off running her errand, she administered the painkiller, feeling sorry for the poor man in front of her who had suffered so much. It made her so angry that humaniods could treat others so callously, but none of that showed on her face while she sorted her equipment waiting until she was sure Morgan was unconscious before she began treating him.

“He’s got many injuries in various states of healing,” she spoke as she moved, “I could be here a while, the older injuries are partially healed so they’ll take me longer to do than his newer ones. You are welcome to stay and talk to him as long as you like, if you want some small jobs to do,” she looked up and gave a slight smile, “I’m sure I can find plenty. People find peace of mind in various ways so if you want to leave and get your own rest, I can page you when he wakes up again. I’ll leave the choice to you. My colleague is just grabbing some specific supplements for me to administer help Morgan keep his strength up until he wakes up.”

It took Faye a moment to process Janvier’s words and she lifted her head, fixing her stormy grey-green eyes on Elaine. “I… I’m not sure yet.” She didn’t want to leave, but could she stay? Should she? Faye was becoming all too aware of the danger zone she was currently in. It wouldn’t take too much to send her over the edge and into the safe sanctuary of her mind.

Leaving Calloway to decide, she turned back to her work and began on her work to regenerating the fractures in his bones starting with the worst first and working her way back.

Lt. Janvier, CMO

Morgan was calm as the CMO began to work. It was hard to stay awake, and yet the familiar beeps and voices of spaces he was more accustomed to were like a symphony piece. He couldn’t really move his head, but he was aware of the hand still on his shoulder. Words flitted through his hazy memory and he sighed. “You too… huh?” But the painkiller kicked in and his eyes slipped closed again.

~Mischief Maker

Tears sprang to her eyes. He could have been talking to someone else, or even been delusional, but Faye knew better. He knew. He knew that her body understood all to precisely what his had gone through, at least in a general sense. She looked up and avoided looking at Janvier or Dawson. Instead, her eyes found the now awake form of Stone. “I’ll let you work and check in in a little it. If he wakes up earlier, let me know.”

Working in medicine patients said all kinds of things when they were drifting off or on meds, she was used to it so when Morgan spoke Elaine thought nothing of it and remained focus on what she was doing. It wasn’t until Calloway spoke that she noticed the change, his words had meant something to the Intelligence Officer. “Of course,” Elaine replied, “You’ll be the first to know.” Her eyes tried to search meet Calloway’s but couldn’t. There was something there that sparked something in her mind, but she wasn’t sure. She’d dwell on it more later. Perhaps all it meant was that she needed more coffee.

Faye stepped away from the biobed, moving around Dawson and avoiding his gaze. Instead of leaving Sickbay (which is what she desperately wanted to do), Calloway came over to Serena’s bedside, definitely looking out of place in her black ops outfit (sans hood). She had swallowed down the tears and inhaled a steadying breath. “Well, you’re a sight for sore eyes,” she said to Serena, before giving Doctor Ren a nod of acknowledgement. “You know, they say being caught in explosions is bad for your health. We might need to do some more training together to work on your reflexes.” The joke came out far more easily than she had expected and even managed a smirk.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

As Calloway moved away, Elaine bent over her patient once again focusing intently on her job at hand.

Lt. Janvier, CMO

Dawson had helped Faye get Silas to the biobed. Anything he could do or was asked to do, he complied. He was quiet for now, observing the rescued officer for a moment. He was in terrible shape. Fractured bones, malnourishment, pain. The doctor had suggested it would take days to get him healing. Torture was certainly an accurate term. There was little now he could do, but to leave him in the capable hands of the doctors. He wouldn’t be sharing much any time soon it seemed.

His mind picked up on Faye. She was doing her best to keep herself together, but it was clearly wearing her down. His eyes moved to take in Calloway. He had heard Silas mumble something before tears started forming in Faye’s eyes. She didn’t look back at him. To be fair, it seemed as though she were avoiding eye contact with him all together. He didn’t blame her. She was doing a lot. And the burden of leadership only served to put the weight of all that on her even more. That, coupled with everything she likely was thinking, didn’t seem like a good combo.

He kept his gaze fixated on the doctors as she walked by. His eyes were fixated, but his mind and ears were tuned in to Calloway. He was ready to speak up if needed, to offer whatever assistance he could for her. She seemed, for the moment, able to distract herself for the moment. And Serena likely could use the company anyhow. He let them be for the moment.

-Dawson “Stillwater”

Serena flashed Faye a weak smile at the joke. She didn’t have a ton of energy for more. Despite the best efforts of modern medicine, and overall being fine, it would take a littel bit to feel recharged. Transfusions helped, but repairing the damage, even with tissue regenerators… the energy had to come from somewhere. The materials and resources too.

Still, she reached out, offering one hand. It was part anchor and part harbor in storm-tossed seas and they seemed to be pretty rocky. “Show me a human that can dodge detonations or materials moving over six thousand meters per second when practically standing on it, then we’ll talk about reflex training.” A wry smirk spread across her face then, for a moment before , she let out a wince and faint groan. Left hand came up to hold her eye and side of her head for a moment. The discomfort subsided after a moment, and Serena jerked her chin toward Faye and the chaos going on next to them. “I apparently missed a lot. But it seems like you did good. Best you could. I’d reckon it’s better than most. So don’t be too hard on yourself. “

Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer

Faye closed the distance to the biobed and took the proffered hand. For a moment she just focused on the warmth of the woman’s skin, and then she squeezed the hand gently, knowing Stone didn’t have a lot of energy to squeeze back. “I couldn’t leave him there. Hell, we didn’t know if he was even there, but I had to find out. After you and the team went down, I kept digging into the records of the crews lost and got a ping on Morgan being an undercover agent. Someone gave me cryptic info that let me know I had to keep digging. They’re trafficking in people, Serena. That’s what this is all about. We just don’t know who they’re being sold to or why.” She shuddered and looked over her shoulder at the Orion on the biobed, her mind whirring, branching, calculating.” The man was clearly unconscious, so no help on that front. At least solving this mystery kept her mind away from her own experiences. Barely. It was a battle she was slowly losing.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Elaine’s work on Morgan progressed slowly. Bones could be mended, tissues regenerated, nutritional infusions hooked up, but nothing short of time and effort on Silas’ part was going to bring him back to a healthy and strong body. It was clear as she began to work that the administered fluids were helping stabilize his blood pressure, and the supplements would likely start to show their effects in the next few hours. For now though, he was under the sedating effect of the painkillers and at least for the time being, pain-free.

~Mischief Maker

Making her way from one patient to another, Talia oversaw the ones the CMO wasn’t working on. There was a large staff in sickbay because of the injured and/or suffering that had just come in and those that were feeling off because of the radiation earlier, so everyone was on their toes and working for the betterment of the crew. “If any of you are in pain, please let us know. If you are experiencing other symptoms, tell us that too so we can follow your progress through this.”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Talia Ren
Doctor USS Athena

OOC: There’s no radiation involved here. We have 3 current patients (outside of Stone): the COS, Morgan, and the Orion, Togge. I’ll re-paste his scan so someone can help Sharvi with him before he gets worse. ;) The rest of the away team was initially looked over in the transporter room, but Stone’s condition was serious and took priority. The only other one who had needed any medical attention at that time was Kingston, and she was given a booster of clotting agents due to bruising she sustained being carried away from the explosion.

Elaine paused with the work she was doing and repairing giving herself a chance to stretch a little bit and check Morgan’s readings pleased to see that her work was slowly making a difference. Slow work but he showed signs that he would improve, she only had a few more injuries to heal and then she’d leave him to it. Making sure he had enough in his system to make sure he slept for a few hours. With all the work his body was doing, he would certainly need it and sometimes the best medicines were the tried and true, rest, positivity and good food and water.

She locked eyes on Talia and gave her a smile and a nod, grateful to have such a dedicated officer to be on her staff. She wasn’t sure what she’d do without the other woman on her team. As soon as she had done all she could do she wanted to check on how Dr Sharvi was doing with the Orion and see if he needed a helping hand. The Orion looked like he was in even a worse way than Morgan was. She glanced out of the side of her eye at Talia and smiled quietly to herself, of course that was if her dedicated colleague didn’t beat her to it. Otherwise, there was plenty more work to be done and she wouldn’t mind checking over the Intelligence officers that had brought Morgan in. She knew enough Intelligence Officers in her time to know that they had a cheeky habit of hiding or playing off injuries as less serious. She was still very new on board and didn’t want to miss something and leave the impression she was lousy at her job.

Lt. Janvier, CMO

At a glance, Faye and Dawson didn’t look like they had sustained any injuries, but Janvier was correct that that didn’t mean all that much most of the time. Calloway in particular was increasingly failing at hiding clear distress.

The scan showed the Orion had several lacerations and contusions. Notable was the contusion around his right eye that made it difficult to open. In fact there was a hairline fracture of the ethmoid bone (the bone to the side of the eye that formed that part of the orbital opening). He also had two partially fractured ribs, plus a hairline fracture of his femur. The newer contusions were likely from the fall that Ducante also suffered, but other injuries (including the eye facial and femur fracture) were clearly older. There was a Starfleet issue medical wrap on his ribs.

As internal bleeding caused by the rib fractures continued, alarms beeped at Togge’s heart rate increased beyond normal for an Orion. He had ben unconscious but suddenly blinked his eyes open. Confusion swept across his face and he swung his arm in an attempt to keep people away. “No, no more,” he growled, his gaze unfocused. He could only see out of one eye and barely at that.

~Mischief Maker

Also, going in and out of conciousness, Ducante woke up momentarily to see the Orion fighting against the medical team. “It’s alright, they are here to help you, you can trust them.” I tell him, and then, I pass out again.
Lt. Ducante, Chief of Security
