Pre-Sim - Boarding Physical - James Rowe

OOC: Welcome aboard! I’m reposting this since last time it happened to be in the midst of a transition.LTJG James Rowe paused just inside the entrance to the Athena’s sickbay, giving his eyes a moment to adjust to the sterile brightness of the medical ward. Starfleet ships tended to design their medical spaces the same way: clean lines, controlled lighting, quiet efficiency. It was the kind of environment built to reassure people that problems could be solved here, and to provide a sense of familiarity regardless of which medical suite you ultimately found yourself in.
He took a few measured steps inside as his eyes surveyed the room, old habits and such, the faint hum of diagnostic equipment and biobeds filling the space between conversations among the medical staff. A glance around confirmed what he expected. A few crew members were already being seen, others waiting their turn for the same set of mandatory intake procedures that came with any new assignment.
Rowe shifted his weight slightly as he walked, more out of habit than discomfort. Long travel and too little rest had a way of reminding him of his body’s limitations, even if he preferred not to acknowledge them in public. Most people never noticed the subtle adjustment in his stride unless they were specifically looking for it.
He checked in at the intake station and gave his name and assignment with the same quiet efficiency he applied to most formalities.
“Rowe, James. Boarding physical.”
“I’ve put you in junior Lieutenant,” The intake nurse of the shift, a large fella who looked like he was a professional strongman over a nurse, said typing a few things down, obviously sending the notification to whatever doctor would be taking Rowe’s physical. “If you just want to wait over there and your doctor will be there to see you shortly.
The statement carried no urgency. Just another step in the process of joining a new ship.
While waiting to be called forward, he took in the layout of the Athena’s Sickbay. Every medical department developed its own rhythm over time. Equipment placement, staff movement, how quickly patients were moved from intake to scanning. These things told him more about the department than any official briefing ever would.
For the moment, though, he simply waited. Hands loosely folded behind his back, posture relaxed but attentive, watching the quiet choreography of medical work unfold around him.

Although it was clear only one or two of the beds in sickbay were long term patients, Sickbay was busy. Like Rowe a few new staff members had come aboard, while others had come for their required check-ups or routine physicals. Although it was busy the turnover was steady with the nurses and doctors on shift working through each appointment as they came through.
To a less observant eye it looked like a standard smooth Sickbay operation, but someone attentive to details would notice that there was an almost nervous eager energy to the younger lower ranked staff, like students sitting their first test. The older and clearly more experienced staff seemed unphased but every now and again they’d steal a glance at a young female figure in blue uniform talking to a patient in the middle of the room. The female doctor herself seemed to be absorbed in what she was doing and her focus on her patient or the PADD in her hand.
As Rowe watched she finished up with her patient and dismissing them. She looked down at her PADD reading who her next patient was and her eyes scanned the room before fixing on Rowe and making the way across the room to him.
“Dr Elaine Janvier,” she introduced herself once she was right in front of him, “Junior Lieutenant Rowe I presume?”
