“It seems the immediate area of the explosion was contaminated. The levels are low enough it shouldn’t cause any health issues for those exposed to it and is treatable.” Liam started when the CO addressed him.

The following came through the comms…

=/\= “I’ve detected a ruptured conduit in an adjacent section. Could attract repair teams, though I’m surprised we’ve found nobody yet. And oddly enough, all systems ten metres outside of the explosion are practically untouched. It took us significant time to get down here. Why would there be no repair crews? My first guess is that, given their limited amount of supplies, they have to ration out what is essential to repair. If I’m right, most of the systems effected near us are non-essential. Which tells me, this could easily have been an intentional explosion. Best place to do blow something up would be near unimportant systems.”=/\=

=/\=“I agree,” Faye said softly. “These people are struggling. Everything is hodgepodge, including the systems. But the explosives were highly effective and precise. Not the sort of thing these people would just have laying around. It was very intentional and I would bet you anything they were given to them but someone outside the structure. I’m starting to get a better picture of these people.”=/\=

=/\=“Which also means we could be dealing with someone or someones from outside of this hodgepodge of groupings? That or there is serious division going on with these people.” he noted, curious if the bridge would catch on to his thoughts.=/\=

Orvos spoke up. “That’s good news, especially for our away team, Madison. Is this compound something they have on inventory here? Or did they get this elsewhere?”

Liam’s answer was delay due to his processing the information from the comms. It took him a moment to realize the CO was talking to him causing him to straighten his lips. “Through replication, yes. They would leave a signature of sorts in the compounds though and I don’t recall any. However, that gives me an idea…”

He pulled up the data over the compound and the earlier scans, doing an forensic chemical analysis.

“In explosives manufactured by companies, there’s a chemical signature left that can be traced. If they stole it, we can possibly track it back to the owners. Then we can find more information from there. However, there’s a chance this might turn into a dead end if there isn’t one.”

Orvos stood up, eyes on the chief science officer as he meandered about the bridge. “That could be helpful. Perhaps there are other people looking for these people if it was stolen. Though if Commander Calloway is right, these people may not be entirely capable of stealing from these other vessels. Perhaps they are partnered up with someone who can?” he thought aloud.

The chemical composition at first looked as expected, but the computer identified a 0.01% trace of seratinum, the chemical created when a particular alloy was destroyed. This alloy, though rare, was used by the Ferengi, but it wasn’t clear what part of the device had contained this alloy.

He continued moving about the bridge, listening to the various things going on as he awaited more from his Chief Science Officer. It was different for him in recent years, being at the center of it all. His ability to lead had been pulling through, despite his desire to steer clear of the command chair. Janna had helped him come to terms with it. She was, in all honesty, a true blessing to him.

After several moments of digesting the information, Liam broke his silence. “There is a 0.01% trace of seratinum. It’s a chemical produced when a particular alloy is destroyed. It’s rare, but used by the Ferengi. I can’t determine the what part of the device it was in, unfortunately.”

He switched over to locate the reports of the missing ships and seeing if he could pull up a cargo manifest. If it didn’t show up, it added evidence to a third party involved. If it did, it might’ve been possible to narrow down the components and figure out the part used. It was a slim chance, but worth the time to check.

The manifests showed what they had learned before that the cargo ships had been carrying food, medical supplies and other basic necessities. When one of the ship went missing, a new request for the supplies was filed. There were no metals or other substances as a part of the supply orders.

The following came in via comms…

=/\=He’s close by,” she said softly. She didn’t whisper, since that created harsh sibilants that were easier to hear than a quiet low tone. “Timing is everything. We need to get him, and get the shuttle. But the shuttle will draw attention. If the others haven’t found Ducante yet, we might disrupt their efforts. In that case, We might need to split up, you take Morgan back to the Athena with the auto-transporter beacons I brought and I can either retrieve the shuttle or wipe and kill the computer.”

Dawson: “That’s exceptionally risky. Your mission was to get Morgan to the ship. Let’s get him there. I can go the extra effort to take care of the shuttle.=/\=

Orvos heard what was said and made a different suggestion. Speaking to the duo, he said through the comm link, “We have Callahan in charge down there providing for distraction. Why don’t we use that to our advantage? Have them get the shuttle?”
