Ela looked up at Janna, noting the drawn, almost stricken look on her face. A look that almost matched her own. She nodded, but there wasn’t much she could offer besides that. It wasn’t like the Counselor could do much for her obvious friend. Ela would have felt just as helpless in her shoes. After all, that was her friend on the table too. But this was her battlefield. This, she could do something about.

Fishing out her tricorder, she shifted it into high resolution scanning. The model floating over Serena updated, with fresh information. “Right hemisphere. Posterior, superior, lateral to the occipital lobe.” She pursed her lips. Not ideal — but better than the prefrontal cortex.

She chewed her lip, green eyes lifting to Doctor Grey. “What about vascular regeneration?” A glance at the rising intracranial pressure made her stomach knot. Drilling was crude and barbaric, but it was a stopgap for sure until they had time to do the repair.

Reaching up she scrubbed her face with one hand, then moved back to the cart and grabbed a laser shaver. “Sorry in advance for the haircut,” she muttered, fingers moving with practiced speed. “You better live to be mad about it.”

Charlie remained on standby, ready to jump in if needed.

Ben turned around, ready for surgery “Normally, that’d be enough, but with limited time to repair, we have to go medieval. I’m going to make a small hole here” He indicated on the hologram “to relieve the pressure. Then we can do vascular regeneration once we know how it goes, I want to repair that spleen damage first and drain any excess internal fluid buildup first.” He prepared the laser scalpel and started the incision to peel back skin.

OOC: Don’t know if we´re still going on, I’m hopping in where I can to catch up.

Ela nodded, then shifted back to give Doc Grey room, taking the opportunity to start doing something about the uniform in the way, then moved to scrub up as well. It became a ritual she’d done a hundred times, ever since heading down the Medical branch via the Academy. It was both a perk and a problem, living with the crew you were working on You got to know many of them, especially those most at risk, doing the most dangerous work. Working on a friend was a pitfall of the profession. But so too was it an incentive to always do your best work, besides moral and ethical concerns. Ela wasn’t much for religion… yet she always found herself praying, in some way, in these situations.

Turning back, she joined the medical team working to save the XO, and her friend from the Valkyrie. “Okay, I’m in,” she murmured.

Lt., j.g. Dain, Doctor

((I’m up for going for as long as is … realistic or desired. I’m good on this for however long.))

OOC: Bump for Hjortur. You all can continue this. If you need GM involvement, let me know. Faye and Dawson will be along soon to prep for their mission. ~Linds

OOC: I just need whoever it is that bounces off my actions for the surgery, unless of course it’s preferable that I just roleplay the surgery directly - Hjortur

OOC: Between you and Sam, you can progress the surgery. I’m just on the sidelines for this part. Sam decides ultimately how the surgery goes, but I suspect she won’t want her character to die, lol. ~Mischief Maker

((Well, pretty much all the damage is mechanical - meaning done by physical material or forces. It’s mostly priorities of work. There’s no chemical or biological agents at work. She survived the initial blast and first few minutes, and is getting first-rate medical care within The Golden Hour. She’d likely survive even by modern medical standards, but this is Trek. I expect she’ll make a full recovery without too much issue. Even with maybe one or two organs ruptured and a TBI. - I imagine blood loss will slow her down, and will take some time to rebuild neuro-muscular signal strength (meaning she’ll be a bit weak and slow for a bit, need to be on light duty, might be a bit dizzy or tired. Might have some residual headaches and stuff, but those will fade on their own or with more follow-ups.

The most concerning is the TBI and brain bleed(s), but again, very fixable. Though if we wanted… could turn her into a cyborg.. :D ))

Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer

OOC: Copy, I’ll just write the actions taken during the surgery then and you can adjust and respond with the aftermath :) - Hjortur

Benjamin hadn’t actually ever cut the skull of a person before. He knew the theory well enough; he’d had plenty of training with holograms, but holodeck training exercises were never enough. Relieving pressure this way was practically barbaric, but his education had been extensive, and he’d spent much of his time preparing for lack of resources or time. He’d learned long ago that medicine out here had to be flexible. He whistled with the music as he worked; his hands were calm and steady.

After relieving the oedema he moved to work on the spleen damage. A Splenecthomy was simple, but he still made an incision so they could remove fluids and repair the damage directly.

It was at this point, that the doors to sickbay swooshed open to reveal Dawson. He was carrying two packs of supplies as he entered. Clearly the doctor was quite busy. He stepped inside momentarily to observe who was on the table undergoing emergency surgery.

-Dawson, Intel

Faye stepped in a couple moments later, dressed in black ops gear. She surveyed the goings on and her stomach clenched for a moment knowing it was her friend on the table. She couldn’t ask. She didn’t want to know. It might seem heartless but she had to be focused. She couldn’t go on this mission worrying about everyone else. that’s how you got yourself, or someone else, killed.

“Don’t mind us. Keep doing what you need to. Dawson and I are just having subdermal comms implanted. I can it for us. Done it before and we have not time to wait.” If someone in medical was free, geat, but she wasn’t going to pull anyone away from surgery for their needs.

She gestured to Dawson with her head and stepped over to a biobed. From one of her other pockets, she pulled out two very tiny subdermal comm units and tiny ear pieces. They were not regular Fleet issue. These were S.I. grade and by the looks of them, quite a newer model. “I’ve coded them to a particular frequency that shouldn’t experience interference. I’ve also set up a code word system. For the time being, we’ll use the ear pieces and thus the bridge can talk to us without giving us away. But should that be an issue, we can change the inputs and output locations with a single word.”

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Benjamin didn’t glance up from his surgery, the slight hazy privacy force field only making him and his surgical bed hazy “Use the smaller laser scalpel for the incision, show a nurse where you want it and have them work you Calloway” his voice gently chiding “And don’t make a mess” He had a light tone but anyone who’d known him could hear the slight strain as he was placing the Commanders spleen in a container and repairing tissue damage “And do a twice over with the dermal regenerator, it’ll help make sure that the surgery if detected looks older when observed visually.”

CMO

“Roger that,” Faye said and waved a nurse over as she hopped up onto the biobed. She was all for letting people do their job so long as she could go do hers. She rolled up her right sleeve and pressed a couple fingers above the wrist, just to the side of the veins that ran through to the hand. She tapped to the fleshy area on the side and rested her forearm on a tray table. “Here. The comm is small and placement doesn’t matter so much, but it’s easier if it’s flat.”

“Okay,” the nurse said as she grabbed the laser scalpel. The incision took no time at all to create and the nurse picked up a pair of small forceps and gently grabbed the comm device. “Setting the comm. Let me know if that placement is good.”

Faye had her left hand against her side and was digging a fingernail into her palm, though it wasn’t too obvious, or so she hoped. Was this triggering? Less so than she thought, and more than she had wanted. But it was almost over. “Looks good,” she said, before shifting her gaze away.

The nurse ran the dermal regenerator over the are twice, as Grey had suggested.

“Thanks,” Faye said, sliding off the biobed and rolling down her sleeve. “Your turn,” she said to Dawson, though she didn’t meet his gaze. She knew he’d already pick up more than she’d prefer, but it was what it was. She might explain later, or she might not. She didn’t know just yet.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Dawson eyed the interaction between the nurse and Faye. The chief seemed stressed, though given their orders, that was to be expected for anyone. But the idea had come from Faye herself. He took a mental note of the elevation and her avoiding eye contact.

That was certainly a thing for Dawson. Meeting their gaze gave him insight into the person he peered inside of. The eyes were like windows to the mind or soul. Most people generally didn’t hold sustained eye contact. It was intimidating to most. He always found it fascinating when someone held his own, daring to be an equal to him. He both relished and welcomed it.

He hopped onto the biobed, intentionally keeping his eyes off of Faye for the moment as he met the gaze of the nurse. “Same thing for me, I suppose,” he said with a small smile and an offered arm.

-Dawson, Intel

The nurse gave him a smile. “Alright, this will just take a moment.” Using the laser scalpel, she created a small incision and gently placed the device with the forceps. Then she sealed back up his skin and went over the area a second time. “Okay, all good,” she said.

~Mischief Maker

“Ready?” Faye asked Dawson.

“Thanks for your help folks. Take care of Stone, yeah?” Faye said, heading for the exit.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Ben was in the middle of shoving the Executive Officer’s spleen back into her body “I got her, good fortunes” He said not looking from what he was doing. He carefully repaired any damage caused by his surgery. With the spleen damage repaired he began repairing any lacerations.
