Months. It should have taken weeks, but the Athena had the additional UHPAVS software that was hypothetically supposed to do what Faye’s system did, except that Faye’s system was far more robust and especially designed for the sort of sneaky semi-sentient virus or program that had wrecked havoc on a few ships in the Delta Quadrant. Thus her efforts to take what she had designed for the USS Manhattan and make it work on not only an entirely different class of starship, but also play with other software the Manhattan hadn’t had.

She had greatly underestimated how complicated this endeavour would become. Some might have given up in frustration, said it couldn’t be done, but Faye was determined for one very particularly reason: the USS Athena seemed to get itself into an impressive amount of trouble, and if there was one Starfleet vessel that had a better chance than others of coming into contact with the virus she had dubbed Kracken., it was the ship she now called home. This she was not only motivated by a sense of justice and a need to use her own skills, but also by a sense of sheer preservation.

Today was the day they were finally bringing everything online. Calloway had been unusually cautious in making the move from simulation to live trial. She had the initial processes activated, but the actual program come online in a few steps which allowed them all to adjust to any unexpected variances.

Sitting in her large office on Deck 10 that doubled as their Intelligence hub, Faye had two members of her team monitoring key areas in the secondary systems. For the primary systems, she was coordinating with the Bridge and other departments.

It was time to start. Taking a deep breath, she lifted a fresh cup of coffee to her lips and allowed the hot liquid to steady her. Faye had nearly succumbed to insomnia last night, so worried she was that something would go wrong. But Dag had calmed her down as he often did and eventually she had slept hard through the night.

=/\=Calloway to Engineering. Phase One ready to go. Going to connect us to the bridge and we’ll adjust everything as we go. Hope you ready to be done rewiring and recoding, because I certainly am,=/\= she said with a laugh.

=/\= Engineering here. We have a few final diagnostics to run here; and before you connect to the bridge, do one final check on the phase relay inhibitors from your end. =/\=

=/\=On it.=/\= Faye’s fingers flew over her console and she quickly ran the query. She didn’t bother filling the channel with banter, instead focusing intently on her work. At least the CE was one of those people who intimately understood how her brain worked and knew how to roll with things. It’s what made them such a great team.

=/\=The earlier adjustments are more than adequately compensating for the increased load. Relays are good.=/\=

=/\= Then get on it, slick. I know you are wound tighter than a Ferengi in a clothes store waiting for this to come online. =/\= the CE said with an audible smile.

“Alright folks, look alive, here we go,” she said, rolling her shoulders. =/\=Calloway to the Bridge. Engineering is on the comm with me. We’re ready to bring Phase One of the new system online on your mark. It won’t look like much has happened on your end, but if all goes well we’ll proceed to Phase Two.=/\=
