The doors to the main science lab parted with a quiet hiss, and Tyler stepped inside. The hum of consoles and the low murmur of voices filled the air, several officers already bent over their stations.

He adjusted the strap of the data satchel over his shoulder, letting his gaze drift around the room. Rows of sleek equipment gleamed under the lights, and the faint scent of sterilized metal clung to the air.

Instead of announcing himself immediately, he wandered a few steps in, running a hand thoughtfully along the edge of a workstation. His eyes swept across the lab, not in a hurry, but watchful — taking in who was present, looking for anyone who carried the kind of presence that marked them as the one in charge.

For now, though, he kept quiet, content to observe while he waited to be noticed.

Liam pointed out a DNA sequence on the screen before he pulled upright. His eyes spotted the unfamiliar face among his staff causing him to pause. Did he miss the memo about a new arrival? His hand reached for his data pad as he brought up his schedule and found Wells name. The man was scheduled today it seemed.

He set the device down then walked up to the science. “I must’ve gotten my dates mixed up. Lieutenant Tyler Wells?”
