Orvos had led her throughout the corridors to his quarters on deck 3. The doors swished open to reveal a remarkably well kept area. Being captain had it’s perks as his quarters had been divided up into three areas. The first area was his living and work room. There were two couches with end tables connecting the pair together in a right angle. The desk and computer were opposite the couches providing some ample room between comfort and work. There was a larger table at the feet of both couches. And near the table was a small compartment, much like a small refrigerator of sorts. The sleeping area held a large king size bed with the unique feature of a three person hottub nearby. And then there was a storage area where Orvos kept a decent slew of his old personal affects.

He ushered Janna inside and gestured to the couch. “You can take a seat if you wish. I can fetch our dessert.” he said with a sly grin as he turned to small fridge/freezer near his desk.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

“Sounds good,” she said, moving over to one of the couches and sat, crossing her legs at the knee as she sat at the side in the ‘corner’. The shift in position allowed a fair amount of bare leg to show, but then again, there were only so many ways to sit in a slim dress such as hers.

Janna took in her surroundings. She had been here before, but by happenstances, perhaps, they had spent the most time at her place, and frankly, they had been preoccupied and she hadn’t been overly focused on the quarters themselves. She did notice one thing though. “Not a fan of personal decor?” she said with a teasing smile. Yes, the slight change in the standard furniture said something about him, but those were practical features. There was nothing here that spoke about Orvos the person. Janna fully understood why, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t tease him a little.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos had been rummaging in the cold storage while she spoke. He replied as he brought out to small cartons of different types of ice cream. “Can’t say I know too many people who would be interested in it. Just me in here most times. And, well…I know all the stories.” He pointed to his head with a smirk.

She chuckled. “That’s not the only reason to have decor.”

“So,” he continued. “It would seem you get to discover another of my vices. A closely guarded secret if you will.” He moved to the couch and set down a small pint size container of ice cream. “I have an absolute weakness for most ice cream.”

Janna grinned. “I’m not sure I would have guessed that, actually.”

He took a seat next to Janna and offered her a spoon. “That freezer there is stock full of different flavors. We can split this one here. Dark Chocolate Truffle. Or if you prefer your own, I can get you one.” He popped the lid off of the pint container and offered her a chance at the first bite.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Taking the spoon, her green eyes were alight. “Oh, I’m happy to share with you, so long as you are.” With a delicate motion, Janna pulled the spoon along the top of the ice cream, causing a small section to curl. She put the spoon in her mouth and let her lips pull off just a small layer of the decadent ice cream, exaggerating that action by making it incredibly slow.

Orvos observed her, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips.

“Rich, decadent, deep. It’s very good,” she said. “I too enjoy ice cream, though I daresay your love of it probably is probably more than mine.”

It was at this point that he took his own curled spoonful and savored the taste. After a moment though, he gave a chuckle at her comment. “I’m not convinced. You really seemed to enjoy that first bite.” He smirked.

“Enjoyment doesn’t equal love,” she said with a gleam in her eye, but her emotions were currently not surface. It wasn’t so much that she was hiding them, but for the moment keeping everything rather intentionally and carefully controlled.

“That could depend on your definition of love. Though I’ll concede your point there.” He replied with a bit of a teasing tone.

‘What’s your favourite flavour?” Janna asked before taking another exaggerated taste as she gazed at him.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos watched her make another exaggerated taste of the ice cream. He was finding it hard to tell if she genuinely enjoyed it that much or if she was playing on more physical sights.

Upon asking the question, he took another spoonful and answered. “Well, that’s quite the question. I can’t say I have a particular favorite. But I’m not your typical chocolate or vanilla, plain jane. I like genuine flavors. As in plural. With an ‘s’. The mixing and mashing of distinct flavors really makes a particular ice cream stand out. For instance, chocolate and peanut butter are stellar! But add in some varied textures of those flavors, and you’ve got a masterpiece. As for any one flavor, if it has chocolate, I’ll always give it a go. The darker the better, I say! What about you?”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Janna twirled her spoon in her fingers. “Oh, there is something lovely about a really high quality vanilla bean ice cream, but see, where you like your things mixed in as a feature, I love the variety of a sundae with whatever toppings I fancy that day. Roasted, salted nuts, a rich fudge sauce, a decadent caramel, maybe some crushed pineapple and toasted coconut if I’m in a tropical mood. Some see vanilla as boring, but it’s deeply complex and morphs into other things with the right combo.” And with taht declaration, she pulled her spoon over the ice cream again, popped the spoon in her mouth, and savoured the swirl she just created.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos took another bite. “Sure, it can certainly morph. But it needs to be combined with something in order to do so. And im just not a fan of one flavor. Much like people, I enjoy. I’ve yet to me a person who wasn’t complex.” He said as he considered his own words thoughtfully.

“This is true, but we are also not islands to ourselves. What we reveal about ourselves depends on those around us.” She enjoyed these little philosophical debates with him.

He then morphed the topic. “Any ideas of what you may want to in order to get a better understanding or grip of these newfound…abilities…of yours?” He asked curiously.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Janna focused on another bite of ice cream as she pondered the complicated question. “I think before I can hope to have control over them, I have to explore their current limits. Otherwise I’ll always be surprised, even if we assume a regular progression, which we can’t even be sure about.” Janna sighed and then smirked. “I have to try to intentionally use them. I think Ben might be helpful in that case, at least for helping monitor shifts and changes.”

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos nodded thoughtfully as he savored a bite. “That makes sense to me. I would assume you’d want to do this in a private and controlled environment. What do you feel most comfortable with darling?” he asked, the nickname for her coming almost naturally. He hadn’t noticed the odd change. It was different, but felt good to say it, even if it was subconscious.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Janna, however, did notice, but her only outward reaction was the tiny smirk that tugged at her mouth. “The best option would be in my quarters or on the holodeck where I could choose the setting. I’m sure Ben wouldn’t need much more than a tricorder and the cortical monitor I’m already wearing most of the time, but I should ask him. And you’re the most obvious person to test these abilities with, of course, but only if you’re open to it.” They had already been scanned while in contact, this was just more of the same.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos nodded with a light chuckle. “That makes sense. Anything for you. And now that you mention it, how did your check in with the good doctor go? No mentions of…loss of data…in the monitor?” he lightly teased.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Janna laughed. “I was up front that there would be gaps and he wasn’t concerned. But…” Janna took another bite of ice cream and set it to the side, gazing rather intently at the man she was in love with. “My brain is.. changing. Not just in a practical sense, but as in there is a physical change in my brain that suggests that it’s creating a new area of connections.” She smirked. “Looks like the Nexus actually changed me. ” She let a breath. “My neural connections are increasing at a rate of two hundred percent and…” Janna shook her head slightly, mystified but also feeling like somehow it was al meant to be. “I’m showing signs of new neurotransmitters being produced… El Aurian neurotransmitters.”

~Janna Kingston, CNS

His eyes perked up in a slightly concerned tone when she mentioned that the Nexus changed her. He listened to her intently, keeping his thoughts mostly in check. He grew mildly concerned that her new neural pathways were increasing so rapidly. And then it hit him. El Aurian neurotransmitters. She wasn’t El Aurian, so why was that happening? Was that evidence of the connection between his people and the Nexus? Was it fluke? Was it due to his own presence and connection to the Nexus? Did he do this to her? She had so much already to deal with. Had he caused her to change this way?

Then again, was it a bad thing? Really? She would have to adjust for sure. And if she was developing similar cognitive abilities as himself, it would certainly effect their relationship. If they continued on as they were, and he trained her in the use of her new mental capabilities…he already knew their bond would grow deeper. He had committed so much to her. He wasn’t about to shy away from himself being even more exposed to her. Though, if he was being honest, she already saw quite a bit of him exposed to her and she hadn’t complained one iota.

His concern was strong, though in a blink managed to quell to an acceptance and curiosity about it all.

“Well…that’s a lot. You’re going to definitely need an El Aurian then to assist in some of these new…capabilities.” He grinned softly, eyes set on her. “We’ve already been experiencing some of it I believe. And we’re likely to go even deeper together. Is that something you’re ok with?” he asked, wanting to be sure.

Janna’s eyes crinkled at the corners as she smiled. “I think I’m more than okay wit it. Don’t think we have a better expert around, after all. We don’t actually know what change point I’m headed to, so keep that in mind.”

Rollin moved with his usual flourish—robes whispering against polished decking, gold trim catching starlight through the occasional viewport. His steps had a practiced grace, somewhere between a procession and a performance, though he’d never admit to either. To Rollin, walking was just… another kind of dance.

The door to the captain’s quarters loomed ahead, nondescript to most, though Rollin had always believed doors held energy—thresholds between story and stillness. He regarded it with a quiet curiosity, head tilted, fingers laced lightly behind his back.

No hesitation. But no assumption, either.

He paused a respectful distance from the entrance, straightened the line of his sleeves, and touched the panel beside the door with the pad of one elegant finger.

Orvos could sense the unfamiliar presence at his doorstep. He wasn’t necessarily concerned, though it had been interestingly timed. He looked to Janna, curious if she sensed it too. He intentionally conveyed via their newfound connection that he was likely going to let whoever it was in. He was the captain after all, and some times that duty to the crew never truly paused.

Chime.

While it was unfamiliar to him, for Janna, she had already recently gotten a feeling for Rollin’s energy, and thus suspected it was him. “Relax. I promise you this will be interesting,” Janna said.

The note of it rang soft and clear.

Rollin did not fidget or pace. He simply stood—present, patient, expectant—like a gift waiting to be unwrapped.

After all, he wasn’t there to intrude.

He was there to be invited.

-Rollin
Just Rollin. That’s quite enough, Darling.

He eyed Janna for a moment before slowly turning his gaze to the door. “Come in,” he replied as the doors unlocked.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Janna radiated calm energy, not at all fussed that she was sitting with Orvos on the couch, dessert bowls present. It was clearly not a work interaction and since they were now willing to be public with their relationship, it didn’t bother her that he saw this in a more intimate moment.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

The doors parted.

Rollin entered fluid, composed, precisely attuned to the moment. His robes did not billow this time, but they moved—a low, luxurious sway like calm waves meeting polished stone.

He paused just within the threshold, and took in the scene with a discerning eye.

The couch. The bowls. The shared space.
Ah. That kind of evening.

His lips curved into something warm, a smile softened by understanding and entirely free of assumption. His gaze moved from Janna—serene, radiant in her ease—to the captain, whose presence struck him as more open than Rollin expected, though no less enigmatic.

“Well,” he said lightly, hands clasped before him, “this certainly isn’t the ready room.”

He dipped his head in a small, graceful bow. Not performative, not mocking—polite. Intimate. A gesture offered to those who live with one foot outside time.

“Captain. Counselor. Forgive the intrusion—I would never dream of interrupting a dessert course unless I had reason.”

He stepped forward one careful pace and raised a brow with gentle curiosity.

“Rollin. Just Rollin. You’ve likely heard of me. Or at least felt me float through the corridors by now.”

He chuckled, low and bright. Then his eyes turned to Orvos, calm but intent.

“I came hoping to formally introduce myself, Captain—and because I happened to read your file.”

His gaze flicked to Janna, playful but not coy.

“And now I see your taste in company is even better than your Starfleet record suggests.”

He gestured toward the couch with a wry smile.

“Would you like me to come back another time, or may I offer my greetings while the chocolate is still cooling?”

-Rollin
Just Rollin. That’s quite enough, Darling.

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he regarded the Deltan before him. “It may not be the ready room, as you say—but this will do nicely. Please, take a seat, Rollin.” He gestured toward a nearby chair, the invitation smooth and unhurried. “Ice cream? Or perhaps a drink?”

Orvos was at ease. His connection with Janna had deepened alongside their relationship, and for now, calm was the prevailing energy in the room. That same calm seemed to radiate outward as he waited for their guest to settle in.

Once Rollin was comfortable, Orvos let the faintest glint of curiosity touch his eyes. “So… you’ve read my file?” He slid his spoon across the top of his dessert, savoring the bite before adding, “I’m curious—what did you think?”
