Rising to her feet… foot, Ghubari planted her crutches firmly under her arms and watched as the large man dragged himself to his feet and hurled himself in Julien and Ghubari’s direction. It took no effort at all for Koraia to swing out one of her crutches and catch it on his ankle. The Nausicaan went falling forward and landed on the table, crushing it towards the ground.
The brawl of course had drawn a lot of attention from the other patrons and now also the staff. A large burly man came over and looked at Koraia and King. “Alright, you’ve got two minutes before security will be summoned and they’ll be here pretty quick. You better go,” he said with a subtle gesture of his head.
Julien didn’t seem to notice the bartender at all, his focus was fully on the Nausican.
Ghubari nodded gratefully to the man and reached out to Julien’s arm. She understood, even tipsy that he was doing them a favour, probably because they knew Julien, but also maybe because they hadn’t been trying to cause trouble. “Com’on, let’s go. You promised t’ get me home safely.”
~Commander Koraia
It took a few seconds for Ghubari’s words and touch to reach him through the red haze of battle lust that had descended over him. Back on the colony, only two months ago, this reaction had saved his life and maybe his mind so many times that he wasn’t able to control it now.
It said a lot about how he respected her that she did reach him. He looked at her hesitantly, and always back at the Nausican lying on the shreds of the table.
“But, what if he gets up and makes more trouble for the others?” he managed to get out.
- Julien King
“S’curity. They can handle it, and I’d like to maintain some dign’ty as we go. Don’t make me drag you out of here,” Koraia said in her best Command tone, regardless of the fact that it was a laughable proposition. She wasn’t dragging anyone anywhere!
Adjusting her crutches, Ghubari moved swiftly for the door with or without him, ignoring the patrons watching them
~Commander Koraia
He couldn’t and didn’t want to let her go alone, didn’t want them to part this way. He quickly looked to the bartender, pointing at the Nausican who was in the process of getting up.
“I’m Lt. Cmdr. Julien King. This Nausican just attacked two injured Starfleet Officers on medical leave without reason. I will file a report, have him arrested if you want to keep your good reputation so close to Starfleet facilities.” he said in his own command voice, which showed immediate affect.
Ghubari looked over her shoulder and partly rolled her eyes, though she did smirk. It was unnecessary for him to do that, since security would be on their way anyway. She was certain that if the details were looked at carefully enough, there would be some eyebrow raising about why two Starfleet commanders had managed to actually get in to a fight. But her brain was too drunk to care about repercussions that may or may not come at some future point.
Then he laid his hand on the Nausican’s shoulder, who was halfway up and pressed him down again. It looked like a slow motion, almost gentle, and maybe everyone watching wondered why the Nausican didn’t seem to resist at all but just slumped back down, whincing.
“You stay down and wait for security to arrive, no more trouble from you!” he said. Then he turned around and limped off with long steps. He caught up with Ghubari just at the door that he held open for her. Once they were outside he relaxed an breathed in the fresh air deeply. It was dark, but the street was well lit. A warm summer evening with a clear sky and stars above. HIs mind was once again his own and he was in control.
So many of the doors she encountered lately were motion-activated so it was rare she had to struggle against a manual door. Luckily Julien saved her that particular indignity. She was also a bit relieved he did decide to leave with her.
“Thank you.” he simply said. “I’m sorry you had to… feel that. It will be some time until I can look at a face ridge and not get angry.”
- Julien King
Out in the crisp air, she inhaled deeply and nodded. “I get it, I do. And s’okay. I only feld’it ‘cause you got me drunk. At my request,” she said with a grin. There were no hard feelings or worries between them. “And ‘sides, I got forehead ridges and you do alright wi’ me.”
He chuckled. “Yours are beautiful, not at all like a Klingon or Nausican face ridge!” he added. Something he also might not have said to a fellow female officer under normal circumstances. Due to his darn half-android metabolism and genetic tinkering, it was very hard for him to get drunk. He had tried hard, and had achieved a certain tipsyness, but he was - sadly - not as intoxicated as Ghubari.
Looking around, her amusement grew and Ghubari started laughing. “Oh Ancestors! I’ve never actually been thrown outta bar before!” This was a ridiculously funny thing, especially for an officer like her who was considered upstanding and not prone to that sort of behaviour. It somehow entirely made her day right there and it showed on her face and in her pale amber eyes.
~Commander Koraia
Her laugh was contagious and he got a feeling that she did that way too rarely, so he had to join in.
“Me neither! Well, who would have thought that we actually managed to get something off the bucket list. Patricia once told me that a bar brawl is part of unwritten academy program and she used to wind me up that I never had one.” he said laughing and remembered too late that Ghubari could feel his emotions. He was positive she had felt what he had felt when he had talked about Patricia. He knew it was a way too strong emotion… oh how well he knew.
He gave her a look and the left half of his face actually blushed a bit. “All platonic and very much one way.” he added silently and pulled out his badge of his pocket.
He touched it with a peep. =^= King to Cecilia. Sweat heart, just got thrown out of the Root Bar with a pal of mine. Would you be a dear and transport us to the courtyard of the medical compount, the rehab facility =^=
=^= Julien! Seems you are not as ill as you led me to believe. That means you can come by tomorrow evening as well. Shall we say 8 pm?! Initiating site-to-site now, Cecilia out. =^=
Ghubari would notice that there was no surge of emotion from Julien as he was talking to Cecilia. He just smiled and nodded, not surprised at her vehemence at all.
Then the blue swirls appeared and they were beamed back, materialising in front of the building where their temporary beds were.
