Janna laughed. “Perfect,” she said as she took at seat with Karina and ordered a latte for herself.

The warmth of the summer’s day made her smile and for a moment Kingston just closed her eyes and absorbed it. “Reminds me of summers back home on Alpha Eridani. There’s a reason they named the city Heliopolis.”

“I like coming here to work sometimes. Several of the medical crew frequent this.” She let them both relax in silence and enjoy the warmth. It felt good on her muscles. She wasn’t going to get a hot soak, so this was the next best thing.

After several minutes, she set her cup on the table and played with the handle as she spoke. “So what can I do for you. Just a check up to see to it all the boxes are marked since the incident?” She had had the initial check up like everyone else. But she hadn’t been pulled for a psych eval so had never sat down one on one since her initial intake before all hell broke loose.

Kingston sipped on her milky drink for a moment and held it in her hands as she gazed at Karina, her vivid green eyes pondering the woman before her. “Partly, yes. I had… someone express some concern about you, that you had thrown yourself suddenly very hard into your work. It’s not unusual after something really big happens, but I wanted to see for myself how you were doing.”

Karina had expected a lot of things, but that hadn’t been one of them. The shock was plain and clear on her face before it was swiftly concealed and she smiled. Her head tilted slightly as if trying to think of what motivation someone would have for saying something. “So, because I am ‘doing my job’, someone is concerned? I was here a total of 24 hours when the world went sideways and we were tossed into life pods. So I’m not really sure what folks would have for comparison.” She seemed rather put out, bordering on upset. But other than a slight waver to her voice, there was no other clue.

“I work, and I relax. I am not sure how that is a bad thing.” She started to lift her cup but realized it was empty and put it back down again.
