He held her amber eyes without blinking, but with a smirk, and quickly ran the name of the substance through his medical knowledge data chip.
“Ibogo an herbal plant growing naturally in Tanzania, used for healing and pain relief as well as a hallucinogenic compound.” he recited and his grin widened.
“You got some?” he asked. “I like rabbit holes”

“It’s bark I use to make an infusion you drink. It comes mostly from de west of the continent, but I use it as part of my meditation practices on occasion. It helps with the overload I sometimes get being an empath.” The amusement was etched into every feature, especially as she realized her words were starting to become less and less enunciated.

So she was emphatic. He had vaguely remembered something about Napeans, but hadn’t been sure. That explained a lot though, and he liked it. Also she looked a lot younger and even more beautiful when she let go of the commander-seriousness and smiled without restraint.

“I do ‘ave some, but not a good idea when drinking. Bad tings happen, you know,” Ghubari said waggling a finger at him. She peered at her glass, which looked far less full than before. Oh well. Last one, she told herself.

He pulled his lower lip forward like a pouting child.

“Maybe another time,” Ghubari said with a shrug.

“You know, I ‘ave no idea how I’m gettin’ home. I ‘ope you had a good plan fer that because I ‘ain’t walkin’. Perhaps not much at all,” she said with a barked laugh.

He grinned at her. “Not to worry, I have a plan. Her name is Cecile and she’s the transporter chief of the main compound. She’s Orion… I really have a thing for Orion girls… them and their pheromones I guess… and that green skin everywhere… aaanyways, she ows me at least four site-to-site transports.” he said and winked, taking a deep sip. “Where would you like to be transported to? The night is young” he said and smiled widely, the dimple popping up on his left cheek.

“The night may be young, but I’m not sure I’m in any condition to do much more. Maybe dis Cecile can just get me close to m’bed. You know, because dancin’ is clearly outta question,” she said spreading her arms wide to demonstrate a ballroom hold. Which had the effect of knocking her glass off the table and at some rather large and unhappy looking patron, where it dumped the remaining half of her drink on his feet before rolling along the floor.

Ghubari just looked at the empty space where her glass was, only slightly registering the pain in her hand from hitting the heavy glass with the back of her hand. “Oh,” she said sheepishly.
