Orvos grinned and bowed. “Very well, good sir! Should we have any other questions, we will be in touch.” He waited to see if the man had a counter response.

He elected simply to end the transmission.

When the transmission was cut, he then turned to his crew in a more serious tone. “They very clearly had to know something given they’re the only ones here. Have we detected anything warranting attention? Thoughts on all of it? Speak up!”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Hammor turned and said “Well, the whole place is a conglomeration of old- sometimes really old- ships and such. I didn’t find any registries or sign of our missing ships but I did get a match to a stolen shuttle out of Outpost 42. That might give us just cause to investigate further. Oh, and one ship in there still has flight capabilities and can detach. It is located… here.” He put up his preliminary map of the facility on the main screen with the shuttle, the detachable ship, and the command center marked.

Hammor, CE

Faye turned in her seat. “I have something, or rather the beginning of something,” she announced. “Three of the five ships attacked were Starfleet vessels, and all the crews were killed. But the two civilian ships were owned by their captain, and their crews are missing. Further, it seems there was a Starfleet Intelligence operative onboard the Dawn Treader. In what capacity, I don’t know, but that’s my next investigative thread.”

~Faye Calloway, CIO

-GM

Orvos looked to the main viewer and observed the schematics his CE had highlighted. “A shuttle from Outpost 42. How old is it? Any chance we can get any reports on a missing shuttle from there? At the very least, I agree Mr. Hammor. Definitely a reason to investigate further. What do we know about that ship that’s docked?”

Orvos turned to Faye. “The Dawn Treader? I assume that’s a civilian vessel? In any case, it seems they have it out for Starfleet at the minimum. What were the ship classes of each vessel? I want to know just how seriously the Athena could put itself at risk by poking around too much.”

“They were all cargo ships, Captain. But that’s on the records. Doesn’t mean there weren’t modifications or things hidden.” If Intelligence was involved in some way, she didn’t want to make assumptions.

Orvos began pacing in thought. “We’re faced with an option or two I believe. We know they’re hiding things, we have reason to investigate pubicly. Do we also risk an away team on a stealth mission? In the event of getting caught, it may put us in a bad situation. However, I do see the benefit in the risk. Get in, figure out what they’re hiding, adjust mission as needed. Please, be frank. Share your thoughts and concerns.” His pacing stopped and he faced the bridge crew upon his final sentence.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Hammor looked at the layout for a minute and then said “Facility like this, this remote… they’re going to know one another; be familiar with who is supposed to be there. If we decide to do an Away Team operation, Captain, I would strongly advise against just beaming in somewhere. The away team would have to arrive- maybe in a shuttle of their own or something- not just suddenly be there.”

Hammor, CE

Faye had thoughts to add but they couldn’t be qualified until she had more information. So she delved into any records she could find on Silas Morgan, or their alias Caden Falls.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

Serena retook her seat, listening to the rest of the crew, but staring a hole into the viewscreen. The redhead chewed the inside of her bottom lip. “I’m no Betazoid, but I read animosity and paranoia from this person. Maybe he’s concerned about the shuttle,” she murmured to Orvos. “– but in the grand scheme, who cares? There’s something else going on here.”

Something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. Looking down she noted the possibility of an Orion being more welcome in this place than most. She sent a simple acknowledgement back. “The thing is, they might not even be involved in what we’re looking for.” She looked up to the El-Aurian. “But the orders are to investigate. That means turning over all the rocks, looking in all the cracks and crevices.”

“This whole thing has the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Like some of the first response calls I’ve had that went bad. Maybe I’m just projecting though.” IN truth after a long career in the security branch, she’d learned to trust her gut instincts. Sending an away team was probably necessary on principle but it might we be sending them into a snake pit. And in all likelihood, she’d be the one crawling in first.

Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer

Liam quietly weighed his thoughts. He let the conversation between his peers and seniors buzz in the back of his brain as he considered facts. Key pieces of facts were missing causing the CSO to remain silent. Anything might explain the scans, from being illegally taking the ship remains to being the culprits. Too many theories swam around his mind that let him chasing his tail. He closed his eyes and broke the rambling thoughts with a breath.

“I second that feeling. Something doesn’t feel right, but doesn’t add up logically either.” Liam agreed with XO, breaking his silence. He straightened up his posture and continued. “The away team could pose as scavengers who are looking to sell some salvage, like a shuttle or something. Based on the scans, I don’t think they would pass up new tech for their collection.”

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

Orvos listened, carefully taking in what everyone had shared thus far. “It seems we have a solid reason to investigate with this stolen shuttlecraft from Outpost 42. If things go the way we want, Commander Stone, you’ll lead the away team. Now, let’s get them back on the line, main viewer.” He could feel the uneasiness coming from the various bridge members. He needed to be confident in order to quell that feeling.

Orvos moved to the center of the bridge, facing the viewscreen with a practiced grin as he waited for them to respond.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

The man they had just been speaking to reappeared on the viewscreen. He was faced away for a moment, addressing a member of his crew. And then he turned and spoke to Orvos with clearly feigned pleasantness. “Well. Long time no see Captain. What brings you to my humble abode this time?” His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

-GM

Orvos feigned pleasantness in kind. “Well, it would seem you are currently holding stolen property. A shuttle you are currently holding was stolen from Outpost 42. Unfortunately for you, this is cause for us to investigate the shuttle and the premises for the suspect. Your compliance in this matter would be much appreciated. Do we have it?”

-Captain Orvos Leven, CO

“I would appreciate if you would define exactly which of our shuttles you believe to have originated at Outpost 42.” Nothing in his demeanor suggested he wouldn’t let them board, but he definitely wanted to know more. “We did buy shuttles from several different people, so it is possible we were sold stolen property.”

-GM

Orvos nodded to Hammor to send the pertinent info while he continued to speak. “Exact coordinates should be coming through momentarily. Given the situation, I’m sure you can understand that we will need to personally inspect and investigate it? If you believe you were sold it, it would also benefit us to find out who exactly sold it to you.” It come across as a question, but he was not, in his mind, asking for permission.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

“First you would have to identify which one you’re talking about.” The stranger responded, much as though he didn’t care what Orvos said or did. Someone, likely an aide of some sort, entered view and whispered to him before eyeing the Starfleet officers like they were devils stray from hell. The stranger Orvos had been conversing with said “We received the coordinates of the shuttle you want to see. You’ll get some coordinates from us. That’s where you’ll transport in. You’ll be taken to your supposedly stolen shuttle from there.”

-GM

Orvos merely grinned as he analyzed the situation. He allowed his El Aurian empathic senses to give him some sort of confirmation on his mind’s conclusion. So far, these people screamed It was us. He hoped his El Aurian senses might provide extra clues, though he wasn’t sure given the distance. He glanced over to his first officer to confirm the coordinates before turning quickly back to the screen.

“Thank you very much for your patience in this. Um, to be fair, I don’t recall getting a name. Who might I be speaking to and who will be meeting our representatives on your…lovely…station?”

“You may call me Kezrick. You will meet my second in command, Azriah.”

Orvos knew that this conversation was coming to a close soon. He only hoped that his crew was ready to assemble an away team and get to the bottom of this mystery.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Hammor wasn’t keen on beaming into a place blind, so he began to scan the area around the coordinates they had been given.

Hammor, CE

Janna was still off t the side, taking everything in. Yes, her abilities were still morphing, but she was getting a better sense of division between herself and others. She focused on the man, seeing what might come up from her growing empathy.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

All scans showed they were beaming into an area that was structurally sound, and environmentally stable.

-GM

OOC: Did Janna end up sensing anything by chance?

IC: Orvos nodded. “Very good Kezrick! Though we have been having issue with our transporters. We can send in a shuttle with a crew to meet you. I’m sure you’re sensors are working fine. When they are en route you can direct them to the desired landing area. Athena out.”

Hammor chuckled. “Oh sure. Always make excuses at Engineering’s expense… like we couldn’t fix a transporter.”

Orvos had heard Hammor’s comment but maintained his composure while the communique was ongoing. Once terminated, he gave a slight chuckle said aloud, “Never miss an opportunity to play on the prejudices of those you’re investigating.”

When the communications were terminated, Orvos pivoted to face the bridge crew. “Let’s get a team down there to investigate. Commander Stone, Commander Hammor, I want you both on the away team. Go ahead and select your team. Let’s get to the bottom of this, shall we?”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

“Aye, Captain.” Hammor said. He looked at Stone. “I’ll go grab a kit and meet you in the shuttlebay.” He turned the Engineering station over to NE Fitzroy and then headed to the turbolift.

Hammor, CE

The XO nodded to Hammor. “Good. We’ll see you there,” she murmured as she filed in behind him.

Orvos allowed his crew to work, observing each of them as they moved, noting differences in states of mind, cadence, demeanor. He was effectively “listening” to his crew.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Janna rose from her unobtrusive place and came to stand before Legen. “Captain, I’d like to be on the away team. I believe this is a situation that would benefit from ym unique skills.”

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos paused, eyeing her for a moment as his mind opened to her. He hesitated for a brief moment. Realizing that this was part of the job though, he agreed. “I think you’re right. Ms. Kingston will join the away team as well.” He called out the second half to his XO and CE.

Be careful… were the two solitary words Orvos echoed to Janna through their mental connection. It was a lot packed into such small words. And that was all that was needed.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Serena stopped as Orvos called out, but then nodded, a small smile tugging at her lips for a moment.

Janna nodded, her green eyes conveying a great deal, though she sent back, Always. It was second nature for her to be cautious, though in a crisis she had been known to forget that little tidbit. But this situation screamed Proceed with Caution, so it was easy for her to heed his warning.

She joined the others in the turbolift.

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Serena scooted to to the side to allow Janna in with her. Security types and Intel types didn’t always get along, but already she was coming to rely on Janna’s capabilities and instincts. It was good to have her on hand for the op. “You start feeling squirrely, you let me know,” she murmured to her friend and subordinate. “That goes for everybody. Trust your gut. Let’s make sure we all get back.”

Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer

(OOC: Resolving thread split.)

As people vacated the bridge, Faye watched Daggum leave, all but willing everything to go well. Then she surveyed the bridge and realized something rather interesting: she was the next highest ranking officer after the captain. Huh. Well then.

“Captain, I’m going to keep doing my investigation over here, but let me know if you need anything,” Calloway said.

Meanwhile, she looked back to the computer to see if there were any results for her search query on the Intelligence operative Silas Morgan, or their alias Caden Falls.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

-GM

Orvos looked over his readouts as he spoke. “Let me know when you have some important details, Commander. Tactical, let’s get an analysis of their capabilities. I don’t want any surprises. Mr. Madison, let’s get analysis of the region. Any special things of note in the area? Engineering, let’s make sure everything is running smooth. No surprises.”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

“Yes, sir.” Liam responded as he began to run some scans over the region for anything outside the normal or notable.
