Ben frowned “I better not hear such nonsense next time you get an injury, that mentality can make it easier for you to excuse minor injuries which can lead to ignoring major injuries so that if you are ever parted with LB it’ll take years to get used to non-instantaneous healing” Ben didn’t look at the Science chief as he fussed over his arm making certain that he wasn’t truly injured before finally letting go and stepping back. “Anyway, please get on the bed.”

“I can’t argue with the logic, but it’s harder to see a time when that happens. There will likely be side effects even with the full removal.” Liam commented as he let the doc finish up. After his arm was freed, the man moved to the bed. He hopped on backwards and laid down for the routine examination. It was a repetitive routine he appreciated since it was predictable.

Benjamin nodded, he was well aware of having side effects from the results of being forced to live with something unusual in your system, at least his genetic abnormalities were a result of genetic experimentation and not an alien symbiote. He produced a tricorder from his coat flipping it open in a practiced manoeuvre and grabbing the scanning wand. “You ever run simulations. What potential side effects could there be?” He asked out of genuine curiosity.

“Once or twice. One possible side effect is immunodeficiency. The creature has been suppressing and replacing my immune system to thrive in my body for some time now.” Liam recalled the Counselor’s concern over him running tests without Grey’s presence. This made confessing more difficult than he wanted to admit. Deciding to push through the sensation weighing in his chest, he continued. “I do have a confession to make. During my freed time, I’ve been testing my limits and abilities on my own. There’s been a few interesting findings.”

Ben stopped waving his wand for a moment and just stared at the older man with a raised eyebrow “I see” He resumed the waving, his tone was overly neutral “And what, pray tell, did you learn?” he asked in the same neutral tone.

Liam was bit grateful that the doctor didn’t ask for details. He inhaled and relayed the list he had discovered, though he was sure there was still more. “It seems my body is rather efficient with its use of oxygen. I don’t suffer from smoke inhalation or from carbon monoxide. I’m considering performing the tests again with a second pair of eyes. I’m suspecting, my body is changing to survive on a intensely hot world without equipment.”

Benjamin frowned, his hand hesitating slightly in it’s wand-waving journey “Well that might be concerning, depending on how drastic those changes are, if you’re being adjusted only for survival or for preference.” He brightened for a moment “On one hand if you do fully transition to that we could design a cool environmental suit, you could look very Breen” He half joked and read the results of the scan.

“That is a question only time will tell.” Liam stated, glancing at the doctor finishing up. “My main worry is that those suits look uncomfortable. They will make working in the labs difficult, especially with delicate things.”

Curiosity gnawed at Liam, but he held it in check. The doctor would tell him about anything concerning and share any new findings. “More drastic changes will cause complications if we can ever remove LB. I’m not sure if it is possible to reverse such changes. So, for my sanity, I hope it’s only for survival.”

Old developments
-Body is using oxygen more efficiently
-Palms still radiate heat (though need to have him activate that)
-Bones are starting to become slightly more dense

New developments
A thin coating on his skin has formed. A sample will be required to discover more information about. Once done, it appears to be a new type of bacteria similar to what is found on a Pompeii worm. It has properties that resist heat, fire, and radiation. So far, it seems to be secreted from his pores and doesn’t dry out. It has a slight stickiness to it.

Ben raised an eyebrow reading the scans, he moved to the side and brought up a few tools, including a small Dermal sampler which he used to grab a small sample of Liam’s skin “You’ve started producing some sort of thin coating around your skin” He placed the sample on the reader and allowed the computer to run an analysis. “Come look at this” He said moving the screen so Liam could see. “Seems like you’re producing your own new kind of bacteria with protective elements against high temps and radiation” He pointed at certain markers “That’s actually kind of impressive”

Liam finished rolling down his sleeve before he hopped off the table. Without wasting time, he moved in behind the doctor and drank in the information. He considered the discovery in his head as he commented. “That’s better than growing scales or some thing else for protection. We’ll need to collect some samples and test them against other ranges of temperatures. I have a theory that it doesn’t do nearly as well with cold extremes.”

Ben smiled “See sample testing is much more fun than shoving your head in a furnace to see if you burn up” He said cheerfully “But yeah let’s get a few samples, see what we’re working with.” He scratched his head “I do wonder if UV lights would affect you the same way, do you think you can still tan?” He asked out of genuine curiosity.

Liam’s eyes shifted to Doctor Grey. “To be honest, the thought never crossed my mind.”

For a moment, it seemed he was serious until his lips cracked into a small, brief smile. His attention returned to the subjection. “However, I have been set on fire before and walked out not burnt to a crisp. It seems I have the bacteria to thank for that.”

He then added as he held out his hand for skin samples to be taken. “The symbiote feeds off radiation. UV rays are a type of radiation so it’s possible I won’t.”

Benjamin ignored the on-fire comment for the moment as he took a sample from Liam’s hand “How’s that for an experiment, we toss you on a beach at Risa for a few weeks and see what happens, could also do some liver tests at the same time”

IC: Liam sighed at the suggested treatment. His lips pressed together into a thin frown as his arm retracted back to his side. He looked over at the doctor before he countered the suggestion. “Sounds like an experiment other department heads would jump at, but not me. I’ve got too much work to do and delaying it would only pile up the work. Might as well put me underneath a UV ray light for a few hours. Same effect.”
