Ben stood on a dark blue diving board looking down at a slight drop of twenty feet into a blue pool. It was a simulation of the Starfleet Academy pools in San Fransisco, Earth, where he’d spent much of his limited free time nearly a decade ago when he was a cadet, he’d always had fond memories of the swimming facilities there so whenever he could he went to the Holodeck to visit. He stood there for a moment in his standard issue Starfleet swimming trunks and looked down before going in a diving stance and leaping down, hands first. A moment later he broke the water and immediately started swimming across the bottom, gaining decent distance underwater before coming up, practised movement brought him to the other end of the pool in no time at all. He used his hand to hoist himself up and sat, legs still in the chilly pool then started wiping his face free of water and sighed contentedly

Benjamin Grey

Marishka knew she had arrived at the wrong holiday, but what to do? Stepping in she realized where she was, but luckily Ben was still beneath the water and wouldn’t have noticed her yet. Quickly she gathered appropriate clothing and went to the proper end of the pool.

  • Marishka

Ben finished wiping off the water on his face sitting at the other end of the pool and looked up, he was startled at the sight of someone green at the other end “Miss Marishka?” He said in a questioning tone. The main reason he enjoyed the pool was that the artificial chemicals helped dull his overly sensitive sense of smell so having someone enter the same room as he became a possibility. He wiped his hair back a look of confused amusement on his face. “Welcome, I guess.”

“My apologies, I guess. You’re certainly not Ted. I got the wrong holodeck. I was supposed to be teaching a cooking class. Yeah, quick change from a chef outfit I guess.”

Marishka made a mental note to chastise her favorite bar back. He was absolutely terrible at times and places but damn the man could cook. So, here she was in a holodeck with someone that she interacted with quite frequently but didn’t really know that well. What to do?

  • Marishka

Benjamin gave the lounge host a bemused smile “Well I haven’t been mistaken for a Ted before” He cocked his head “Do you swim?” He paused and frowned at his own question “That’s a silly question, or is it?” His frown deepened “I guess it’s more of a do you enjoy swimming with a hint of can you swim without the rudeness” He scratched his head “Or I guess I could just add the rudeness in my train of thought out loud” He laughed at himself “Apologies, I believe I’ve grown a bit unaccustomed to small-talk”

Marishka nodded and smiled. As she walked the length of the pool, the robe she had so recently replicated slowly slipped from her shoulders, down her sides, and puddled at her feet. Stepping out of it she left it behind and stepped onto the diving board in her barely visible swimsuit. It covered what it needed to cover and merely looked like glistening scales a few shades lighter than her deeply bronzed skin.

“I have a feeling I prefer the water much hotter than the one in this pool, but let’s find out.”

She stood on her toes and gracefully turned until her back faced the pool. Launching into a double back flip with a half twist. The graceful motions were somehow sensual.

  • Marishka

Benjamin didn’t exactly ogle but his eyes did widen at the… display. He did manage to keep his mouth from hanging open for more than a few seconds of dumbfounded surprise. He did his best not to shift from his seat at the pool edge as he watched the dive. As soon as she hit the water he let go of a breath he’d been holding from the moment the robe fell.

Once she emerged he gave her applause “Quite good” He’d managed to regain his composure and his usual friendly and polite smile was back on his face “Talent or training?” He asked out of genuine curiosity.

Benjamin Grey

Several long graceful strokes had her at the edge of the pool near Ben. She shook her head to clear the water from her long lashes and ears while smiling at him.

“Training, lots of training. That was standard fare for my house no matter who was in ascension at the time. My father was very regimented as most Klingons are. My mother was regimented in her own way if you could ever consider an Orion female regimented that is.”

  • Marishka

Ben chuckled “An interesting childhood for certain” He leaned back placing his hands on the ground behind him and looking up through the clear ceiling showing the cloudy San Franciscan day outside “There was a lake a little walk from where I grew up, damned cold but a great place to learn to swim” He reminisced “Used to walk up there every weekend after chores with my cousins and some of the other kids from the other farms”

Ben Grey

Marishka had walked into this holodeck literally by accident and she wasn’t really looking to seduce Ben this afternoon. She rolled to float on her back and stretched in the middle of the pool. Looking up into the cloudy sky she’s smiled and closed her eyes half in reminiscence, half in daydream.

“The cold is beautiful to look at but, I simply can’t abide it. My metabolism, or something about being Klingon and Orion, I’m simply not built for it. That’s about the only thing I’m not built for so I’ve been told.”

  • Marishka

Bens smiled at that “Opposite for me, never been much for warmth. Spent my childhood either in the mountains or visiting my cousin on a near-Arctic island. Always preferred wearing layers and hiking.” He shook some water out of his hair and stood up, walking across the pool to the board “Tell me, do you have a preferred program, something that reminds of home or something similar?” he asked as he stood on the diving board

Ben Grey

With a few long strokes, Marishka was closer to the diving board still on her back. She looked up at the lovely sky and turned her head to look at Ben.

“Oh no, this is your program. I feel like I interrupted you when I was merely looking for somebody else. However there are several programs I do enjoy. Aquatic and otherwise, when was the last time you were sparring?”

  • Marishka

Ben chuckled at that “Sparring? Beyond passing my fitness I don’t spar much” He said before diving into the pool with practiced grace. A little while later he surfaced a dozen meters from the diving end “I used to box in the Academy, but haven’t really kept up any skill besides using the occasional punching bag” He said once he surfaced again

Ben Grey

Marishka turned so she lay on her side in the water. Long graceful strokes kept her basically in the same place but with a good visual on Ben.

“Well, if you ever would like to learn a few creative punching techniques I’ll bet I’m much more exciting than any old punching bag you can replicate. I have studied many cultures in my years out there in the galaxy and Earth cultures are very interesting to me. Some of the cultures in colder climates on your planet are very warlike and fascinating to me despite where they may live on the planet. Vikings, very interesting yes very interesting indeed.”

  • Marishka

Benjamin snorted “I spent much of my youth in the Nordics with my cousins. I’ve always found the most interesting thing about Vikings to be their original nature as farmers with a deep culture surrounding law, that and their proclivity for cleanliness.” He said with a smile “But your offer does sound interesting, I never decline learning something new” He lowered his head in the water for a moment then wiped his eyes and pulled his hair back “I should warn you though that I possess no talent for combat, there’s a reason I never boxed after the Academy” He said with a grin

Marishka lazily swam to the side of the pool and pulled herself up onto it. She hadn’t realized she would be engaging in a sparing match when she entered that particular holiday that day.

“Something simple, for beginners I mean. I think I can conjure something up. Hadn’t really thought about it to tell you the truth. Ted and I were going to go over recipes and he was going to show me how to cook something from earth, don’t actually remember the name of it. All right, let’s see what I can figure out. The thing that I enjoyed the most about Vikings was their seafaring culture to tell you the truth. That’s not very popular with Klingons or Orion’s.”

  • Marishka

Ben cocked his head “I spent much of my youth with Icelanders and Swedes, there was this one Holo-program designed to show how to navigate and sail on a ship based on the scant historical records and what historians and archaeologists have been able to piece together. I think I still have a copy somewhere, I’ll see if I can find it for you if yer interested.”

Doctor Grey
CMO

Marishka smiled, showing just a hint of teeth.

“I think I’d like that quite a bit. I find that I can take the cold in small doses so if there’s something that sparks my interest it has to be absolutely spectacular. What are those lights called? You know, the ones in the northern regions of Earth? I can never remember their name.”

  • Marishka

“Aurora Borealis, Aurora Australis for the southern hemisphere. Solar winds that cause a disturbance in the magnetosphere, named for some old gods I was told once by one of mankind’s greatest minds” Benjamin said as he looked at the sky above, clear blue sky “I’ve only seen them a handful of times, most spectacular was during a weekend trip to northern Norway, Sat outside in the cold for hours just looking up, sneaking some liquorice snaps we were certain our parents wouldn’t miss” He chuckled at the memory

Ben Grey

Using broad lazy strokes Marishka swam closer to Ben and smiled again.

“Oh, I know what they are but I didn’t remember what they were called on your world. We have many similar things in worlds I’m familiar with. One of my favorites is on a hot little world I like to go quite often. Pictures the same thing but with a erupting volcano in the middle of the whole situation. Sky was green and you have these beautiful streaks of lightning coloring the sky. The volcanoes erupting and it’s just a beautiful glorious sight. Would you like me to show you?”

  • Marishka

Benjamin cocked his head curiously “I think so, wasn’t planetside the last time they had an Eruption never seen a volcano except in holovids.”

Ben Grey

Marishka swam to the diving board and hauled herself on top. Soon, she was sitting atop it like it was some type of makeshift throne.

“All right, now for a change of scenery. Computer, run program stellar lights Marishka 713.”

The computer complied and in a flash of light they were in a completely different scene. Soft sand stretched for miles in shades of Gold silver and pale green. In the distance a looming mountain could be seen. The sky was in Twilight colors of blues and greens.

Benjamin shook his head and felt the water fly, the sudden change from a temperature-controlled building to outdoors put a slight shiver in him, he wasn’t really cold but the sudden change was well… sudden

“We’ve got about 5 minutes until the fun starts. It’s going to happen over there. We’re about a quarter of a mile away. It’s the best view I’ve had so far. You really don’t want to get too close. Come join me.”

He looked at where Marishka stood for a moment before joining her, a bemused expression on his face.

They were sitting atop a small outcropping of rock and sand. Marishka had changed the scene but not her clothing. She was still in almost nothing and seemed completely comfortable in the lovely warm temperature and evening air.

  • Marishka

=^=Computer, create towel=^= He said with a smile then promptly grabbed the newly formed cloth and rubbed his head thoroughly, once his hair was no longer dripping on his shoulder he placed the towel down next to him and took in the scenery properly. “Never seen sand like that” He said with an outstretched finger “Volcanic eruption not withstanding this place is worth the visit just for the view”

Ben Grey

Loud roaring sounds could be heard in the distance and the Twilight grew a bit deeper. Plumes of smoke could be seen rising in the distance, and the light show looked like it was about to begin.

“Yep, here it comes. This volcano erupts every few thousand years and I was just lucky enough to be here when it did. This particular light show is about an every 5-year event. I’ve never claimed to be a scientist, just a very lucky woman.”

Greens, blues, purples and reds could be seen dancing across the sky as the volcano began erupting. It was truly a beautiful sight cascading from above and exploding from below.

Marishka spoke a few words in Klingon and a proper picnic setting appeared complete with lush blanket and basket of food.

“Join me for a snack? I don’t remember what is in this particular basket but I’m certain there are things that will both enjoy.”

She sat down on the blanket and began rummaging around a bit.

  • Marishka

Benjamin stood up and stretched, he’d never bothered to study Klingon although he could read a few words within a medical context but his vocabulary was limited to hypospray, pressure, scalpel, non-hostile, and shut up which were all terms he found useful in any language under stressful situations.

He sat down next to the strange barkeep? Hostess? He wasn’t sure as she seemed to have some other function but that wasn’t his business “Thank you” He said looking from her to the basket to the eruption “It really is quite something.”

Ben Grey

Marishka brought out a sealed container of clear liquid and two glasses. She poured one and handed it to Benjamin.

“Don’t worry, it’s non-alcoholic but feel free to scan it if you like. It’s just some sparkly tasty water. Now, please make certain that your hands and feet are on the blanket. Up up and away.”

As Marishka spoke she touched the right corner of the blanket and it began to gently lift from the ground. She had always had a fascination with Earth’s mid Eastern culture and their stories of flying carpets. Why the hell couldn’t she have one here?

“The scene before you is absolutely real and one I witnessed. This is just my little nod to fantasy, and getting a better view.”
