After Marishka left the meeting with Faye and Dawson she returned to the relative sanctuary of her office in the Parthenon. Brushing through the door she headed straight for the false wall. Before she got there however, the tightly wound scroll on the corner of her desk caught her eye. Glancing down her frown deepened when she saw the ribbon around it was black and there was no seal on the scroll. Picking it up she stepped behind the false wall. Emerging a few minutes later her demeanor had changed drastically. It was time to take action, things had to be drawn together and lives needed to be changed before more lives than necessary were altered beyond that which even she could repair.“Computer, set my communications to do not disturb mode until further notice and my door also. Set my lighting to Twilight mode.”
She waited until the computer obeyed before taking a small gem in the shape of a triangular lozenge from a drawer in her desk and casually tossing it at the wall. A hood spread beneath the gem creating a pool of Shadow beneath it. Marishka knew soon, Khabal would be there. Sighing she sat down in the newly appointed couch and waited. Sometimes redecorating was a good thing.
- Marishka
The shadow under the gem spread unnaturally to form a door sized oval of blackness on the wall. A few moments later Khabal stepped out of the shadow and it rapidly retreated.
“You have called, I have come. How can I be of assistance?” Khabal asked.
- Khabal
Marishka and smiled. Secretly she wished she could do that or at least have that effect somehow. Perhaps she could negotiate to keep that handy little gem and figure out how to use it on herself. Probably not, but it would be worth a try.
“You certainly have, and I thank you. I have two contracts to discuss with you. Let us start with the one that would be more public facing I suppose. Tell me how it’s done. I’ve spent some time with your people but, never had to negotiate a contract such as this.”
- Marishka
“First we have to work out the details of what you want done then, we work out compensation.” Khabal said. His tone was very casual and soothing for someone who likely thought they were being called to carry out an assassination.
- Khabal
Marishka noted how he seemed quite relaxed on the matter. For her part, she was also very relaxed on her newly replicated couch. Relaxation was a good thing in both their lines of work it seemed.
“Very well, I appreciate a person who can get straight to the point. I have two contracts I am interested in. I suppose it would be a good idea to go over them one at a time and conclude one before beginning the other. First there is the contract of transport. There will come a time when I will need you to transport myself and most likely two others to a place where we can’t be found, preferably not on board this ship. Can you do that?”
Marishka knew he could damn well do that, but clarity was very important.
- Marishka
Khabal answered as if it weren’t the first time he had been asked to do this, “I can. We can make a deep space jump in my ship or, if instructions are followed, I can carry up to eight people through the shadow realms into any of the infinite pocket dimensions.”
- Khabal
Marishka nodded, she knew this, but details were very important.
“To my knowledge, at this moment, there will only be three of us. I am not exactly certain of our destination as of yet. The three of us will agree upon it and will definitely only need one place. I don’t want to be bouncing around in anybody’s ship, no offense. We require a demonstration of this in 2 hours please. Now, what would you require in compensation?”
- Marishka
Khabal shrugged.
“The price should reflect the difficulty. As I travel through many areas of space, money is obviously not of use to me, that’s why we use trade and barter as methods of payment. It also comes down to what you’re willing to offer. A simple demonstration will not be a problem.”
- Khabal
Marishka picked up a PaDD that held their current coordinates and scanned it for something that might be close, impressive, and easy. She was a little unsure of what to offer Kabal as compensation because what she was used to offering was something best reserved for more of a personal contract. Something would come to her, it always did.
“For the demonstration perhaps take us to the lovely little pocket inside this nebula. I think my companions and I can understand how well you can perform your service by this demonstration. As for compensation, you and I will have to negotiate that a bit more because there will be several contracts and I don’t want to get ahead of myself with paying you for your services.”
