The lights to the briefing room were on. The curved table that was at the center of the curved room had twelve chairs neatly along the perimeter of the furniture. The holo-projector sat at the center of the table while the wall against the bridge was adorned with a large display screen. A replicator could be seen at the opposite end of the room for basic drinks and such. It was Orvos’s common practice that should anyone desire a drink at any point, that they should immediately help themselves. For the moment, Orvos was compiling in his ready room what information he and Stone had gathered on the bridge.
-Captain Orvos Legen, CO
Hammor walked in directly from the bridge and took a seat at the far end of the table. He wasn’t sure what exactly was going on, but he was a bit excited to be on his first mission as the CE of the Athena.
Benjamin entered the Briefing room exactly at the ten-minute mark “Sir” He said in greeting to the Captain before finding his usual seat at the table. It had been a relatively unremarkable morning so far although he did have a tonsillectomy on the schedule later that afternoon, a minor surgery that had been delayed too often by the patient in question.

Faye slipped in and moved to sit next to Daggum. She leaned in to him and whispered. “Ships being attacked in an asteroid belt. Dead or missing crews.” Sure, he was about to get the full picture, that that was the basic summary and would hopefully help him frame this conversation.

A couple minutes later, Janna stepped in and assessed the mood of the room (much easier now than ever before). She grabbed herself a coffee and and took her seat a couple down from Orvos’ left. Kingston turned her gaze on the Captain knowing he would fill them in when ready.
~Janna Kingston, CNS
Just behind Janna came Stone. Regarding the faces of the Senior Staff she drew up short for a moment then did her best to smile, but it immediately faltered. The heart wasn’t in it, so to speak. Instead, her expression was grim, troubled. Instead she settled on a cordial nod, and took a seat next to the right hand of the head of the table. As they waited for the old man, she settled into popping her fingers, then folded them together, holding tight.
Lt. Cmdr. Stone, Executive Officer
Marishka did in fact enter the room in what past for her version of formal dress attire. She silently set several large trays on the table and bowed addressing the Captain quietly.
“Brought to you today by anonymous request sir. I don’t know if the request was made by anyone in this room. I take my leave.”
There was no listening device in the plentiful trays of food because there was simply no need for one. NE Smith was on the bridge and several people she knew very well were in this very room. Not to mention, her relationship with the Captain was on very good terms at this moment. Nodding, she bowed and prepared to leave.
- Marishka
Lt. Ducante entered the room a few seconds before the ten minutes they were supposed to have been there. He had stopped in a secure area of the ship and sent comms to the rest of the security personnel that he would be in the meeting, if they needed him. This would be his first mission as the Chief of Security of the ship since Lt. Shock’s departure. Once he came in, he also got himself a cup of coffee before sitting in a seat halfway down the table.
Lt. Ducante, CoSIC: Once Liam entered, he followed the counselor to the replicator and ordered a tea for himself. He would likely need it. Taking the hot, steaming cup toward his seat, he sat down and waited for the debriefing to begin.
-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.
OOC: Reinserting Liam’s reply since it seems his post went poof.
-Janice B.OOC: I’m so sorry for the long delay everyone. It was one sickness after another. I’ve burned a lot of sickdays at work due to it and taking care of the rest of the family wasn’t easy. But things are on the mend now and I’m getting back into my groove.
IC: Orvos nodded to Marishka curiously, taking note to be better observant of his senior staff. “Thank you Marishka,” he said to her before she departed.
Turning to the staff, he wasted no time. “Starfleet has discovered five missing ships that had never arrived to their designated ports. These ships were set on autopilot with dead or missing crews. What we do know is that sensor logs on these vessels seem to indicate a cargo vessel dropped out of warp and immediately fired on each vessel. All of these seem to be separate instances. Each ship encountered has a similar story. Once the shields of these ships dropped, sensor arrays were targeted and the ships were boarded. Attacks seemed to last about 10 minutes.”
“What we do know is that each vessel seemed to have been fired on with Breen weaponry. However, readings from inside each ship indicated that the only weapons fired were Federation phasers. And it seems that whoever boarded each vessel were familiar with the designs. No vessel was the same, and not all of them were of Federation charter.”
“We are currently en route to the suspected area of attack which is a remote asteroid belt in the sector closest to us. There’s still one ship missing with no transponder signal. Quite frankly, it seems we may be dealing with pirates or some sort of black market? Though I’m open to thoughts and questions regardless.”
He leaned back, allowing the brief to sit in and give people room to speak their minds.
-Captain Orvos Legen, CO
Benjamin frowned at the description, he had no experience in dealing with pirates in his career but this sounded far harsher than any stories he’d heard before, why kill or steal an entire crew “Is it usual that entire crews go missing or are murdered?” He asked out of a genuine horrified curiosity.
Doctor Grey
CMOFaye lifted her brows. “Yes. Accidents do happen, and this ship is known to disappear now and again, but I wouldn’t count that as normal.” The Athena was rarely anything that fit that description.
“So we have someone who either stole Breen weaponry or bought it from them legit, and then dumped it on a cargo vessel. I am still surprised they snuck up on Federation starships. I’ve worked cargo ships, speed and maneuverability is not their forte. But regardless, the person running the show is experienced and thorough. The smash and dash method is a favourite of the Orion Syndicate, but I hate blaming them for everything even though they tend to earn it.” Faye tensed and then blew out a breath. “And the missing crews bother me. If they weren’t going to be just killed because they were in the way and they wanted no witnesses, then there’s usually only one reason to hijack a crew and that’s to sell them on the slave market.” That she actually managed to say any of this with a modicum of calmness surprised even Faye.
~Faye Calloway, CIO
Marishka had the chance to hear the words Breen and Orion Syndicate before the doors of the ready room closed. Now it was time for her to do her own investigation. Official or not, she would get some answers.
- Marishka
Liam reflected on the information give. He pulled away his mouth from his fingers then spoke. “Five ships. Were they all attacked around the same routes or different ones? If different, how far apart? We might be able to determining a ‘hunting’ ground of sorts.”
His eyes flicked briefly to acknowledge Marishka when he heard the doors open.

“Breen weapons pull a lot of power.” Hammor said. “Far more than phasers or disruptors of the same power level. But putting them on cargo vessel could make sense, actually. Secondary power systems dedicate to the weapons could make them more efficient, and you would still have room for loot.”
Hammor, CE
