Faye sat back and tapped her fingers on the table in the Briefing Room. The logistics of Project Bastion were coming together and Faye felt confident they could start soon. “I’m still worried about the power draw across the lower third of the ship. The Mythology-class is just that bit bigger than the Manhattan, and has a lot more facilities, including a third Sickbay down there. If we have an issue, it will cascade to the middle and affect a crap-ton of stuff, including Security and the Brig. I and the team can code around the issue, but the hardware and software still have to play nice.” It might seem like she was seeing problems everywhere, but Faye was loving that there were others to troubleshoot all this stuff with. On the Manhattan she had been forced to do most of it herself under conditions that were hardly ideal, and distressing.

Shock was sitting diagonally across from Ms Calloway. He listened carefully, nodding in agreement. Energy was not his field of expertise, and was waiting for Mr Hammor to chip in. For some reason, it was comforting (not that Shock would admit to that emotion under his stern poker face) that there was one other non-human in the room.

He glanced at Mr Hammor.

– Lt Shock (COS)

Hammor was reviewing specs and was silent a moment.He then said “Mythology-class may be bigger in area, but the Manhattan has a lot more power generation than we do. Buy the amount of power isn’t the issue. Like you said, it’s keeping the draw steady and not pulling from other systems.” He thought for another long moment and then said “What if we did this: Tertiary module housing on Deck thirty-one is empty. We can use that space to setup dedicated power supply for the project only. Keep it isolated power-wise from all other systems from jump; and we can install the power control terminals next to the Secondary Computer Core. That should alleviate any kind of issue with other systems.”

Faye nodded eagerly. “Yeah, I like that. It means we can restrict access easier because we can specify individuals and handle it a bit differently than we do the rest of the systems.”

As they were talking, Faye’s badge sounded. =/\=Commander Calloway? I’ve got an incoming call for you. High priority, standard restrictions.=/\=

Faye’s brows lifted. “Put it through to the briefing room.”

After an affirmative, the main display in the room shifted and there was a woman taking up most of the screen, with very plain brown hair done up in a loose twist at the back of her head. She was older but her exact age was hard to gauge and for a Human she seemed ‘middle-aged’. Foggy blue eyes held a keen intelligence and a fair bit of amusement. She was dressed casually in a black shirt of some kind underneath a black leather jacket. “Howdy, folks. Long time no see,” she said in a chiper tone that seemed to bely the deep fatigue just hovering underneath her jovial mask.

Faye rose from her chair, intense shock running through her body. So much so that she couldn’t even respond.

Daggum stood up and put a large green hand on his wife’s shoulder. “You of all people should know to call before you call, Commander.” he said with a smile. “Glad to see you. I take it your not-so-better half is somewhere close by if you are calling us?” He turned and looked at Shock. “Calloway’s mother. She has been… gone… for some time.” and he turned and looked back at the screen.
