Faye nodded again. “That can be complicated but also useful. What about in a crisis? Do I call you? Pretend you’re just some random person on the ship? In what ways can I count on you Mr. Dawson?” She wasn’t interested in playing games with people, and certainly not those who were supposed to be on her team.
Dawson nodded understanding. “Yes you can call upon me as you see fit. I’m trained in many forms of combat and can train anyone who wishes to learn something. I’ve spent years studying battle strategy. And I’ve spent even more time learning how to better know the enemy, whoever that may be at the time. In a crisis, you can absolutely call upon me to assist in whatever way you need. Ultimately, I’m at your disposal. You won’t get much grief from me.”
As she was talking, Faye typed out a message to Marishka, requesting her presence in the Intelligence Office. She did this, rather than call her over the comm since discretion was rather the point here.

Marishka had just changed clothes from a heavy workout and shower when she got the text. It wasn’t something she had expected, but why not? I’m meeting with an intelligence officer, what an interesting day this was going to be. A few minutes later she was ringing the chime.
- Marishka
Faye tapped a couple keys on her desk to unlock the door. “Come on in,” she said, swivelling to face the door.
She smiled. “Welcome to my lair, Marishka. ” She gestured to Dawson. “Apparently you two we well acquainted and your name come up for a couple different reason. Since you and I keep struggling to have a private conversation, and Dawson here is allowed to be privy to it, I figured we might as well have a pow wow, if you don’t mind?” Faye looked around and realized she only had the two chairs, so sat up and slid hers towards the moonlighting lounge host and simply slipped up into a clear area of her desk, her legs crossed at the knee.

Marishka walked into the room with the typical confidence she displayed when going into a new situation. To her in any line of work she chose at this moment, every situation seemed to be a social situation. This time, she hadn’t brought a gift though. She exhibited only mild surprise that Dawson was there with one slightly raised eyebrow. She took the chair Faye had offered and slid in comfortably.
“Yes, acquainted would seem to be a general way to describe how Dawson and I know each other. I suppose my name would be brought up in conversations you two might have. So, let’s chat.”
- Marishka
Dawson eyed Marishka for a lingering moment as she took a seat. He then turned to Faye to lead the conversation.
-Dawson
Calloway seemed to be momentarily lost in thought before she focused on Dawson and Marishka in turn. “So, as a Starfleet officer and an Intelligence officer, I’m pretty adverse to anyone trying to harm people on our ships’ manifest. So the first question I have is, is this fake marriage of yours going to give me a headache at any point down the line given that the Captain is involved, and are there any related security threats I should be made aware of? I have no doubt given your background that you’ve made sure that measures were taken, but still, I’d like to know in case this information is important to let others aware of.”

Marishka admired Faye’s blunt to the point manor. She had expected nothing less from this particular officer, but still it was refreshing. She hadn’t known what to expect from this meeting but had come prepared for just about anything. Glancing from Faye to Dawson she settled in and prepared to be as honest as she felt the situation allowed. These were people that she worked with, served whatever they asked for, and in some respects actually cared quite a bit for.
“The status of my marriage, real or not, can only be truly determined by the man who performed it. The particular ceremony is not as you would say legal by federation standards, but that’s a gray area also. Where I to contact Captain Kane to discuss it with him we would have to first find him sober enough to have said discussion. As far as other security matters I have taken every precaution that I can physically think to take. I would not want to see anybody on this ship harmed due to actions that had to be taken at a moment’s notice. I commend your forthrightness in this discussion. Anything else?”
- Marishka
Faye kicked her feet from her perch on the workstation. It was perhaps a strangely childish action in such a setting, but the movement helped her think. “I’m not going to side step anything here. I’m an unusual choice for an Intelligence officer. I’m good at the data stuff. Very good. But my expertise come from a data management side and problem solving, rather than on the spot gathering. All that covert crap is a nightmare for me, and I’ve done it when and where it was necessary but it’s not my skill set. Namely because I suck with people about seventy-five percent of the time. Less on a great day.” Calloway shrugged. “I have what we could think of as a mulitlateral, branching thought process. Even as we’re talking I have about ten different scenarios for how this conversation is going to go, all floating in my brain at once. That is amazingly useful when it comes to analysis and hacking a computer in a crisis, but less so when trying to gather information discreetly. I tend to misinterpret people and I struggle with social cues. When I first came to see you in the Lounge, I had hoped to ask what your status exactly was with Intelligence, so I could know what I might or might not ask of you. But simply put, I need people to do the spying part for me. I need to trust others to be looking and listening for things that I might overlook because I’m not attuned to people.”
Lt. Cmdr. Faye Calloway, Chief Intelligence Officer
Marishka eyed Faye and Dawson again for a few seconds. She too was capable of multilateral thought processes. This situation, indeed several situations, could be solved quite quickly or be drug out as either one of them desired.
“Well, people like me. I prefer to think it’s not just because of the pheromones but I won’t deny their existence, their help, and the fact that I have been known to use them on occasion to great effect. The thing is I’m not on the bridge a lot of the time and that’s all right by me right now. I am everywhere else. So I think we can figure something out.”
